I didn’t have a problem with them having a trans character, I’m fact I thought that binary/non binary thing was quite clever (don’t worry, I am still a terf ha ha) but as a massive fan of Doctor Who during the DT era, I was so disappointed at the lack of attention to detail and general lack of attention to how amazing it was the Doctor and Donna could be reunited. The episode where he had to wipe her mind was so beautiful and heartbreaking but this ep left me feeling a little cheated. It was like the whole plot was “trans” and that should never have been the focus.
Yes, it left me feeling that the story was secondary to the trans stuff and was just used as a vehicle for that.
We’re not DW fans in our house but we had it on in the background and my 11 year old was watching it and seemed to be enjoying it. He liked the meep cos it was cute. I knew the teenage ‘girl’ was trans but wasn’t bothered as I thought she was just playing a girl. I wasn’t paying close attention so didn’t realise that they mentioned the trans stuff

I liked heartstopper on netflix. I think Kit is a great lead. Joe Locke isn’t the best actor but he’s not the worst, he went down in my opinion when he was hanging out with Dylan Mulvaney a few weeks back. Darcy’s actress in real life is non-binary and very absorbed into that world. Apparently she was bullied at school for being a les and seems to have some self esteem issues.She seems to come from a very privileged background and her friend’s outside of the cast all look very unwashed, she seems to be a typical case of middle class rebellion.
As for Yaz, I think their acting is awful. And just one look at ‘her’ instagram shows how sexualised ‘she’ views ‘herself’. Personally think ‘she’ has only been given these opportunities because ‘she’ ticks a few boxes, rather than having any talent.

Does anyone remember the ITV series butterfly? The 11 year old boy in it wants to become a girl and the mum is very supportive and the dad is made out to be a complete villain for trying to protect his child and stop the mother taking the child to America for gender affirming treatment?
I remember watching it when I was about 18 and being horrified at how the dad could treat their child in such a way and now reflecting on it, it was just pure propaganda. It’s so similar to how groomers vilify children’s parents to turn them against them.

The dad was insensitive (you could see that he would have reacted badly had his son "just" been gay or GNC) but yeah, it was huge propaganda and totally understandable that he'd try to stop his ex taking their son out of the country for treatment. Especially when she'd already been investigated by police over it! I remember other stuff about the show like:
- The child was depicted as attempting suicide and then threatening suicide to get what he wanted and it worked each time - this will just encourage kids to do the same
- The child agreed to put away his "boy" toys (that he still liked/played with) and have his room redecorated because a girl can't play with dinosaurs or have a blue bedroom apparently. Really horrible way to enforce absolute gender stereotypes and it's not even consistent in its own logic. If he's a girl because he likes pink, wants to wear pretty clothes and play with dolls, etc. but he still likes toys for "boys", what does that make him?
- The subplot where his sister starts rebelling because no one in the family pays her any attention, it's all about her brother. That was realistic but they dropped it very quickly
I just watched the new Dr Who episode and thought it was a return to form. I couldn't stand Jodie Whittaker in the role so it was good to have David Tennant back.
The pronouns and binary thing irked me a bit but it could've been worse. It is indoctrination of young impressionable people by the BBC though.

Mainly because it’s so blatantly about social conditioning, especially of the (mostly young and/or neurodivergent) obsessive DW audience. Russell T Davies and the TIM actor playing Rose did an interview (it’s circulating on Twitter) about how important it is to normalise being trans and getting the message out to young people.
This is where the conflation of trans rights and gay rights annoys me. Being trans is not the same as being gay. We shouldn’t be normalising being trans any more than we should be normalising any mental illness that causes harm to developing bodies and brains.
Tbf RTD did DW back when it relaunched in 2005 and it was bleeping brilliant. I stopped watching when Catherine Tate joined as I didn’t like her at the time (this was back when I was a kid lol) but when he left the show went back to tit.
But clearly last nights was just adding this nonsense in for the sake of it. Why do we need stuff about pronouns and troonery when it’s about fictional aliens and monsters and travelling through time and space ffs
I do rate RTD’s writing in general. Some of the things he’s done have been very insightful and he’s a very good story teller. He has used his writing to challenge wrongful and / or bigoted assumptions in a lot of his shows. I just think he went too far in Dr Who in trying to impose an ideology with no basis in fact on the viewers.
RTD wrote ‘Years and Years’ which explored (but seemed opposed to) transhumanism.
It’s a Sin was one of the best shows I’ve seen. Terribly sad, funny and devastating all at the same time.
