I am also concerned for the young girls being sucked into the easy peasy way to deal with any gender incongruity which has led to a doubling of female to male transitions over the age of the internet.

I doubt that is unconnected. It must be worringly easy to see trans as the new in thing and a way out of whatever issues these girls have that might just be temporary and could be resolved less drastically and surely have to be regarded as the most likely outcome. So caution and care and time is needed not fast tracking change becase it is 'cruel' not to do and leaving it up to everyone to decide for themselves is the way of the day?

This looks like all round a social catastrophe waiting to happen. We should not be sleepwalking into any of this with girls who realise too late testosterone has ruined their bodies or an army of later aged transitioners who will leave a trail of damaged familes they have happily raised whilst repressing their issues for decades but which this fredom to do what you choose willentice into doing what they would never have done when it was harder to bypass gatekeeping.

We seem to have learnt so little from the past. And, yes, I know this is a new age and I accept I am out of touch ad maybe we should move on into new freedoms. But to ignore these lessons today may lead to tragedies tomorrow.

We owe it to everyone not to simply undo the safeguards just because the ones who want those safeguards to disappear say so.. I think there are enouigh grounds for asking if they have an ulterior motive for wanting this.
I completely agree. As a 13-14 year old teenage girl I would have given anything to be a boy. Now I’m a late 30’s female and very happy after a few years of therapy. The reason I wanted to be a boy, and made myself not look feminine was so I wouldn’t be attractive to be sexual abuser. There were far deeper things happening. I’m scared now that if I was a teenage girl now, would I be on puberty blockers? Or would the actual issues be investigated?

Trixiebum - sorry to hear that. Must have been difficuilt and yes it is impossible for anyone not entirely sefish to be unemotive about such things. We do have to look beyond our needs and consider that we live our lives alongside others who mght be innocently impacted.

We decided very early what to do about my brothers family when they were at school in the 80s. All born wellafter my transition so never known anything different. We would not explain anything until they were 18. Unfortunately someone outed me tothe press by accessing my birth certificate and selling it to a tabloid so we had under 24 hours before anyone mght have seen that at school to explain to them. Which was a big deal to do to any kid in those days when trans was barely visible to adults let alone children.

They were both very good about it and the only thing the youngest wanted to know was - will you still be my aunty? I told her I would be whatever she wanted. She skipped off and that was that.

But this is one reason why I am fairly protective of the GRA for transsexuals as it was partly created to prevent that kind of ease of outing. Though it would never stop a determined searcher I guess with today's social media. With transexuals there are often innocents impacted by the events and outing someone because you disagree with them can miss that consequence.

I am long since past the point where this press story largely made up anyway - tand he origin of which I was never allowed to learn - bothers me. But it could have impacted those young lives - especially in todays social meda spreading like wildfire era - and it is never as simple as silence being an attempt to deceive when others are involved whom it can hurt.

That little girl is long married with three kids of her own. Happily with their children we are getting to tell them when old enough and very glad that we waited as one of them was already by then visibly les and a couple of years ago married her partner. They are happily settled and no trans thoughts ever enteted their heads. They know what they are.

But had I been out there speaking about trans this, that and the other and they were getting exposed to this from early years before their own sexuality or gender identity or whatever it is today was fully formed it might have been impacted.

Either way we did what we thought was right as a family.

So there can be other ways to look at these things beyond that livng quietly being equivocal of hiding the truth in order to deceive. We do not live our lives in a vacuum and my family have always been one that worked together through any problems to try to do the best for all.

I benefited fron that six decades ago and - though it is much harder these days - I see why it matters to be able to handle this without the narrative being in the hands of strangers.

I’m so sorry you were outed but it’s wonderful your family supported you. It sounds like you have a wonderful warm, caring family. I’m sorry for the loss of your husband too x

I have pictures of Monty pre-transition. I’ll post them if it’s allowed. They were posted online by Monty himself, even though he likes to whine about them being “leaked” like nudes 🙄 he’s still tagged in said photos on Facebook, ffs.

I know a TIM who has a love/hate friendship with Monty and he once complained about how privileged Monty is, going off on holidays all the time and having those surgeries. Nothing poor or oppressed about him at all. Massive misogynistic scumbag and loves to harrass women like JK Rowling, Kathleen Stock and Emma Hilton on Twitter.
Just my opinion but if the pictures are on the person's social media its fine to link however if its a case that they where saved a while back then no....stress its just my take on it btw.

Was so happy to see an advert from the Scottish government urging pregnant women to get vaccinated. There was no shying away from the use of the word women. Shame they couldn’t do the same with the one about period shaming though. That’s still annoying me!

Shame they could not allow unvaccinated onto IVF

Speaking of surrogacy a few pages ago....just saw this.

I spotted that earlier today too. And they've since split up again... Wild that they thought it was a good idea to bring another child into the world. I read in another article that Grimes apparently experienced various complications during pregnancy - but I guess it's OK to pay a surrogate to carry a child so you can wash your hands of it. It's all complete narcissism.

Poor celebs, always with complications which means they don’t want to can’t possibly be pregnant again. Pregnancy is hard. Very few women breeze through the entire thing feeling wonderful and then sneeze the baby out at the end. The physical and mental toll of pregnancy is immense.

But hey, isn’t it wonderful that rich people can pay poor women to do it for them.

This is his EIGHTH child. And Grimes said they're going to have at least another one or two? I really cannot with rich people.

If transwomen are women, are women transwomen? 🧐

Joking aside, why the insistence on this being true? Why can’t transwomen be transwomen, with their unique struggles and concerns? Why can’t transmen be transmen, again with their specific set of needs and attributes?

Like “born in the wrong body”, TWAW and TMAM are articles of faith that have no place in a secular society.

So no debate then. Just a re-education of we non believers. Perhaps later on being sent to gulags if we still refuse to believe.

Keir, if your starting point is TWAW, you have already reached the end goal of the argument. Not that my opinion matters, I resigned my life long membership of the party over this. You are not going to win me back with a starting point I can never agree with.

So TWAW no difference what so ever.

Approximately 300,000 thousand years of humans (homo sapiens) requiring a women (XX chromosomes) and a man (XY chromosomes) to procreate, all those years.

If only we'd had Sir Keir Starmer to inform us that TWAW sooner, there would have been no need for surrogacy, donor eggs or sperm for same sex couples wanting children they could have just self ID'd as trans and a rainbow unicorn would have magically made a miracle happen.

I feel this too often about Labour politicians - such a disappointment. Swayed by the latest lobby group - no backbone or actual ideals. How can the maths work? Far more people are women than buy into gender ideology. How does that voting maths work? I guess it’s pandering to the young who drive all this on social media, but they are fickle and the next fashionable cause is not far off. Once all the olds are talking about TWAW and being non-binary it will not be cool any more.

Back to discussion on the GRA and older transsexual culture versus modern transgender culture: when the GRA was originally brought in and created a situation of legal fiction, the number of people using it would have been so small that the safeguarding risks to society wouldn't necessarily have been substantial. Especially when, in the case of males, the access to the legal fiction required the op, then that again reduces some of the safeguarding risks.

The problem now is the numbers have grown so substantially that the risks of allowing and making a legal fiction easier have changed.

Also an interesting point, I believe the GRA was mostly brought in as a way of allowing same-sex marriage between a male and a trans male. With equal marriage now in law, and as long as a belief in and expression of a personal gender identity is protected by the Equality Act, do we need to bring in the legal fiction?

I’m interested to know the answer to this as well. Are Labour going after the younger vote and are mistaking the echo chamber of Twitter as the real world? If Twitter was any sort of representation of how people voted, Corbyn would PM and we’d still be in the EU. Likes on Twitter for saying that TWAW is not the same as votes in an election, but even so, there are more dissenting voices than ever before tweeting against this guff. Then again, I sometimes think it’s easier for Labour to write off the entire country as bigots and fascists than look at their own policies and wonder if it’s them.
