Bit gutted yesterday, walking through town and Labour were canvassing. I was desperate for them to approach me so I could tell them what I thought of their Trans policy but sadly I didn't get approached. If I see them again I'll loiter. Given that this was near where Kier Starmer grew up it would be fun

Mary Whitehouse is often ridiculed, but she was on the money about the eventual pornification of our culture (I disagree with her views on homosexuality). I haven't listened to this yet, but Samira Ahmed is very thorough and thoughtful in her work.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0015411

The BBC news article on celebrity surrogacy is absolutely grim. I really hope the lid has been lifted on this barbaric practice, despite all the propaganda that is being churned out.
My issue with Whitehouse is that it was her way or the highway. She decided that certain things were "obscene" and, therefore, should be banned for everyone. She was seemingly motivated mostly by her religion which was effectively a way of enforcing her beliefs on the nation.

I mean, she even took issue with Doctor Who of all things! Now I appreciate she was against certain material that most people would agree is obscene, but she took it too far in my opinion.

And, like you say, she was homophobic. She thought homosexuality was caused by abnormal parental sex during pregnancy or just after and she also said that being gay was "like having acne: 'Psychiatric literature proves that 60 per cent of homosexuals who go for treatment get completely cured'". I mean, that sums it up for me!

I agree about Whitehouse. She was an unbearable puritan who saw filth everywhere. And her views on homosexuality were frankly bizarre at best, and abhorrent at worst.

It doesn’t mean she was necessarily wrong in general though. I like the odd porn …. exploration …. as much as the next guy but jeez in the privacy of my own home, when alone, and with hurried deletion of browsing history when I‘m err “finished”. I really don’t care if scat is your thing. I just really really don’t want to know about it, and if you think that it’s a badge of honour you have a warped definition of honour, and I‘m not going to even ask where your badge has been.

Some things just ain’t meant for sharing. There is such a thing as too much.

Yeah I sometimes wonder what motivated her. I think it was her granddaughter in that radio programme who said Mary W liked "drama" and maybe that was it. Plus her religion was a factor, too.

I think she did have points about certain content, but most of her objections were over the top. The classic "I think this one thing and want to apply it to everything" mistake.

She may have been over the top but look at how much boundaries have been chipped away over the last 30 years. It feels like there are no boundaries anymore when it comes to the public consumption of sex.

Got about 10% left in my book and the twist just revealed itself. The "man" they were looking for for multiple murders is actually an intersex man (his mum when pregnant was told she was having twin girls and when he was born he had a penis and a womb and decision made to operate and socialise him as a boy - born in 80s and it does state this wouldn't happen now) he has dissociative personality disorder who is living as a woman and it's the woman who is driving the killings.

Haven't finished yet but once I have it will be interesting to see if the reviews call the author a transphobe or not, bearing in mind one of JKRs books was flooded with 1 star reviews for having a character that was a man in a dress (even though it was such a tiny part). However I expect the abuse is reserved for JKR.

Well yes, it's definitely too easy for children to get hold of porn. I don't have children but if I did, I certainly wouldn't let them go on iPads or give them phones when they're too young for them.

Has anyone ran into men with my misogynistic or sexist views who say that they have done a lot of research and read a lot of studies and all support their point of view as part of their argument? It feels like an argument based on “this person won’t disagree with me because I’m so educated” which is awfully tiring to deal with and I’m wondering whether I’m just very unlucky with the guys I meet or whether this is a tactic that’s being fed down from some online culture

Not about gender but about appropriate behaviour and you call me Mary Whitehouse if you want!
First time i watched junior bake off.
Harry Hill is rubbish with children! A few adult "ha ha" comments made (not sexual just not right for children). Eg One lad loves science and blowing up things in experiments, Harry asks him if he bought the manual of the dark Web, the 12 year old boy looked shocked and confused at the same time..it's not funny when adults make jokes that leave kids confused and foolish, clueless how they should correctly behave it's a patronising and a tip of power.

Maybe I should move the above to the rant of the day thread!

On topic, Sam Smith on Graham Norton, looks like a twit, and BTW Sam (in case he reads here ;)) the reason dates "friend zone" you is because they don't fancy your entitled personality!

I found this sometimes in certain circles (techy middle-class neckbeards who are into social justice but enjoy kicking women under the table). It's a losing battle, I just dropped the rope with them. I don't waste any of my time trying to discuss, debate or convince men, particularly those with misogynistic views, as they only listen to the opinions of those who they respect i.e., other men.

Trigger warning - at the start it may seem they are making light of Adam Bryson and what he done but a few mins in shows its clear they are showing the absurd way this was handled.

Konstantin was on BBC newsnight on Thursday which he mentions at the end and he wanted to discuss this topic but the BBC vetoed it as there was no LGBT on the panel.

Triggernometry is great. The first time KJK was on there they were both pretty pro-trans and subsequently changed their views. Got a real soft spot for Konstantin.

I feel like half of non-binary people are just low self esteem people who aren't conventionally attractive and thus construct an entire persona and image around their unattractiveness to feel important.

Just be a bleeping goth or a mosher like the rest of us were for duck's sake.

Exactly this. It’s like who can be the most repulsive. With their weird undercuts or small boy from the early 90s haircuts 😅

Also the women who say they are nb or ’gender nonconforming’ (major eye roll) where they all dress in plain colour T-shirts- white, black, grey or brown, must be boxy so as not to show any smidgen of a chest, mens trousers or chinos, the more shapeless the better, and clunky big horrible flat shoes. They think they are so individual but they all look the same. Trying to make themselves look as uninteresting and drab as possible. I wouldn’t judge anyone dressing like this (or dressing in any way), but it’s the nb and GNC label they give themselves, thinking they are so special and different. Be a woman and wear whatever the hell you like but don’t tell me a plain white tshirt means you’re not really a woman Jenny.

I was thinking about this today and came to the same conclusion. I think its why so many of these men use little cutesy anime girls as their avatars. Their perception of self is so warped.
