ActionAid UK - I am gobsmacked at the idiocy.

Allowing self-determination of our bodies is a basic feminist principle? What the fuck does that even mean? Does self-determination help a young girl in Ethiopia who can't attend school because she's menstruating? If she self-determined her body as male, would that solve her problem?

FUCKING FUCK OFF WITH THIS RIDICULOUS IDEOLOGY.

I've been watching these threads for quite a while and really feel conflicted by this whole situation we find ourselves in. I've always considered myself staunchly left wing and have always believed in equality. I still do, and if a genuine trans women felt safer in a woman only space i'd welcome her with open arms. However, it seems the narrative has been hijacked, and now the only prerequisite for being a woman now seems to be a mini skirt and badly applied red lippy. How can we seriously consider opening up our most intimate spaces to anyone and everyone, to throw away the rights that have been so badly fought for? It really baffles me and I'm a little scared for the future.

In terms of the erasure of gendered terms, that doesn't bother me as much, as long as we carry the same energy when it comes to erasing men as we do women, though something tells me that's when we might start to see a backlash against all this. Its easy for TRA's to attack women as realistically nobody gives a shit i've learned. It's only when trans-women, post-op or with their designer vaginas start demanding straight men sleep with them or face the same consequences they've threatened women with for so long will we start to see a change.

I don’t think I’ll ever get on board with the concept of non-binary, it seems like the emo phase of the early 2000’s. Isn’t Nb just someone who, depending on how they’re feeling on a particular day sometimes wears men’s clothes and sometimes wears women’s clothes? Which bathrooms do these people use or does that depend on how they’re ‘feeling’ too?

We should just keep toilets etc segregated by biological sex rather than how someone identifies and be done with the whole thing.

That really has summed it up for me, that there is an exceptionally small fraction of 'trans' people (who I imagine aren't actually trans, they're vile misogynistic pricks) who are just masquerading under the guise of being trans in order to spread hatred and division.
You know, I have a slight problem with the idea that violent, aggressive and misogynistic trans people “aren’t really trans”. They SAY they are trans, therefore they are trans. Take them at their word.

To deny that they are trans is to deny the truth: that it’s possible to be both trans and dangerous misogynists, and a significant proportion of trans people (well, I mean trans women specifically) are like that.

I think this is a problem with the Left generally: the belief that you shouldn’t criticise a marginalised group, and any bad apples must be cast aside from that group before you can criticise them.

This might be a controversial comparison to make, but whenever Islamic extremists murder innocent people, the response is always “they aren’t true Muslims”. Except... they are Muslims because they say they are (albeit violent, radicalised ones). I don’t see the problem with acknowledging that.

20 minutes, they gave the debate. It’s terrifying.

I had a referral to a gynaecologist recently. I chose one with a female name, then Googled the crap out of her to try to establish, er, how long she’d had that name. (Because I wanted a woman specialist, not somebody who simply likes to dress like one.)

Benjamin Cohen talking about his “right” to have a baby.

YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO RENT A WOMAN’S BODY, BENJAMIN.

Incidentally, Mumsnet deleted not one but two threads about Benjamin Cohen and surrogacy on their Feminism board. Apparently they considered it wrong to discussion surrogacy in the context of one individual... despite the fact that his tweets were out there in the public domain and being debated widely.

THEN I realised they deleted those threads because he boo-hooed about them on Twitter. And they capitulated. Fuck this shit.

I was always taught that when you go through puberty your brain Is re written and you change so much - hence the mood swings, typical teenage behaviour (this is all very broad I know). If that process is not happening, then what is happening to their brains, surely they aren’t developing as they should as well as their bodies
This is true. Kids on puberty blockers not only lose IQ points but seem stuck in a childlike mindset. Look at Jazz Jennings. Puberty isn’t just about developing an adult body, it develops the adult brain.

I often wonder if the internet is genuinely making people mentally ill. It’s so easy to absorb yourself in tribes and echo chambers that feed abnormal thinking.

TedxLondon recently tweeted about their choice to move from using woman to ‘womxn’

‘Womxn’ is so dehumanising and ironically - given those who use it want to be inclusive and intersectional - appears to imply transwomen are not women.

Glad to see this nonsense is being received poorly.

Must be a slow day in lockdown for these morons who feel the need to publicly denounce someone’s work before actually checking it out for themselves. All they see is a controversial headline and a way to increase their likes and followers. Nothing better to talk about?

Also, on the subject of JKR’s new book, I wonder why there wasn’t the same uproar over Thomas Harris’ novel, “Silence of the Lambs” when it also featured a serial killer who dressed as a woman (and made a “woman suit” from the skins of his female victims). Oh that’s right, because it was published in the 80’s and the “woke” generation didn’t exist then. 🙄

Yeah you don't see "mxn" being used...if you did there would be uproar.
I *literally* just saw a use of "womxn" but "men" in the same sentence in the wild not 10 minutes ago on this very forum (in a guru subforum). Yes, I called it out. It's infuriating.

By the way, I forgot to post this earlier in answer to another comment but Munroe Bergdorf is extremely toxic and has a long history of abusive behaviour

Is that the best they can do? Call her a terf? I’ve been called one many times and I just don’t consider it an insult. I’m a woman who can cope with an imbecile calling me names. ‘Terf alert’? Oh do fuck off little boy.

I’m still pretty left wing despite this one issue. I refuse to believe that being gender critical suddenly moves me all the way to the (often far) right wing according to the TRA’s. It’s just not as black and white as that.

Superdrug have launched a range of sanitry products called luna and on the box they have decided to use the phrase a person who mensturates instead of a woman who mensturates. I don't understand why they don't use the word woman since it's only women who mensturates. It seems like the word women has become a dirty word and people are too afraid to use it.

This shit is out of hand. If you were a real woman, you'd know that we don't get to opt out of our sex-based oppression.

If you are a woman, you are a woman at all times--even when it is not "convenient" for you.
this shit is annoying jumping in and out of a gender just to get a job? really?

and they're more oppressed then women?

This person has too high an opinion of me. I would literally hold a gender reveal party just for this reason.

You know what is most upsetting about the reddit ban?

There are still dozens of subreddits glorifying rape, CSA, revenge porn etc. Like, it’s a cesspool of hate and misogyny. 😡
