Great British Sewing Bee #2

Anna's final superhero outfit was an absolute mess, was really surprised as I thought the concept was great but for once she executed it really poorly. It looked amateur and rushed.

Adele's bee outfit was brilliantly made and really should have won, Rebecca's was ok but hardly garment of the week worthy.

The zip kid was a really clever idea it just wasn't as visual as some of the others.

Minnie did a good job but it wasn't really hitting the brief, I was starting to find her incredibly hard to watch the constant panic and stress gave me anxiety.

The shapeshifter was a unique idea but it didn't really work and the end result was a bit mediocre. No one needs a random velcro attached fin.

I also liked Beth's costume - but I didn't feel there was enough of it really, the padded vest was great but it lacked something. Also using shot silk is a choice for a kid's costume!!

I really want Heather‘s disco trousers but turned into a jumpsuit. And I loved Emma‘s rainbow dress.

This is a great challenge

I thought Anna's disco outfit top was far too tight across the bust tbh.

Next week looks a lot of fun.

Not did I.
I liked Beth's even though it wasn't disco enough for them.
I think Rebecca thought she had it in the bag 🤭
Me three re: Anna. Was it Rebecca who did the red outfit? I loved that too, very stylish and beautiful

Honestly if I had a Time Machine I’d go to Studio 54 for a night out in the mid 70s (on one of the nights with dwarves adorning plates of c on their heads)

I was not getting disco from Anna’s trousers - they were more MC Hammer than Studio 54 😂

I find Rebecca so out of touch with popular culture. The pop star invention outfit was plain weird.

I thought '90s rather than '70s as well.
Beth's was criticised a bit harshly, I think. I could imagine Bianca Jagger wearing that while being stared at oddly by Andy Warhol.

I can’t understand why they thought Rebecca’s outfit met the brief and Beth’s didn’t?

Rebecca's was nice and really well-made, and I like the fact she made something that would look good on someone over a size 8. I sort of understood the Halston references, but it came out more like something you'd wear to a destination wedding than a disco outfit. If she'd have incorporated a hood, it would have looked more Halston.

I think Anna's disco trousers would have worked better with some kind of floaty spangly netting material or chiffon attached to the shorts rather than the rather stiff material she used.
It's a good open competition though - a few of them could win. I think Beth is a bit of a dark horse - her sewing and tailoring is always exquisite but she sometimes lets herself down (in the judges eyes - I don't always agree) by her designs being a bit conservative.

Yes, it was definitely 90s with all that tin foil-esque look. Beth's disco outfit was great (I think she has a similar taste in colours and modesty to me). Rebecca's although plain had lots of bias that wasn't stretched out at all as it was handled so well, was definitely chic ;)

I would've picked Emma's outfit for garment of the week. I wasn't sure about it from the description, but when I saw the end product it was stunning!

I thought it was gorgeous too. I also loved heathers, I thought it was spot on for the brief. Does anyone else feel like heather only joined the competition last week? I can’t remember any of her creations from earlier weeks at all.

I agree with you all re Anna’s silver outfit - it was great but it didn’t scream 70s to me, it was 90s popstar.

The girlband outfits couldn’t have been any more different - one side looked like actual stage costumes, the other like fancy dress. Which I knew would be the case when I saw who the teams were.

Not a good screenshot - but I thought Anna's top was awful. It just didn't fit across the bust at all.

Watching again I agree Heather's was so good with the long red cape.
I actually think Anna's was the worst.
Patrick and Esme both seem dazzled by extremely over the top outfits this year.
