What’s wrong with a regular diary? A couple of quid in any stationery shop or newsagent. Promoting the “need” for a £17 planner is just irresponsible.
Of course no one needs such an expensive one! There a plenty good cheap ones. I just meant that as soon as one wants a very cutesy one, they tend to be more pricey (at least here in Germany). I personally want a very specific layout/size and something that’s nice to look at and I haven’t found something like that for under 20€

I used to work in university admissions (not oxfords level) and I'd be amazed if they didnt do a little background research, especially if he mentions it somehow in his personal statement/application

If his Youtube channel was a problem for his Oxford application due to a couple of videos working under pressure... what about Vee Kativhu? She has tons of videos writing her essays in less than 4 hours and she got accepted into Harvard!
In my opinion I don't think Jack's videos were a problem for his application.

I think constantly working under pressure in any context raises the question of whether someone takes their work seriously, but i imagine some people work best under such conditions. Nevertheless, it seems he was not willing to consider any other options apart from Oxford.

Harvard and Oxford, two different nations. Plus requirements vary from one university to another in the UK alone depending on each universities internal culture. His videos do not give a good impression of him as a student, I'm not saying that's the only reason but it wont exactly have helped him. Someone clearly after fame and attention isnt necessarily an attractive quality either. Couple that with maybe his application just wasnt good enough it's not exactly a surprise. I also suspect oxford really want a first even though they may say 2.1 can apply. They may consider a 2.1 (assuming that's what he has) if the applicant can bring something else to the table but a 2.1 alone probably wont cut it.

He's not applying to Harvard is he?

Vee may have done those essay crises videos but she also has her empowerment and access videos where she shows clear passion for learning and inclusion and she's applied for a course that links with that. Whereas Jack applied for a course probably in very high demand with no obvious special passion for it.

If anyone was wondering, by no means I'm trying to excuse Jack's behaviour! I also believe that he should have applied to more Unis, not only Oxford just for the sake of it. It's just I don't think that his Youtube channel 'worsened' his application.
How far does Oxford check their students' channels/social media? For example, I've seen Eve Bennett criticising some aspects of Oxford (like online education during lockdown) and as far as I know she has never had problems with Uni due to her comments. I know Jack's case is different (Eve's already enrolled as a student and Jack is not) but I just think that his application wasn't good enough.

I agree. IMO I don't think he's what Oxford is looking for. Not a bad thing! Everyone is different and not everyone is suited to the same universities. But I think when you decide to be a YouTuber you need to be very careful about what you choose to put online. Writing an essay in 4 hours just ain't it.

If I'm not mistaken his Master was something related to screen writing or creative writing? Or at least he has stated in the past that screen writing was something that interested him.

Good on him but had to turn it off after a couple minutes. His reactions seemed to get less and less sincere

Tbf I think he was genuinely shocked to get a first. If he got 72 last year it would’ve been worrying knowing a 67 could bring that down to a 2:1 overall. Congrats to him I say

He didn't reveal the exact percentages, stating that he had to calculate them and all that jazz, which I find odd. I guess he wasn't proud of his low First.
He also mentioned he wrote such a good essay earlier this year that his professor told him to publish it like a research paper, which if he did, I think it might boost his CV for next year's Oxford application. I hope he spends his gap year getting some job or research experience, if not, his application will be dismissed again...

I hate studytube grade reveals. Ruby granger was whining her firsts weren’t high enough in her last one, and none of them ever seem sincere.
“Ooh wow I actually can’t believe I did that” really? When you average a high 2:1/1st all the way through? Absolutely shocked. Would never have expected that.
