I’m in two minds about Jack specifically. Let me preface by saying I find him painfully cringey and have no interest in defending him unfairly. While I do think the average person doesn’t isnt required to perform their ‘anti-racism’ online lest they be called out, an influencer has taken on that job title which most of the time allows them to profit from the easiest and most mundane of things like their favourite cereal. So using that same influence to speak out on social injustice every now and then should be part of the role too. And yes a lot of that is done in ingorance / virtue signalling. Well, that could be improved on too, simple as that.I also think it’s quite sad the way most of the study tubers have said nothing about Floyd/BLM after their initial postings. It feels like everythings gone back to normal now. Obviously they don’t have to post daily but a little acknowledgement
We don’t *need* to know anything about him.Jack's degree results were published on 16 July, and still no word from him on Youtube or Twitter, about what grade he got.......its so suspicious, and I, for one, feel cheated that he is hiding this from us! We didn't need to know about the failed Oxford Masters application, but we do need to know his degree classification, after 3 years of watching him! Anyhow, I'm not watching his channel anymore....useless!
Yes they have the safety net/no detriment policy in placeWe don’t *need* to know anything about him.
Still since he decided to put his whole uni experience online and has talked about grades before it is suspicious ... Did Durham have a safety net like some other unis this term? (where your final grade won’t be lower than the one you had last year).
Thanks!Yes they have the safety net/no detriment policy in place
It’s like everything has to be “problematic” even though he has it way easier than most. It’s not cool to leave an essay till just before the deadline then pull it off at the last minute when there is literally no reason to do so. Some students have it hard, they have to work the be able to afford it, they don’t get stuff handed to them or make money from a 10 minute YouTube video once a week. Jack doesn’t realise how hard the real world is and when there are deadlines leaving it till just before makes you look unorganised and that you don’t give a tit. Quite the opposite of the organised life he puts across with his £17 planneroh that's pretty decent. if he did well enough to be able to apply to oxford for a masters he must have at least a high 2.1. I do wonder if his YouTube channel went against him with oxford. They may not want high profile vlogging revealing stuff or disrupting other students plus Jack's videos seem to make it look cool to leave all your work until the last minute. That may work for YouTube views but doesnt endear you and look like you take studying seriously
I would assume so! I feel like he must have gotten a 2.1 at least, i agree we would have heard if he got a 1st i reckon but...who knows! Thanks!
So what did get last year? I’m guessing a 2.1 and that’s what he got now? Surely a 1 would have gotten a huge story/post/video
17£ is standard I’d say. As soon as you want a “nicer” planner they tend to get quite pricey ...I agree that it’s unusual he hasn’t made a video about his degree results. I think the non-detriment policy basically involves degree classifications being calculated twice, both in the usual way and disregarding assessments completed in the current circumstances, with a student being awarded the higher classification, to ensure that nobody is disadvantaged.
I would be surprised if he re-applies to Oxford. I know someone who has just graduated with a first and the workload is intense, with one essay (or more) per week. Jack portrays himself as someone who leaves his essays until the last minute, which I’m sure is not endearing to Admissions Tutors.
is it just me or does anyone else think that £17 for a planner is expensive? This seems to feed into the commercialisation of ‘productivity’. There is a useful article below about this:

StudyTube and the fetishisation of productivity — Ebb Magazine
During a global pandemic that is exposing the contradictions of global capitalism, StudyTube instead re-frames this as an opportunity to accelerate one’s own productive potential. What’s wrong with a regular diary? A couple of quid in any stationery shop or newsagent. Promoting the “need” for a £17 planner is just irresponsible.17£ is standard I’d say. As soon as you want a “nicer” planner they tend to get quite pricey ...
