When I was their age I really don't think I was as know it all or arrogant as these study tubers and influencers in their early 20s are.

Having been a student and having worked at a university they make me laugh so much. They act like they're the first to ever experience anything when half the time. I really think some of them are in for a shock when they enter the real world.

It reminds me of when a celebrity will publish a guide on pregnancy when they've just had their first child. It's so naïve and self-involved.

I think it must be Student Vlogs - Dylan, don't know what video it was though.

I never really took to Dylan, I don't know why. I guess he gives off 'lad' vibes which generally puts me off. I think I only watched to find out who his dad is (as he had mentioned that his dad was an actor in a video).

Some of the comments on Dylan's video (which was made more than a year ago) are recent because of Jack's video as well, and Dylan has responded to a few. Ironically, Dylan didn't actually say anything that bad, and the letter grades he gave to each influencer were pretty inconsistent. Jack is taking it way too personally.

It does seem to be slightly generational too. I went back to uni as a slightly mature student and it is noticeable how some of the current students arent used to being told no and think they know everything and are entitled to everything. Not all, but definitely a larger percentage than used to be normal

I also think it’s quite sad the way most of the study tubers have said nothing about Floyd/BLM after their initial postings. It feels like everythings gone back to normal now. Obviously they don’t have to post daily but a little acknowledgement

Not all books have to be high literature Jack, you're right.

But not all books have to be written for you either, he was bashing books written for a predominantly teenage audience. Who, at the time, really enjoyed these books looking at reviews!

I don't think this is Jack posting, the person who posted it seems to love maps and play a lot of Cities Skylines which doesn't seem like Jack's thing, plus I've seen his videos on other subs posted by other people.

he cant surely be surprised at job rejections? is he that deluded and out of touch that he doesnt know what's going on around the UK at the moment. Many extremely skilled and educated people are struggling in the job market at the moment. And with him I dont really know what he would be at the front of the queue for job wise. Degree is a but vague and he has no practical work experience (e.g. placement year)

I just caved and watched the personal statement one and in fairness it is actually pretty accurate. Having worked in university admissions most of the advice is right although I think the % aspect is a bit dangerous to get caught up in. Everyone is different and they may not have had the chance to study relevant subjects at a-level (not all colleges offer everything) so that's where personal experience comes in. We would have rather seen passion for the subject from any source rather caring where it comes from. But the basics of what he says are good.

However school and college are not that full on that you wouldnt get spare time, especially if something is your passion. You would often get people say something is their passion but cant back it up in academic or personal experience.

He's not even really "living on his own" in a true sense. He's freeloading a studio in a student accommodation. Not fully judging him for jumping at the opportunity as I'd like a nice free flat in the middle of London too but it's hard to call his situation completely independent. It's the same shit that Jade pulled last year, "announcing" how she's moved to London when actually it was half a step above staying in a hotel.

i honestly don't care that he's travelling right now, europe is allowing travel between countries. the issue i have is that he is (alongside other influencers) openly promoting something to his naive fans that is extremely dangerous and irresponsible given the current state of the world. as someone that is an influencer and has younger people watching him, he should really be careful and aware of what the impact his actions have.

Tbh I've only ever heard this from US academics. Staying at the same institution is not perceived badly in the UK and it's quite common. Sometimes it's the smarter option - if it's a highly regarded for the subject you're interested in, if you've got a great supervisor lined up there, and has a good employment outlook then there's no point switching institutions for the sake of it if you love the one you're at.

Ah my mistake, sorry. IME in Ireland (and I can only speak for my own field which is not the same as Jacks) that stuff does matter once you go beyond your own college. It’s definitely not a massive factor, and wouldn’t drive me away from my own university if I loved it or found the perfect supervisor but something worth considering when applying.

Yep, their legal contract is with the retailer (in this case Jacks business) who has a separate contract with the courier which the customer isn’t part of. He should be careful about saying this stuff because he’s shirking his companies legal responsibility publicly.

oh that's pretty decent. if he did well enough to be able to apply to oxford for a masters he must have at least a high 2.1. I do wonder if his YouTube channel went against him with oxford. They may not want high profile vlogging revealing stuff or disrupting other students plus Jack's videos seem to make it look cool to leave all your work until the last minute. That may work for YouTube views but doesnt endear you and look like you take studying seriously

Hi guys, I've been watching Jack on and off for a few years, mostly just to see what he's up to.

Sorry if this is obvious or has been mentioned before, but does anyone know if he has any plans for a master's? Has he a confirmed place anywhere? Is he reapplying for Oxford? Abandoned the whole idea and now job searching (that's the idea I get from his tweets but I rewatched his Oxford masters rejection video last night and he seemed to say he was going to apply again!)?

In the last life update video he made he basically said he is no rush to apply for a masters and wants to work/travel for a bit.

But I’d be surprised if he hasn’t applied for Oxford again this cycle; it’s so competitive and he always says it’s his dream course so would’ve thought he would try to maximise his chances of getting in. And he wouldn’t start til October so he’d still have time to work for a bit.

Also, a couple of my friends and I received the academic planner (I thought it looked really nice) but mines had pages in the wrong order, pages upside down, my friends had pages missing. We've all reached out about getting a new planner and just getting ignored! Not a good look. Wish I had bought Ruby's instead For how much the planner cost I'm actually a bit gutted.

Ngl I totally recommend making a bullet journal for academic planning if you're still looking for a planner. Cause you make it it's totally customisable to what you need out of your course/term!

The only thought is he is still hoping to go to Oxford so will return to study tube at somepoint. Still a risk business move though, book reviews and study have some crossover so a lot of his current audience would be interested and his current promotion (by that i mean clickbait book vids)are on his main channel and getting traction there. Plenty of channels cover different topics and just creat playboys.

So this may be very ignorant or judgemental but what is his actual long-term plan with his degree/career?

I honestly don't find him that interesting to watch but it's interesting to see these studytubers navigate life outside of academics and see how they use the platforms they've built. He just seems very lost to me
