I am here too, very military orientated with not a great deal of movement in or out of the town. Saw this on Twitter from a proud Mum "I love my son so much". It made me cringe so hard and my sympathies go out to the poor teacher. It's hard enough dealing with teenagers as it is without adding this nonsense into the mix

I have OCD. There is a form of it (that I’ve never personally experienced) that is rooted in fear of being attracted to children. People with this aren’t attracted to children, they just have anxiety over the idea that they might, jn the same way as they have anxiety about having left the job on even though they know they haven’t. To see OCD smeared as legitimising paedophilia makes me sick.
Not for the first time have I heard calls to make paedophilia legal! 
The excuse being that children need to explore not only their gender but also their sexuality, which can only be fully achieved with the guidance from adults blah blah blah.
I have read so many stories about the sexualisation of children via social media, that it really comes as no surprise that legitimising paedophilia is the next "logical" step.

Ana Valens is also the guy who wrote an article bizarrely claiming that sex in public is inherent to being "queer" and is only banned as a deliberate form of oppression of "queer" people. I'm bisexual and most of my friends are gay/bi, I guess we all missed the memo on that one, we all get by just fine without needing to have sex in front of a crowd ...

I understand the coloured footballers vs footballers of colour bit. The former was used during segregation, was used by whites to negatively speak about people of colour, basically "coloured people" has massive historical negative connotations so I think it's fair not to say that.It really is becoming rather silly, and someone needs to say enough is enough before we truly enter the world of 1984 and ThoughtCrime!
I read on the BBC a few days ago that some footballing bloke in charge of the FA called Greg Clarke had to resign because he called black footballers "coloured footballers" rather than the more acceptable "footballers of colour"
Not sure if that is the full reason, but if it is then I think we have come to the point where anything we say will have to be carefully considered, sanitised, censored and reconsidered before we actually say it in public!
I suppose the only bit of schadenfreude here is for The Guardian itself to find itself on the tit end of the stick, to the point where internecine politics is forcing even its own established liberal/feminist writers to end up as part of the problem!
That terminology is certainly outdated but him being forced to resign is just playing into cancel culture. We're human and all make mistakes and when you look at what he said he wasn't saying anything bad about black people:

I feel sorry for the teacher but if this took place in Ireland then, this is what they’ve created (they as in the rule makers, not Irish people in general). I’d be surprised if anyone fails exams in future, they could cry transphobia or claim wrong answers submitted were actually correct as per the rules of Woke.

I do agree with that, I think that it doesn't matter the context of what he said though - but what's important is he apologized. I don't think he should've gotten sacked though.
True, but by the same token/context, I rather think NAACP need to change their name to reflect changing times.
I’ve been wondering about this for a while, specifically in the science subjects. I did what would now be considered a very transphobic leaving cert biology exam in 2010 for which we learned both the male and female reproductive system and would be given one on the exam to draw and label. How are students going to do that now? Just learn one and draw it for whatever comes up or write an impassioned essay about how sex isn’t real and how your feelings are what is important?
Are we eventually going to have to take biology out of science?
I wouldn’t be surprised at this point.

I think context is everything- it clearly was a slip of the tongue and not something that was designed to cause offence.
It did take place over here, sadly. This kind of woke nonsense is everywhere over here. I'm guessing state exams will have to not use the man/ woman, male/ female in any context
See I understand, but what I meant was that if I slipped up (I have asked what the distinction was) the most important thing would be to apologize/say you didn't know etc.
I'm still bristling over a conversation that was had today on a what's app group today where someone made a very throwaway joke about women being indecisive. Someone piped up with a lecture about how it's not just women, there are non binary people and then trans too. A discussion was had on gender identity politics and someone else piped up "can't people live and let live, what harm is it if someone wants to identify as non binary or a different gender". This person admitted to not knowing a whole lot about gender identity politics but still weighed in with that extremely facile argument. Drives me up the wall
But this "apologizing" is the thin end of the wedge because if someone says anything to do with gender, race, age, whatever, these days someone somewhere will be offended and head off to social media to make a big deal of it.
This football guy resigned because of semantics, but as we know we have to apologize over pronouns even though we think it is quite ridiculous.
People can't say "large", can't say "thin", can't say "housewife", can't say "immigrant" can't say blah blah. When will it all end one wonders?
Just catching up but also came to say I finally got pronouned too - asked to put them in my Zoom name on a committee I volunteer for. I said I didn’t want to as my pronouns aren’t my name, I don’t put my title or any other info about myself there that isn’t my name so why would I want pronouns there? Some clown said ‘so we know we’re not misgendering you’ !!! Anyway I just said I’m not doing it, when we are conversing I expect to be called ‘you’ anyway and what you use when speaking about me to others is none of my business/I don’t care. I noticed a couple of other ladies looked uncomfortable at being asked to put their pronouns up too, none of the men minded though

they can’t force you to put information about yourself anywhere.I also am just sick of this whole obsession anyway like...why does it matter if I’m male, female, or anything in between when sitting on a Committee? It’s not a Committee related to male or female or whatever issues, I’m not there to give my lived experience as a woman, I’m actually there in a semi professional capacity. We don’t need to be thinking about our gender or sex 24/7, I’m tired of everything I do being forcibly linked in some tenuous way to gender ideology.
I was pleased to see that by today a lot of the women in my zoom group had taken off the she/her brackets. Maybe they had a talk with a normal person and realised it was totally pointless and performative to have them when we are all women (one man). I can see if someone wants to use it then that’s going to be better for them so people can use their preferred pronouns. We had a non binary person (who was female) with they them and that was helpful I guess... if you were talking about them in the group I suppose.

Religion? Political allegiance?!? Why am I being asked to state the one thing that is BLINDINGLY obvious?!?
