I’d have much, much more respect if she said all this at the Tory Conference! But alas no, she is nothing but a keyboard warrior
Yeah but someone else is footing the ticket for Brighton and Manchester compared to the bus ride to another supermarket. Jack Monroe who doesn’t file their accounts or pay their taxes is good at spending others money while contributing nothing to society in the process.Can get herself to Brighton or Manchester, but not to the supermarket a bit further away
They’re not furious, though, are they, Jack? It’s an abstract concern for them at best, and they’ll go away thinking “this should be addressed” and then they’ll immediately forget because it’s time for the conference disco and we all know that Gove-y has the best moves. Anyone who is furious about wealth disparities and poverty and children going hungry is just… not a Tory? I see what she’s trying to do and I don’t necessarily disagree with getting right wingers on board with a more just welfare state but let’s not big up these fully paid up conference attendees as the real changemakers.
Did she say anything about Sunak or Johnson in her talk? I’ll bet she didn’t, despite the icky promise the week before to “pull their pants down”. All mouth and no trousers (ironic, hey?).
The fact is, Jack is the wrong person to ever achieve change. She’s inauthentic for people who are genuinely poor, or have any amount of critical capacity. She’s too shouty and militant (I mean she’s not, but it’s a key element of the cosplay) for the right. There’s a relatively small section of centrists and champagne socialists she appeals to, who are extremely concerned with appearing clued up on social justice issues despite never having experienced precarity themselves, and frankly they just don’t constitute a large enough proportion of the voting public. Any exposure beyond the odd viral thread and morning TV appearance encourages people to dig into her story, and we all know well how that ends.
I’m genuinely sick of the sight of her and her manky jumpers whenever there’s a fee to be made making a horrible issue somehow more divisive?!
