While we have a thriving social media community and some members have acquired large followings on their profiles, they aren’t officially affiliated with or funded by Slimming World – nor do we make a profit from their activity or from the brands that you mention. Although we can’t control what individuals post to their personal profiles – or comment on specific individuals or cases – we do have a social media policy for our Consultants and ground rules for the pages that we do manage, both of which are reinforced. We have shared these facts on numerous occasions recently so we’re unclear as to where your misunderstanding that we don’t have a policy in place has arisen from. Similarly, we have been clear about the fact that we absolutely do not condone offensive or hurtful behaviour, including bad language, online.
So many of our members tell us they find so much support, inspiration and motivation on social media and, while we’re very proud to have – and work hard to maintain – such a passionate, positive community, it just isn’t possible, or indeed within the spirit of social media and freedom of speech, to police every single mention of our brand on social media, of which we see tens of thousands every single day.
We know there has been much debate about Speed Free Food on social media recently. To clarify, for very best results on our plan, members are encouraged to include at least one third of a plate of Speed Free Food at each meal time (wherever they can and where it makes sense) and to reach for these foods first between meals. However, it’s important to say that instead of telling members what they can and can’t eat, Food Optimising puts members in control and allows them to choose what works for them and their lifestyle, with the support of their Consultant when they need it, of course.
