We live in a strange time for sure. Someone tweeted a few questionable things when they were back in high school? Condemn them! Sack them! Make them resign! But a violent p a e d o who beat up school kids? Let's look the other way

I’m thinking aloud here so probably won’t be logical. It isn’t the fact that someone is convicted that bothers me personally -it’s the nature of the conviction.
And you are right , Squalor Victoria, where do we draw the line in terms of time passed or lessons learned.

No I totally agree. There is no coming back from what he did IMO. And all made worse by the brazen attitude as if nothing had happened. It's the using his relationship for leniency. It's that he appears to have gotten away with it

It would be handy to have a Tattle Wiki here, where a list of the blue-tickers who follow/engage with IK & EJ could be kept for easy reference, via a nice pink button at the top of every IK page.

I sort of think him being convicted of these crimes is worse. If he was just accused there would the the ‘innocent till proven guilty’ defence. The fact he was convicted should absolutely have some sort of impact on his freedoms and rights. Twitter is abhorrent for not addressing that.

So much crowing on Twitter about Burchill leaving and also about her having been sacked from the Telegraph.

totally agree, the thing is, as no one (besides Burchill) has called him and india out, how would twitter even know? no idea how it works, but I imagine to delete someone , or at least get rid of their blue tick, it would need a big backlash

Just heard Nick Ferrari say he was going to discuss Julie Burchill’s sacking from the Telegraph for remarks re new ‘royal’ baby,

I think the problem with it being Julie Burchill who speaks up is that she is very easy for all of India & Eric’s supporters to ignore.

Of course the liberal luvvies can happily ignore someone who holds some really abhorrent views and has repeatedly gotten themselves into trouble for them.

I just feel like someone more sensible and less controversial is harder to ignore, harder to write off.

I don’t subscribe to the “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” philosophy, and therefore while I thought Julie Burchill’s tweets to India were excellent, I don’t support her because of them. Indeed, when she went after the vile Ash Sarkar, it was Ash whose side I was on, despite Julie being gender critical and Ash being a total knob.
Yep the Ash Sarkar thing was awful. I find it weird that the telegraph didn’t sack her over that but did sack her over these more recent comments.

It’s now 9.16 and LBC keeps mentioning Julie Burchill and asking people to guess what name she picked for the new royal sprog.

I’m not ok with blaming women for the actions of their partners. I’ve supported women who have discovered their partners are guilty of similar crimes to EJ and it has absolutely devastated their lives. They were not responsible and absolutely needed and deserved support from their friends.
Only EJ is responsible for his crime.
I’m no fan of IK but I feel for her because this must have been a horrific experience.

I'd normally agree but in this instance IK has stood by her violent p a e * * partner, allowed their relationship to be used as a mitigating factor in his sentencing and put her relationship with him above her own special needs daughter. And she has continued to breezily act like she is the expert on everything while judging others.

I don’t blame India for Eric’s crimes at all.

I do partially blame her for helping him get less punishment by using their relationship and the “love of a good woman” tactic.

I also blame her for not addressing the situation appropriately on Twitter, and instead making it all about herself, with no spare thought for the victims of Eric’s crime.

I also find it absolutely shocking that she has stayed with him. She has the wealth and the connections (and seemingly, the support network) to move on, unlike many less privileged women who find themselves in similar situations.

So, while I don’t blame her for EJ’s actions, I certainly do think India needs to take a long hard look at herself and question why she’s still with him, and has effectively chosen him over her daughter.

yeh exactly this is what makes it different. I don't get how someone could live with the knowledge they had helped someone like Eric avoid punishment. god knows what her relationship with her daughter is like now

Apparently she now lives with her father, I doubt the terms of EJ's non custodial sentence would allow him to live with children.
He must have been watching the vile paedophile pornography while IK's daughter was in the house.
Like others I find it impossible to understand how she can stay with a man who enjoys watching children being raped.

There’s a big circle jerk of wimmin in meedja who all support each other (liking each other’s Tweets & reviewing each other’s books etc). I suppose if you break rank from this brazen little crowd to criticise someone then you lose all your pals & therefore lose work, endorsements & being one of the gang.

Yeah I would imagine so, even if it wasn;t the requirement I assume her dad wouldn;t want her staying in a house with that monster

Yes it is baffling. An excuse given was his alcoholism. Which is disgraceful. Alcoholism doesn't make you a p*edophile - just makes you less inhibited about hiding it I would've thought.

exactly, I hate when people use mental health/substance abuse issues like this as an excuse, it just adds to the stigma of them imo
