So so much this. Honestly I think even bio women who swallow this guff have more internalised misogyny than they could ever begin to realise.

I hate saying this (and I apologize in advance if this offends anyone) but in my experience at least, often the loudest people in these communities tend to be very unattractive people inside and out, and I honestly can't help but feel like they want to use the whole trans thing to get attention and as an excuse for why people dislike them, instead of taking a hard look at themselves. It almost reminds of me of when companies started using "real bodies" (which is another topic onto itself, but I think it's good that they have a variety of body shapes instead of just tall, skinny, models, although being thin is also normal) and the people that were most hateful towards thin models were not the healthy, "normal" women with regular bodies but the super obese who clearly had medical issues, and deluded about this reality. Classic cases of deflect and attack.

The healthy LGBT people I know are honest about their preferences/situation, and just live their life like normal folks. They might donate to or occasionally bring awareness to major events in the LGBT community but they're not aggressive about it, and they accept that other people may have different opinions. They also don't impose their opinions onto others.

The teenage years are a difficult time and no one really knows who they are, you're still discovering your identity as a person and it's a tough time to navigate. A lot of people settle into themselves when they go to college and start working or whatever. I just hate the thoughts of Mermaids telling a confused and hormonal teen they're trapped into the wrong body as if the body they were born into is something to be ashamed of and needs tampering with. And!!! Are Transvestites still a recognised group? Do people still identify as transvestite? Or do they have an other name now?? Like women do??

Honestly, it seems to be that transvestite is seen as an outdated and taboo word and not to be used anymore. Even people who fit the definition of “transvestite” now embrace “transgender” and I think there are several reasons for that:

1. As males, they can now enjoy being an oppressed minority for the first time

2. Everyone knows that tranvestitism is a fetish. “Transgender” takes the seediness away from being a crossdresser and legitimises it

3. It gives them the freedom to take their fetish out in public

For example, I saw some seriously disturbing tweets where a man photographed himself trying on knickers in M&S, masturbating into them and putting them back on the hanger for some poor woman to find

I am not a fan of ‘gender reveal parties’ never did it with my two kids. Just told people after the 20 week scan. But this person is insane. Not everything revolves around the tiny minority of people who consider themselves trans. People do these parties because to them it’s a bit of fun not because they violently hate trans people.

God, they’ll take anything and try to turn it into a backlash against them, these extremists. I didn’t have a gender reveal either, I just told family then did a FB status later for friends etc. I very much doubt that expectant parents are out there passive-aggressively trying to get at Trans people with their pink or blue cakes and confetti balloons ffs. They’re just excited about their baby.

I'm part of a fb group for women in my male-dominated field of work, and someone keeps starting their posts addressing women and non-binary people. How does this make sense? Women is in the name of the group, but by their logic nb people opt out of womanhood so why should they still be addressed in this context?? Do all these people have one iota of consistency between them?

Incidentally, Mumsnet deleted not one but two threads about Benjamin Cohen and surrogacy on their Feminism board. Apparently they considered it wrong to discussion surrogacy in the context of one individual... despite the fact that his tweets were out there in the public domain and being debated widely.

THEN I realised they deleted those threads because he boo-hooed about them on Twitter. And they capitulated. Fuck this shit.

I'm still reeling by the idea that feminism to include men is more inclusive. Fuck that.

Nobody asks this of people with other protected characteristics, either. We never see disabled people saying 'let's let everyone identify as being disabled if they want to!' and when some very strange people have claimed to identify as a different race, it's shut down immediately. What is different about being female? I see no qualitative difference whatsoever. But for some reason, all bets are off when it comes to women. Where's our protection?

I feel very strongly about all of this and I fear this is going to result in the biggest fight of our generation. For that reason, I was looking into studying an MSt in Women's Studies at Oxford. I went onto the webpage today and see the name of the course is now 'Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.' We're not even allowed this course anymore. It's absolutely dire.

One of the members of my extended family, who resides in Scandinavia, is gay and married to a man and they decided they wanted biological children a few years ago. They found a surrogate in India because it was cheap and legal there. They used eggs from Denmark so now they have these two very blonde, blue-eyed children who were actually carried by an Indian woman and born in India. They're very young and don't quite understand the details of what happened there, but as a woman, I would feel very weird about carrying multiple babies and never seeing them again, and they're also not raising the children to know anything about India or Indian culture (I understand the babies are for all intents and purposes genetically Scandinavian) and all that just feels wrong to me.

Also I can't help but feel it is exploitation, because obviously if it was viable to have a local surrogate, they would've opted for that but they instead went for what they called a "cost-effective" option. It just makes women, especially those from disadvantaged countries, sound like human incubators to be taken advantage of.

Hello! I've wandered over here from JKR thead in Celebs. I think JKR is fanstistic - so intelligent and eloquent. But there's one thing that I really don't understand and the Stephen King tweet highlighted this tonight.

Why is this always about Trans women? Why does trans men never seem to mentioned?

We need to wake up, and quick. Destruction of our liberties and life as we know it will not come at the hands of brutal war, that’s further down the line, but implosion of society as we turn in on each other.

EDIT: To clarify —all humans deserve to have their life and survival respected. But we do not need to respect ideologies if it threatens the fabric of our liberties. Stop the rot!

This has popped up more than once on my Instagram feed and it’s pissing me off.

It’s well known that black women are more likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth due to institutional racism that means their concerns are ignored and their pain is dismissed. It’s really important that campaigns exist to publicise this.

But don’t call them black birthing people.

I mean WTF? Can you think of a more nonsensical, dehumanising word salad than “black birthing people”?

It’s just ridiculous when products for men aren’t getting the same treatment. You never see condoms with “for people who ejaculate” on the label, or Gillette changing their slogan to “the best a person who shaves their face can get”. I’m sick of it all.
