really? I haven't seen this film but if this is so this is just awful
I don't think it was in the film, but I remember reading it. It's on Wikipedia as cause of death. Looks like they went through all those surgeries and them gambled on a uterus transfer.

Call me selfish but as a woman who’s had a fair share of arguments to do with woman’s health problems. I’d much rather they focused on making woman’s health care less of a battle and lost the attitude of “ it’s something you’ll have to deal with” before they start putting uteruses in men.
this would be logical of course, but women are never the priority. Instead of 50%ish of the population with myriad health concerns let's make scientists focus on something that affects a tiny minority and is in no way a necessity

I saw someone mentioned the programme Womanhood in a previous thread. I came across the end of it by chance tonight, Suzi Ruffell came across as a Twitter stereotype and quite infuriating.

She initially expressed her concern about going to meet a woman that believed in 'cis' :cautious: only woman's spaces, God forbid, and whether she should be platforming such 'hateful' views. Then she stated that trans and non binary people are just trying to live their lives and it shouldn't be a debate.

Can't stand it when people frame those concerned about this topic as equal to Hitler who question peoples' right to exist, it's so disingenuous.

I just watched one of those tit Facebook videos where they interviewed twin sisters and one of them is a trans man now. Apparently from being kids the girl loved pink and wore dresses but the other one always wanted to wear boys clothes and hated pink. This is what it keeps coming back to and drives me insane. I spend my life telling my son that pink is for anyone, it’s not a girl’s colour. It’s just a colour. Dolls are not a girls toy, it’s a toy that girls AND boys can play with. It’s so regressive all this trans stuff and reduces us all to stereotypes. Looked at the comments and it’s all ‘well done for living your truth!’ 🤮 yeah well done for having a mental illness steeped in misogyny that has made you mutilate your body and everyone is now congratulating you. Bizarre world we’re living in.

I can hardly comment on the uterus transplant crap, it makes me feel physically ill. It will never happen and is totally grotesque to even think about it. TRAs bring it up to wind up women, which to be honest they have been successful in doing with me 😅

So this tweet was going around Twitter yesterday as someone had reposted it: View attachment 889216
In the comments section of the account that reposted it (a GC account) people were asking if it was possible and someone shared this link
Now a lot of the scientific parts go over me but what I found quite worrying was in these two paragraphs. That uterine transplants are possible but require dead women to donate, that animal studies will need to be carried out to see if this will work and that the reproductive ‘aspirations’ of M2F may make it become legally and ethically unfeasible to deny them this. At the start they state that gender dysphoria affects between 0.5 and 1.4% of adult males.
View attachment 889223View attachment 889224Please let me know if I’ve read these parts wrong but it all feels very Frankenstein to me? I think many people realise that animal testing is a necessary evil for medical advancement but chopping up and mutilating the animals so men can change their biology is really worrying. Plus the need for female donors - are we going to have to put down that we don’t want our reproductive organs used which I can see a lot of women doing. I don’t wish my organs to co sign this freak show. But that will mean women will miss out (quelle surprise!) on organ donation that could potentially help them. As for the comment that this is something we might have to eventually accept due to ethical and legal reasons - why, when it only effects 0.5 and 1.4% of adult males?
(I don’t know if the 0.5 and 1.4% of adult males is worldwide or American based or from another country. I think the paper is as recent as 2019 but again not 100% sure)
There's a response to this linked in the article which is a bit more cautious about the ethical issues around this so at least there's that: https://obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/1471-0528.15482

I'm a scientist myself so just a comment on how papers are published: journals have an "impact factor" which is generally used to denote journals that are more "important" than others or have more influence, with a higher IF having more prestige and being tougher to get published in. The original paper linked is in BJOG with an IF of 6.531.
For reference, the top science journals Nature and Science have 17 and 41. The highest rated journal now is 435.

Just because something is published in a scientific journal doesn't necessarily mean that it's "good science" or will have much influence on the area of research so I wouldn't take much from this one paper.

(p.s. Obviously impact factor is a bit more complicated that this and has been criticised but just my 2 cents)

I used to work in the field (ish) and was familiar with impact factors etc, and didn’t realise that BJOG was rated so low… but you have to admit that it’s one of the most highly rated journals in the field of obs & gynae? Nature and Science are much more prestigious because they aren’t so niche.

I mean, I obviously hope this paper will be treated with the disdain it deserves, but it shouldn’t be in there in the first place. Male patients in BJOG? No. It’s bad enough that the U.K. midwifery journals are glorifying pregnant transmen.

Thank you for explaining this! Sorry if this is dim but does BJOG mean British Journal? So does that mean the percentages are British based?

I can’t find the tweet but a deluded TIM is upset because he took a pregnancy test and didn’t get the result he wanted. He was pre op too, I think 😂

Channel hopping last night and came across "Womanhood" bbc2. Shirley from strictly was chatting to a transwoman. The transwoman had been in a r-ship with her man partner for 4 years and only told him 9 months before the wedding that she was trans because she wanted to be married with him knowing!
Shirley asked didn't he ever know? Or guess during intimacy? The lady shut her down essentially saying it was offensive to ask her that question it's not about the genitals.

Sorry but she got a man to fall in love with her for 3/4 years and didn't tell him until after saying yes to his proposal. Wrong in my eyes

I was really shocked by this part too, it was a very reasonable question for her to ask to!

Her reaction was defensive, she knows she lied to her fiancé and she tactically washed it away with "inappropriate" question to ask spiel

So he's supposed to have gone out with a transwoman for years without knowing she used to have a rooster and balls?

That’s similar to what happened with NikkieTutorials I think. They didn’t tell their partner they were trans (I think they were engaged at this point) until someone threatened to reveal it.

It's really cruel, I think, to 'make' someone fall in love with you the person and then announce 'oh by the way I'm not the person you thought I was my genitals are the same as yours, and by the way I'm pretty ducked up by the whole thing'.

It’s got to the point with violence against women and girls that I’ve decided to just not read or watch the news anymore. I found myself driving to work crying while listening to it on the radio and decided for my own sanity I have to stop for a while. I feel like a total ostrich but can’t think of any other way to deal with it. Does anyone do anything that helps them to switch off?
