Tommy knocks me sick tbh. He can be feminine but he just looks ridiculous acting like he’s a woman. Have you seen his massive bleeping feet, hands and jawline? It’s ridiculous and I don’t have sympathy for him. Internalised homophobia is hard but you don’t get to pretend to be a woman so it’s easier. He lives in America, not Iran, ffs.

I think it's partly Hollywood just chasing the money (but a few years too late). Even though this debate has been going on for decades, I think Trump's election was a big turning point. Suddenly politics became more polarised than ever before, and a lot of people made 'I hate Trump' their core personality trait, in a similar way that some people here made either Brexiteer or Remainer their core personality trait.
Then, when you had Trump vs trans people in the military, everything just ramped up a huge amount. Suddenly, if you wanted to prove you were against Trump, you had to be pro-trans. Especially for younger people, which is probably the demographic that is a) pitching movies and b) that Hollywood wants to get money from.
There has also been a lot of debate over the past few years about whether Hollywood is inclusive enough in terms of race, and I think that has made them more inclined to approve projects that they consider to have 'marginalised' (aka trans) people in.
Always the way, they can look feminine when photographed alone, particularly the very wealthy ones who can afford the luxury of cosmetic surgery, good makeup, hair removal, wigs, etc, but the second you see them photographed with women, or see their mannerisms on film, it is almost always immediately clear they have the mannerisms of an effeminate gay man at best, at worst a big bloke role-playing stereotypical coquettish femininity.
This is really spot on and I'm seeing this happen elsewhere too.

This year's US season has four trans women competing - two of them were already "out" as trans women and had either transitioned or were in the process. Two came out during the season. There have been a couple of trans contestants in the past (you could probably count them on one hand) but this seems like a trend. Attention seeking, even. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about it makes me feel uneasy. Like you're already dressing up as a woman. And now you're doing this as a trans woman? Make it make sense
This is from a couple of years ago and is well worth a watch to see the general pressure on female athletes from male coaches and training staff. She ended up becoming ill both physically and mentally. I wonder if you'll see some female athletes (I'm thinking running, swimming and gymnastics) being pressured into mastectomies by coaches/sponsors in the future to make them lighter and faster.This is really spot on and I'm seeing this happen elsewhere too.

And who can blame them when the movement talks about women just being "feminine" energy and all that rit.On the UK vs The World series, I think one of the queens mentioned that having people pay more attention to you and seem to prefer you in drag can really duck with your perceptions, especially during the lows that come after shows. It's not the first time I've heard this from drag queens. Suppose that could be a contributing factor.

I'm not really sure how any woman can watch drag race. Men, usually gay, dressing up as caricatures of over sexualised women and putting women down because they want to elevate themselves above women in straight men's eyes. It's disgusting. I agree entirely, I think I said a few threads back how, even as a fairly young girl, I was uncomfortable with drag. This was in the days when it was quite tame, fool Emery, Danny La Rue, etc. Now it’s really awful. Misogynistic caricatures of ‘women’, catty, witchy, piss taking and just generally unpleasant. Why it has been allowed to be pushed into mainstream tv I’ll never know.
Hunter Schafer, who acts in Eurphoria is a trans model. It was the preferred look in the 90s, Kate Moss, heroin chic and all those tall super slender young teenage models because the often gay male designers preferred the way the clothes looked on bodies with no womanly shape. This was for a trans specific clothing company but I wonder how long it'll be before designers start replacing young female models with male trans/nb ones - after all, they don't have to worry about them developing those pesky breasts and hips that make female models unemployable.

I think RuPaul absolute hates it but has had to swerve straight in because of being called transphobic in the past and risking being cancelled. I have watched a lot of drag race and I see the misogyny in how they caricature women, the epithet ‘fishy’ absolutely makes me furious. The queens I enjoyed watching were very comfortable with themselves as gay men when not in drag. The older ones who do the shows and mc and pageants (I had no clue about drag pageants) and know the history of drag acts. Sasha Velour was my favourite winner. The younger ones who increasingly come from YouTube and Instagram for doing makeup and are really just witchy and have no talent or humour I have no time for.
I’ve definitely gone off it the more I see that being a woman is actually under threat, 5 years ago it did not feel as aggressive towards women because they were all very clear about dressing in drag not trying to be actual women. They are all 8 ft tall in wigs and heels - it’s insane.
