I think TikTok has been bad for this but ultimately it was spreading on YT and Instagram and Reddit long before TikTok.
I think its come from America, its culture of consumerism and individuality, and health system based on ability to pay. Its ideological roots are western post-modernism. Russian bots could be somewhere in the mix, but more to stir a pot that's already stirring and tbh I've not seen any direct evidence of this.
Im not sure why you skipped to that particular part of the video but I did skip back several minutes before that to try and find a lead up to the “define woman” question but couldn’t find that part. I did however see the part about the nominee differentiating between producers of “child pornohraphy” and collectors of “child pornography” and her apparent quote “it is a mistake to assume that child pornography offenders are paedophiles” which has failed to make me see her in any better of a light than the other video.
I am a bit suspicious of the whole trans movement especially MTF. The trans people I have seen have been overly obsessed with makeup , heels , lingerie , bras and acting oversexualised. They are obsessed with men and getting their approval. They dress like the stereotypical sex worker on the street corner , they have no interest in what it actually means to be female. It seems like fetishism and a bit pervy.

Yes I was going to say this, I think the roots of identity politics in general are in academic postmodernism (which I believe actually originates from Western Europe, particularly France). Continental philosophers and sociologists were arguing things like "science as a concept fundamentally privileges masculinity and reality is entirely subjective" long before social media and Russian bots were invented, and while most of them were heavily influenced by leftist values, the ideas didn't grow directly out of then-communist states. Of course division in the West benefits modern Russia and China, and they're probably thrilled to see this issue polarising the US, and might even have jumped on the opportunity to stir things up even more. But the majority of it is our own homegrown ridiculousness.
