My great aunt was murdered. I don't remember her as I was only 4 when it happened but it is such a sad story. She was 66, never married, church goer. Actually the alarm was raised as she missed a prayer meeting.
She was strangled and raped. They got the killer 20 yrs later with advances in dna, she was a very brave lady and fought back and his blood was left at the scene. He got 25 years for murder and defiling a corpse, i hope he rots in there, evil scum. He was a young neighbour of hers.

I hope threads like this help true crime obsessives see the reality of these crimes and the people that are affected by them. Just reading about babies being murdered makes me feel so sad.
What makes you think they don't already see the reality and impact?

I know of someone who just left his house 5/6 years ago never to be seen again. Intentional but do wonder what happened to him. The police won’t help his family as he left of his own free will

A lady opposite my mums house was killed by her boyfriend and wrapped up in the curtains that were up in her living room. Was so weird we spoke about how we hadn't seen her for a while and next min she had been found in the drain. She was lovely aswell and only about 30 😢

Does anyone remember the Becky Watts murder in Bristol a few years ago? Well I grew up with and was friends with a girl called Jaydene Parsons who it turned out along with her bf had let the killer hide Becky’s body in her shed in return for money! She ended up going down for a few years for assisting an offender I think. It’s mental cause she was on my Facebook sharing news about it when the whole time the body was in her shed!! Shed only messaged me a couple of weeks before congratulating me on having a baby too!!!

Not directly related to me, but one of my friends was telling me that she knew someone in her year at school who was
murdered by her boyfriend and cut up her body and put her in a chest. Very sad.

This is an ongoing case but a guy who was in my year at school was looking after his girlfriends toddler when the child sadly fell down the stairs and died. I assumed it was a horrible accident but he plead guilty to killing him so I am not sure what actually happened, guess it will come to light later the year when he has his trial.
Well, he has now been convicted. Turns out the child did not fall down their stairs at all, but the guy who went to my school was continuously beating the child for months, and one day threw the child, knocked hum unconscious and he never woke up. Absolutely heartbreaking. The mum tried to blame the babies dad for the bruises he kept getting, and protected the guy who did it.

The guy has been convicted of manslaughter and awaiting sentencing, how he has not been convicted of murder is beyond me.

I went to the same school as Sian O'Callaghan, who went missing after a night out in Swindon, her body was found 2 weeks later.

I served her killer (Christopher Halliwell) when i worked in a pub. He knew one of my colleagues and would say to us girls "make sure you get home safe"

When I was was five I was sent to the shops to get milk, bread and fags for my mum. We were staying with a relative at the time. Young kids in the sixties were a little hardier than kids now so being sent out wasn’t abnormal.
I took a short cut across the park, after being expressly told not to. As it was full of tramps and drunks.
I saw a guy in the floor. His head was cleaved in two, yet his hat was still sort of on.. I could see his brain. It was very grey and clean, there was a pool of blood under his head and his eyes were open and he was looking up in the sky. I screamed and ran home. I got told off badly, and no one Called the police.

All these teachers taking advantage of students is and always will be totally unacceptable. But it's "funny" how society has double standards. Sam Taylor-Johnson is now married and has 2 children with Aaron Taylor-Johnson who she first knew when he was a child and who she started a relationship with when he was a 17 year old actor working on one of her films and she was a 42 year old producer. She's a very successful producer/artist and her contemporaries just seem to ignore the fact that she groomed an underage boy. Sorry bit of a tangent there but it always astounds me that more was not made of it at the time.

I sold a house a few years ago to a couple with three children. Both parents were police officers and were lovely especially the wife. They bought the house and whilst it was being renovated rented a house from a friend of mine so they could be close and oversee the works They spent a fortune extending it and unbeknown to his wife for a good degree of it they were up to their eyes in debt living wildly beyond their means with loans and re mortgages that he had forged her signature on. He strangled her in the hall and hid her body in the cupboard under the stairs and then went to pick up their children from the local school. Later he drove her body to a local lake and left her there. The police picked him up later that night They had CCTV of him in her car driving her off to hide her body. They found his trainers in a bin near the house. He pleaded NG at the start and had a trial and was convicted of her murder. He has never explained himself. Three children are effectively orphans now. It was horrific. If you met him you wouldn’t have an inkling. Tragic story all round and all to keep up with the “ Jones’s “ as it were

From all these stories here about teachers, it actually terrifies me how many teachers (presumably in the past as I think or *hope* checks are more vigorous now) were paedophiles
I was a primary school teacher about 10 years ago. I remember people used to joke that male primary school teacher are always paedophiles. I’d always laugh and say “apart from X and Y.” (X and Y were two male teachers I’d worked with in different schools - both amazing teachers, popular with pupils, staff and parents. Lovely men. One was older with a family, the other was younger and I dated him briefly). Anyway, when I’d been out of the profession for a while, I suddenly found out that X had gone to prison for having child porn and secretly filming children in his class getting changed. I was horrified and so so shocked. More years went by, then last year, Y was done for possessing child porn too. I was so so so sad about it. It’s made me wary of male teachers and I hate that because there are some brilliant ones who would be disgusted at the thought of paedophilia…but I thought that my two teacher friends were firmly within that category and o couldn’t have been more wrong.

Mine's a little different.

My late husband's uncle was executed in Texas. He first killed his own parents in the early 70s, and served 11 years before being paroled (the sentence was originally 30 years but he qualified for early release ... ), then was allowed to move to Texas where 5 years later he went on to shoot and kill his drug dealer and two of her friends. As if that wasn't enough he reloaded his shotgun, and shot the dealer's 4 year old daughter. He was tried and convicted of murdering the cop, and executed in 2000.

I mean ... yeah.

My childhood best friend was Debbie Mayor, whose Mum, Gwen was the teacher killed in Dunblane Primary School. We are still close & we work in the same hospital.
Incidentally, my Uncle was a Paramedic who attended the scene at Dunblane PS, he retired not long afterwards.

An ex girlfriend of one of my 2nd cousins died in her flat and wasn’t found for 3 years. There’s a documentary about it and it’s just a really sad story because she’d sort of lost touch with everyone and no one realised that she’d died.

I used to bother with a girl when I was about 18 and she was a part of a large friendship group along with a boy we all knew. Years later, she had a son and her and the boy we knew got together. I remember thinking it was random but wished them well. He was a known drug user but was always a decent guy, about a year after they got together I woke up one morning to a Facebook post from her saying how her little boy had passed away. We were all told that he fell down the stairs and broke his neck. I remember feeling sick and sooo sorry for her as I had a young son around the same age, I cried over it for weeks, we did a fundraiser to help towards his funeral and it was such a sad time. Woke up one morning to a message saying they had both been arrested on suspicion of murder. Turned out the little boy was abused for months and the boy had killed him and she tried to help him cover up the murder of her son!!! Her own mother stood by her. She is now free and posts all over her Facebook about her darling boy and he got 20 years. Makes me sick!!

When I was around 8/10 years old, one of my friends went missing. He was last seen going into someone's car but there was never too much done about it. He was never found and until today, his mother still puts posters up and looks for him.
