What I don't get is that she seems quite nice? And also quite sane, outside of the Spanish bullshit.

With other liars like Jameela and Jack Monroe, they are clearly unhinged, have a nasty streak, and compulsively lie about a huge variety of things. Whereas Hilaria is nice and only seems to lie about the one thing, or rather, all her lies are on the same theme.

There's something about this I'm just not getting. My best theory so far is that she wanted to be Spanish to get Alec's attention, and to make herself stand out in a crowd. When she first met Alec, she wasn't famous, and she got away with it. She didn't think ahead that she would have to continue this facade with much more intense media attention in the future. But as she got more famous, not only did she continue to get away with it, but it became her brand, and she benefited from it. By this point, she had dug herself into a hole she couldn't get out of. But she relaxed anyway, because it had been so long, and the media still weren't calling her out.

I'm horrified to hear about comparing her orange "darker" skin with her children's white skin, and talking about racism. That shows that she is in fact involving her kids in the delusions, and confusing them with false backstories about their own family, and offensive lessons about non-existent racism. This makes me doubt my theory, and I wonder if she's actually a high-functioning mentally ill person, without the nasty narc streak that most fantasists have.

I’m finding the whole thing so weird but hugely entertaining. The fact it’s smart Alec’s wife is the icing on the cake. Not so smart now, eh?
Never liked him since the phone message he left calling Ireland a pig.

This is so bizarre that she made up a whole new persona. Did she really think in this day and age she wouldn’t be exposed? Pretending English was her second language, forgetting the word for cucumber on a cookery show and having to over annunciate the name Baldwin to her family at the wedding. Not only did she name her children Spanish names but she went as far as to name the family dog Diego! Alec will be ribbed for this for a long time!!
And the neighbours in Spain where her parents have been living for 9 years say they did not even know there was a daughter in the family! Her parents and brother speak English to each other. What on earth was her motive for this ruse? She has now become an international laughing stock. Cucumber anyone? How does one laugh in Spanish?🤣🤣

I know what happened here.
She gave birth may 2018 to her 3rd boy in a row.. Though stuff this.. Alec we are having ivf and gender selection.
Went through the process during autumn 2018 and got a batch of embryos. Implanted herself with a girl then had her 1st trimester miscarriage in Jan 2019.

She then went through the implantation again with another girl embryo and had her 4 month miscarriage with the girl in November 2018.
At this point they may have already decided to use a surrogate to carry further embryos as she had just muscarried twice.
Before that could even begin though she got pregnant naturally only a few weeks after her late miscarriage.. Iam sure this was a shock and they kept everything crossed she would have a healthy term girl.
They found out in March 2020 that the baby was a boy.. So began the surrogacy plan.
Surrogate implanted with a girl embryo in June 2020.
Hilaria gives both to natural conceived boy in September 2020 and surrogate gives both to their girl embryo in March 2021.

Morning 😊 just popping in to bathe in the latest Hilary publicity stunt. Wonderful left-field diversion - who saw that one coming?! The new baby seems to be wearing pink so I'm thinking they basically bought a girl. Classy.

So odd when it appears she tried to make herself looking more Spanish by basically dying everything!
I'm sure I've said this before but as a mother of 2 mixed race children, this is so offensive! I'm dark skinned, my children are both olive skinned so look nothing like me. When my son was born he was completely white. One of the dads on the ward was chatting to me because I was chatting to his wife. When he saw my son he jokingly said ' Who's the mother?' I laughed it off but I can still remember it. There are parents of mixed race children that this has happened to. Its rude and upsetting. She must know this kind of thing happens so she has appropriated someone else's experiences of racism to garner sympathy. And shes done it in 'Latina' magazine, read by non white Spanish speakers, who it could well have happened to. Most of the rest of it is just a chance to take the piss out of a stupid vain woman but to me, the appropriation of racist experiences as her own is not funny at all.

Yes, US people have one Italian ancestor 5 generations back and say they are of Italian heritage, but papers have looked into Hillary's heritage and there's no Spaniard or otherwise Latin ancestor to be found.

You can be a Francophile and learn French, incorporate French customs into your life, give your kids French names, but to adopt a French accent and sell yourself as French is beyond the pale and you gotta wonder about that person's state of mind.

And also - if it was a surrogate, they must have had embryos ready and waiting as you couldn't do egg retrieval while pregnant. Didn't she have a couple of miscarriages in between baby #4 & #5? When did they have time?
The whole thing looks dodgy and quite distrubing. I think that baby hoarding thing is indicative of much deeper issues.

This is anecdotal and an extreme case and I am absolutey NOT linking it to the Baldwins but when I was a midwife there was a very well known local case of a woman who had given birth ten times. The babies were taken off of her straight away but she would deliberately get pregnant as her partner would not beat her up if she was pregnant.

Some women are "chameleons" and change themselves to attract the mate of choice, I've got a friend on her 3rd marriage and I barely know her from the person I went to school with. Her 1st husband was a wannabe rock star so she dressed as a goth and even got married in black. 2nd husband was an old generation monied type and she became a lady who lunched wearing pearls. Her 3rd husband works in a theatre, and she's now a boho styled "lovey" really into the arts. I can't keep up. Look at Geri Horner - she went from Spice Girl to white clothed Stepford wife. I think Hillaria did this to attract Alec (fuck knows why) and now he's being laughed at, he'll be long gone. I feel quite sad for her actually that being herself wasn't enough - in fact any woman that doesn't have the conviction to be themselves. And feel "good enough".

She’s an absolute nut job. How can she keep pretending she’s Spanish? Why are people letting her. It’s like me pretending I’m Greek because I holiday there, love the food and culture, worked there, got married there and could be mistaken for a Greek person. You can have passion for a place but when you change your name, your accent, give all your kids Spanish names and pretend your tan is because you’re Mediterranean its just bonkers. If she didn’t have money, she’d be sectioned by now. She basically bought a baby girl because she was pregnant with a boy and wanted to give her eldest a sister. The mind boggles!

Shall we take bets on how long it’ll be until she posts a picture of her breastfeeding the two babies in tandem?

In her underwear, obvs.

Yikes. That’s terrible. She looks deranged, and he shouldn’t really be speaking at all (his lawyer won’t be pleased).
I almost feel sorry for Alec. On top of the shooting business, he’s now holed up in Vermont with a fake Spanish wife he can’t bear, six young children and their nannies. He’s in hell.

I might be mistaken but I think it’s a lot more common in the US to play around with heritage, like someone said, there is a thin line back to Irish or Italian roots even though they are full US citizens and never stepped foot out of the US.

Whereas in the U.K. people just don’t seem to do this half as much (aside from Sallie Axls never changing accent 😂).

In the U.K. we are way more aware of the expat community in Spain, seen as during the 90’s and 00’s a lot of people moved or retired there and most of us have visited and know that places like Mallorca are small islands, and by large, English speaking tourist resorts. You can visit Spain and never need to speak the language, perhaps in smaller rural areas it’s not the case, where it is mostly locals. I know people who have moved to Spain and put their kids into school there, they do speak Spanish but I am not sure they would class themselves as actually Spanish 😂

She obviously has a fondness for Spain and has clearly convinced Alec and herself that she is half Spanish by visiting there and saying she spent her ‘childhood’ there and has adopted Spanish culture wholeheartedly and embarrassingly!
It is true, I am a British expat in America and Americans LOVE to stay they are Scottish, Irish, German or whatever, but in reality they are born in Ohio as were their parents, grandparents, great grandparents etc etc. Being American seems 'boring' to them so it is very common to claim another heritage..... super weird

Oh God it was so nice having her off social media. That was all well orchestrated with the baby announcement. God love the poor kids, all of her content are the kids trained like performing monkeys. And they think they’re half Spanish. 🙄When’s she going to stop with the fake Spanish heritage? The way she talks, the paella, the Spanish music and calling themselves Baldwinitos! 🤬I like to holiday in Italy but that doesn’t make me Italian! 😂😂

I could just as easily have given another north Spanish region. The Basques have been intermarrying with people from other regions of Spain which is why some of them look stereotypically Spanish and some don't.

The Romans didn't leave a genetic mark, because not many of them actually travelled here. Travelling across a continent wasn't easy 2000 years ago. Also the DNA of the Romans was not that different from ours, as this was from before the Moors.

Whereas the moors very much did leave their genetic mark in southern Europe: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2947089/

Given that they raided Europe for slaves, it's not hard to see where this extra-marital DNA would have come from.

Why are you giving me examples of fair-skinned Spanish? People like that also exist in Pakistan and India. It means nothing.

Americans are not ignorant, and I explained were the confusion comes from. It's from making assumptions, taking Hilaria at face value, and her deliberately sewing confusion. I'm sure that most Americans know that Spain is in Europe where there are few native Americans.
So because around 5-10% of Spaniards have some trace of North African/Arab dna they’re not white? Most Spaniards wouldn’t agree. I gave examples of fair skinned Spaniards because you said there was a distinction between north and south and that Southern Europeans clearly had Arab/Turk ancestry. There’s a vast spectrum of looks in Spain (and in Arab countries and Turkey for that matter). I actually found your initial post quite uncomfortable, especially the comment about how you’ve always thought of Spaniards as different and not “white like me”. It all feels a bit unsettling. Furthermore, I highly doubt the average American who thought Hilaria was a woc came to that conclusion based on their knowledge of Spanish history and the Islamic Conquests. They lumped her together with Latinos and she was quite happy to go along for the ride. Anyway, I’ll stop derailing the thread as it’s starting to feel like we’re getting into weird territory.
