My partner just sent me this
(sorry if it’s been pointed out before)
Yes!!! The parents make it as much a part of their identity as the poor child and it rules out any possibility of the child being able to simply change their mind because their parents have "invested" so much into it. It's so unhealthy!I don’t know how to properly phrase it but these parents getting all excited about having a very young ‘trans’ child puts me in mind of munchausens by proxy. They get to show off what a ‘warrior’ they are, get praised for being so accepting and progressive, and sympathy too because “it must be so hard you’re such an amazing parent”. I don’t think most of them set out to lie about it (although I’m sure that happens too) but they take a few examples of their child being ‘gender non conforming’ get all excited and turn their lives upside down over it. it must make it really hard down the line for the child to then turn around and say “actually that was just a phase” because your parents have invested so much in you being trans or non binary and you don’t want to disappoint them. My brother used to sometimes pretend to be a girl when he was very young, he liked pink and wore glittery jelly sandals and had a girl name but it was just make believe because he was a little child and he looked up to me as his big sister and wanted to copy me! I imagine some parents now would see that behavior and immediately put out a social media post announcing their trans daughter‘s new pronouns![]()
I mentioned this in another thread but I see people constantly justify this. Often the same people criticise other celebrities for having inappropriately younger partners, but with Tennant it’s ok because “she was an adult” “she already had a child” “actually he thought he might be too old for her, she did all the chasing!” They can understand that an adult in their early 20s is still vulnerable to manipulation by an older partner when it’s, I don’t know, Liam Payne (23 when he dated Cheryl) or Amber Heard (iirc about the same age when she got with Johnny Depp) but with Tennant it’s apparently okPS: Wikipedia tells me Tennant and Moffett met in 2008, incredibly that’s 15 years ago. GM (now 38) would have been 23 and DT (now 52), 37, if my maths serves me correctly. Not the kind of age gap I think often serves the female of the partnership very well.
They call it Transhausen by proxy! But I agree 100%. For a certain type of parent, having a “queer” or “trans” kid is a DREAM for them. A massive ego trip. I’ve met people like this.I don’t know how to properly phrase it but these parents getting all excited about having a very young ‘trans’ child puts me in mind of munchausens by proxy. Age gaps between older couples bother me much less, but there’s something about the age gap between a person approaching / in middle age and someone at the outset of their life adult (and it might “only” be 14 years but that’s exactly what 23 vs 37 means) that’s just so striking. GM might have had a child but she was well-supported by wealthy family and still working out what her life would look like, all the same, and in the modern era 23 isn’t as mature as it might have been in days gone by. DT was heading for 40, already established in his career and had had his big break, and knew exactly who he was. Ready to settle down, he chose one of the youngest actresses he had worked with. What attracts a man that age to a woman so much younger? I see DT tried to say “oh it seemed silly” to marry GM because of the age gap, oh how amusing, all part of the foppish image he tries to portray I suppose, the fact he is chose not to date, marry or have kids with a woman the same age as him; and if he were 54 and she 40 it wouldn’t really matter, but 37 / 23 jumps out.I mentioned this in another thread but I see people constantly justify this. And not long before her he dated Sophia Myles (who’s also appeared in Doctor Who) who is 9 years younger than him. He wasn’t her first relationship with a much older man either - before him she dated Charles Dance who is almost old enough to be her grandfather. But it is a pattern, a lot of DT’s fans thought that relationship was soooo cute tooAge gaps between older couples bother me much less, but there’s something about the age gap between a person approaching / in middle age and someone at the outset of their life adult (and it might “only” be 14 years but that’s exactly what 23 vs 37 means) that’s just so striking. Tbh I only think it’s inappropriate when one of the parties was below the age of 18 whilst the other was either significantly older when they first met/starting dating AND in a significantly higher position of power. Of the many things wrong with DT and his missus this ain’t it and detracts from actual groomers like Tyga with Kylie Jenner, Sam Taylor-Johnson with Aaron Johnson etc.I mentioned this in another thread but I see people constantly justify this. DT was 37, he could have easily had children with a woman over 30 at very least. I just don’t buy any of it.And not long before her he dated Sophia Myles (who’s also appeared in Doctor Who) who is 9 years younger than him. He wasn’t her first relationship with a much older man either - before him she dated Charles Dance who is almost old enough to be her grandfather. I have also seen people justify it with “but he wanted kids!” Apart from the fact that there’s a lot of misinformation around age and pregnancy (no, pregnancy is not impossible after 35 or even 40; no, they don’t always need IVF; no, they’re not guaranteed a child with Down’s Syndrome or birth defects) he could’ve still quite easily had kids with a woman in her early thirties and not that much younger than him. But there are lots of men, and women, in entertainment with suspiciously younger partners. It just bothers me that people are willing to make excuses for Tennant partly because things like his support for the trans movement endears him to them
Agree to disagree. Over 18 is perfectly legal, but can still be inappropriate, depending.Tbh I only think it’s inappropriate when one of the parties was below the age of 18 whilst the other was either significantly older when they first met/starting dating AND in a significantly higher position of power. That’s fair. It’s more like it bothers me to see his fans make excuses for him over something they’d otherwise criticise and it feels like that’s partly because of his support for trans issuesTbh I only think it’s inappropriate when one of the parties was below the age of 18 whilst the other was either significantly older when they first met/starting dating AND in a significantly higher position of power. Hard agree - as someone in an age gap relationship, I look at it so differently now I’m older than my partner was when we first met. Even with good men, the power dynamics are skewed too far in their favour. It’s not always the case, but there is such a massive learning & life adjustment process a person goes through in their 20s, that anytime I see someone who yes, is over 18 but (rough rule of thumb) under 30, but dating someone significantly older than them, I am of the view that often something else is going on than true love with an age gap. It’s where a person wants someone who (speaking broadly) is still likely learning who they are, even if they’re both adults. They’re both adults, no-one can stop them, it’s not illegal, but often when the younger party reaches the age their partner was when they met them they start to wonder what the hell that person was doing.
I wonder if anyone else here has read “When Bad Things Happen in Good Bikinis” by Helen Bailey - yes the author who was tragically murdered. It’s a memoir about her experiences as a widow after her husband suddenly died in an accident. They got married when she was in her early 20s, he was almost twice her age and she was his third wife. She wrote a very honest, poignant chapter about how her husband had done many things over the years that were selfish or deceptive (such as lying to her so she would agree to co-sign on a business loan, or putting down a deposit for a house she specifically said she did not want to buy.) At the time she shrugged it off but later, with age and experience, came to realise this was not how she wanted to be treated and would push back at him if he tried it again, which had led to arguments. That gave me a perspective that I hadn’t had before …Hard agree - as someone in an age gap relationship, I look at it so differently now I’m older than my partner was when we first met. Just another awful talentless entitled " media luvvie" . Like most of them. What the ffffffuck?
I hate grand displays of child sexuality that are encouraged by the parents. He’s ten FFS.
