I’ve read none of this thread,
I know nothing that’s going on,
I don’t care about the public opinion, the popular opinion, the PC opinion, what people say behind closed doors, where they feel safe to be as problematic and judgemental as they wanna be 😐

my only comment, that adds absolutely nothing to this conversation is.....

WHY IS SHE STILL TALKING!!!!
Why is she still talking.
Can’t someone put her phone on charge but forget to plug that shit into the wall?
Why am I constantly seeing this bint making people angry on twitter!!!
Is she doing it for attention or is there a reason she’s banging on YET again and offending the masses, do I care enough to find out 😫
Does it make me a shit person if I don’t actully care because she’s exhausting.

that is all. Told you it adds nothing.
It doesn’t make you a shit person for not caring because she irritates you, no. That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it.

I respect her for saying what a lot of people (especially women) are already too afraid to say, for fear of being attacked both personally and professionally. I feel it’s a bigger issue and if someone of her status is willing to put it out there then good.

She has said plenty of things that I don’t agree with in the past. I don’t agree with all of her stances.

My favourite JK take so far is that she is racist against Irish people because the character Seamus blows up stuff in the film, and this is a reference to an IRA. People genuinely believe this.
Holy fuck, these people wouldn’t have batted an eyelid about that if she hadn’t spoken out.

It’s absurd, and fucking childish. I suspect many of her book fans never really grew up.

Christ, I hadn’t realised all those subreddits had gone. I find this whole thing fucking mind boggling. Are there any other topics in life where anyone not buying into the agenda is silenced? It’s so strange.
Personally I liken it to any criticism of Israeli apartheid being shouted down as anti-Semitism when it is in fact anti-Zionism.

Former Israeli minister Shulamit Aloni said the following when she was asked about the term 'anti-Semitism': "Well, it’s a trick, we always use it. When from Europe somebody is criticising Israel, then we bring up the Holocaust. When in this country [the US] people are criticising Israel, then they are antisemitic."

You can't criticise Israel's treatment of Palestinians without being branded anti-Semitic and you can't speak up on women's rights and protections being eroded without being branded transphobic or a TERF.

Not wishing to derail the thread with this post, just sharing an observation. 😉

New thread name suggestion: J. K. Rowling: She Who Cannot Be Cancelled

It wasn’t that long ago that everything you and many are saying on here was being said about gay and lesbian people. Utterly uneducated and hate filled vitriol.
How dare you call me uneducated. No one ever accused gay and lesbian people of being homophobic and misogynistic. What an utterly ridiculous statement. Why do you think gay and lesbians have removed themselves from being aligned with the trans lobby and stonewall? Because the trans lobby is inherently homophobic as it dictates that people are not gay but born in the wrong body. Seriously, do yourself a favour and listen to actual lesbian and gay people before you accuse people of being hate filled.

Something else has been bugging me lately too - I’d welcome others’ thoughts.

I’ve watched most seasons of Drag Race and laughed along, but there’s something that sits uncomfortably with me. Men taking the ‘glamour’ of being a woman and caricaturing - often incredibly stereotypically. They make serious money off it while all the tough bits of being female are ignored (periods/pregancy etc)...
Yeah I personally could never understand the appeal of this show. Drag in general to me seems a little bit like blackface? It's the oppressor (men/white people) imitating and taking on a caricatured version of the oppressed (women/black people). I don't get how it's so celebrated?

Yes, phew! For a minute there I was worried I wouldn't know what to do 🤣
I find them both twats but have a real disliking for Redmayne. He just plays himself in every film and pouts constantly. If you ever see him with his wife ...well he's ain't humble and has to be centre of pouty central.
I’m happy to say ive never seen any of his films. Just another Eton twat who has had everything handed to him on a plate yet thinks he is gods gift. Now as he played a trans person he thinks he can speak on women’s issues. Twat.

So dignified and eloquent, unlike most of the TRAs on Twitter. You might as well ask a donkey what he's braying about than to get some sense out of the foul mouthed, abusive folk on Twitter

That really is a vile thing to do. JK is praising a childs drawing and this person thinks it's OK to do that? Aggressive posts like that do not help the cause at all.
The thing is Fallon Fox isn’t just some random on the internet who no one knows. This is someone in the public eye by virtue of being a UFC fighter, bragging about enjoying fracturing someone’s skull. It’s disgusting behaviour. Such blatant violence against women at the hands of a male on display for all to see. Fallon Fox should never have been allowed to set foot in a ring against a female in the first place.

Apparently there's also some wackjobs out there who believe JK Rowling didn't actually write the HP books. Imagine being so bigoted that you erase a woman's name from her life's work.

And there's these disgusting misogynists, how fucking dare they
Whatever happened to the simple times of ‘your fave is problematic’?

Regardless of what anyone thinks of her opinions, I don’t see the value in claiming she isn’t the author whether stated jokingly or not. Of course it’s upsetting when someone whose art you enjoy and who you consequently look up to has a wildly different opinion to your own. Even more so when you perceive that opinion as an attack on yourself or those you care about. But at the end of the day, she wrote the books, you enjoyed them, people are multifaceted and you can separate liking art from liking/agreeing with a person

Personally, I like mostly 20th century literature. When I learned of certain writers being overtly sexist and/or racist, I did find it off putting as a woman of colour. But I learned to accept that liking their work didn’t mean I had to like their opinions. If these writers were modern and alive like JK Rowling, I might decide not to fund them which would be fair enough. There’s nothing wrong with voting with your wallet. However, declaring them no longer the author because you don’t agree with them is petty and pointless

I know ‘your fave is problematic’ became a meme but there’s value in the concept. Someone can produce amazing work yet be flawed. They (or their work) can still be your fave, but it’s healthy to acknowledge their perceived downfalls. Categorising people as good/bad with no grey area is dangerous and upholds them to a superhuman standard as no one is fully good or bad (and that’s subjective anyway)

Even with eating disorders it was never like this. We never encouraged anorexic kids to keep starving themselves if that’s what they truly believed they needed to do to be who they truly were’.

People don’t think twice about literally stopping their children’s growth and development with puberty blockers though (actually off label cancer treatments). It’s completely normal and healthy apparently to stall your child’s crucial development towards adulthood, so they can then skip puberty altogether and go through faux puberty via cross sex hormones that render them infertile with a myriad of health issues down the line. Completely and totally normal, nothing to see here.
Yes you're right and i certainly wasn't saying that eating disorders aren't real. Sadly kids do succumb easily to peer group pressure so if they see other kids starving themselves to be thin it can start them off on the slippery slope to developing an eating disorder.

I believe that is what's going on now with the gender identity crisis. Some (not all of course) are being influenced by seeing others do it and if they are confused, they think that perhaps they should change sex too.

It’s absolutely insane. The other day my (between 6 and 10 years old, keeping it vague, sorry) daughter said to me she wanted to be a boy. It feels like nowadays I’m meant to say “oh, maybe you are a boy! Let’s get you to the doctors! Let’s get you a stereotypical boy haircut and stereotypical boy clothes! Change your name!” or I’d be accused of all sorts of stuff like ignoring her gender identity etc etc.

Meanwhile, because I’m sane, I asked why she felt that she wanted to be a boy and after a bit of probing, we had a discussion about how girls can do anything boys can do and chatted about sexism in an age appropriate way etc and she went happily on with her day. It’s terrifying to me that some children expressing similar thoughts to what my daughter did are shoved onto the trans conveyor belt instead.
How right you are, thank goodness your daughter has a sensible mother.

Interesting that the men complaining on Twitter about the inclusion of a transgender model in the Sports Illustrated annual swimsuit edition aren't getting even a fraction of the abuse that JKR is.

I don't think the two can be conflated. I'm a Marxist, and identity politics is pretty far from Marxist materialism.

I think for a certain type of woke leftwing male, women occupy a space in their ideology where we, our medicine and biology specific facilities and services are considered ”luxuries”. I once sat in a university lecture in the noughties where the son of a barrister, public schoolboy, proudly declared “I used to be a Marxist and then a nihilist, but what I am most of all, is a hero to the working class”. My observation is the kind of idiot who treats a group of people as homogeneous and grateful proles, doesn’t mean that they can see women as an equal yet biologically distinct class.

Happy to go over to the gender board to discuss my hypothesis at some point, but my point is that just being a middle class educated young person doesn’t inure you to misogyny. It just means you use fancier words when you start kicking out women’s support structures and punching in our teeth for wrong speak.

Edit to say: Didn’t Karl Marx himself refuse to work and live off a woman?

The trans sense of entitlement really reminds me of er...male entitlement actually. Entitled to women’s spaces and women’s bodies.

Fuck off with that shit.
Sorry to quote from a post a couple weeks old but can I just say YES TO THIS 🙌🏻👏🏻

This is the perfect way of looking at this. I’ve rarely seen FtM trans freaking out in the same way as MtF.

It is male entitlement. Male privilege. Male intimidation.

And that can go fuck itself.

I'm not saying she shouldn't have free speech and talk about issues that are important to her but these people all seem like brands so from that pov it's just puzzling that's all.
She has enough money to have the freedom to voice her voice.

Did Tom not say anything about JKs tweets?

I couldn’t believe what DR, EW & RG tweeted after. They have thrown a woman under the bus THAT THEY PERSONALLY KNOW. Surely they would know she’s not transphobic, she’s not a bad person!m? She’s sticking up for women? Especially Emma, feminist my arse, didn’t like her much before but cannot stand her now!
They also threw the woman pretty much responsible for giving them everything under a bus. They haven't really achieved much since. Also, I think I've asked this question before, but if trans women are women would DR and RG date one?

Was so disappointed in EW- whatever about men throwing women under a bus, it was really upsetting to see EW do the same to another woman. Deplorable

Going to come clean, I’ve had some really good civil exchanges and debates on Twitter about the trans thing. Generally speaking, trans women have been the most pleasurable and good natured to exchange with. They get it, but disagree with the importance of biology to womanhood. The TRA men and young women who are “cis” have been the most insulting, hypocritical and dictatorial scumbags who just knee jerk their way around thread after thread. Aint that always the way.
Yep, all the people who had an issue with me expressing my support for JKR on FB were "cis" and straight men and one woman. Do they realise how much damage they're doing to real trans people? They're turning the tide against them. I've been enjoying watching Blaire White as a nice dose of logic and reality coming from an actual trans person

Regardless of my opinions of Rowling, seeing that front page of The Sun this morning has sickened me. No woman should have to wake up to find the face of her abuser on the front page of such filth. And for The Sun to undermine the abuse with that headline? It's never "just a slap" and even if it had been (which it clearly wasn't) – abuse is abuse and to stick him on the front cover and paint him as near-heroic is inexcusable. No woman should ever have to find her abuse underplayed like that.
There have been a high level of complaints about the Sun front page to IPSO. I wonder whether any of the Harry Potter crew or Redmayne will stick their oar in. I suspect not. They dont think abused women are their target audience. They probably dont have as much time to keyboard warrior on Twitter for a start so who cares about them eh?

Men who transition to be 'women' will never menstruate, have a womb, have overies, have a cervix ....need I go on.
When the trans movement are offended by women speaking the very basic biology truth we have a problem.
No medical doctor is going to disagree with the above statement. Now I'd rather be treated by a medically trained doctor who understands the human anatomy than a so quack interested in the metaphysics of gender and sex and making sure men who have gender dysphoria feel comfortable.

Really many trans women (men) are misogyny personified. They have ridiculous notions about what it is to be and look like a woman. And there seems to be a sinister movement of men (who have a things for trans) using the idea of a TERF to display vile misogyny whilst sleeping with men (dressed as women).
It's such a fucked up way of men yet again keeping women down
THIS.

Thank god for JKR giving us a loud voice. I’m so angry at those who are trying to ‘cancel’ her over this, particularly women who should have empathy. Look at this job advert from Sheffield City Council, read it, digest it. Anybody who can’t see an issue (clue SELF IDENTIFYING) has no right to speak on the subject because they’re clearly not capable of thinking about the implications.
This is horrendous. Imagine finally seeking support for a very traumatic experience, being guaranteed support from a female member of staff and then walking in to find a man sitting there.
