I haven’t been able to reply to everyone about their favourite female authors, but I’m so glad that everyone has shared. I’m going to sound a little soppy, but it’s so nice to see that there are so many amazing women who have inspired us in the greatest joy that is reading. I was very sick as a child so I was often in hospital, and reading became a salvation for me. Jacqueline Wilson was a godsend with her books as they kept me going. I had the honour of meeting her last year at a talk and she was lovely and that honestly made my entire life happy International Women’s Day, you brilliant women. You’re all amazing

When I was 15, I read the Women’s Room by Marilyn French. It had such an effect on me, as it showed the power of female solidarity. In these awful times where we are fighting for everything all over again, I find it so comforting to have this thread, other places and groups to feel less alone.
Yesterday was upsetting, seeing vile tweets full of lies like Corbyn’s and the Hershey crap, all of it so misogynistic.
I’ve just seen that bloody trans kiln witch kicking off on Twitter about being excluded from Teh les Project. It’s so hypocritical! Lesbians don’t have meltdowns about trans groups and trans Pride. We can’t have anything without them trying to get in.

So I took issue with this flog elsewhere and my friend redirected me to this thread which I had no idea existed but was more along the lines of the way I’m thinking.

I have literally seen the outline of this dude’s package more than I’ve seen my own partners. Given this is for a swimwear brand whose customers are mainly middle class women with daughters it was

I was also disgusted that this ambassadorship was given on the cusp of IWD. Someone I know pointed out to me that it coincided with Pride Month yet for a brand that has never featured a man except as a background accessory they couldn’t manage to find one beach/pool going les for the end of Pride Month/IWD? Hmmmm.

Before reading this thread I never thought of myself as a TERF because the transwomen i know are very low key, conservative and don’t pretend they know what it’s like to be a woman. But I’ve just had enough with people like this guy who claim to be both non binary and trans (how does that work?)

How a guy who looks like owner of my local kebab shop claims to not identify as a bloke because he gets free clothes to wear from womens brands does my head in. I feel like I’m living in bizarro world.

Not confirmed but just read on Twitter that Jess Phillips was given a list of the names of murdered women to read out in the parliamentary debate on IWD and she took it upon herself to add the name of Briana Ghey. The death of Briana is tragic but we don't know the circumstances and it did NOT belong on that list. Shame on her.

Been reading different accounts on IWD and what it means to be a woman. Sick of reading about our ‘identity’ as women. What about those of us that don’t have a ‘gender identity’? Who is representing us? For a group that is so gung ho about respecting identities, where is the respect for those of us who are just women just because we’re born that way? No gender identity here.

If they used a les they would lose the performative impact because she would just be a Women on IWD, there would be no obvious tell that she was a les whereas using a TiM ticks the performative box nicely as everyone knows it's a TiM because they never pass. As tragic as it is, it is actually quite funny that that is the case.

You’re lucky. My 11yo woke up with horrendous cramps this morning and was yelling at me to help her.

But in answer to your question, there is no research because women’s health is low priority, women’s pain is all in their head (especially if the pain is coming from organs that men don’t have). That’s why gynae procedures are done with no pain relief. If men had contraceptive coils forced into their bodies it would be done under general anaesthetic. Actually, if men needed coils, coils would never have been put into use on the grounds of being too brutal and deleterious to well-being.

Just yesterday on social media I saw a woman tell an anecdote that, as a doctor was giving her stitches after giving birth, she complained of pain but he said it was only “pressure” because her epidural hadn’t worn off. Then when he’d finished, she got out of bed to prove that it had. That’s women’s health in a nutshell.

I had this! I had to have manual removal of the placenta - a hideous, traumatic, barbaric procedure which is exactly as it sounds…a doctor elbow deep in my uterus scraping out the placenta. The spinal block didn’t work and I could feel it all - I was in so much pain I was vomiting over the side of the operating table and eventually I passed out. But the (female, I’m afraid) doctor completely refused to believe me and said ‘it’s just pressure’.
