I haven't read past this post but my 16 year old has been professionally diagnosed recently and it's been such a relief for us all. Her dad is on the spectrum too, but we never picked up on it because it manifests so differently in girls (it wasn't even picked up in him til late). She was quite defensive at first but now she flies her neurodivergent flag proudly and after years of not really socialising because she was mentally exhausted from masking, she graduated yesterday from school with a shirt full of signatures and a gang of friends who understand her. She's even going to prom (in the most extra dress ever
). However you are feeling about it, it's so much better for everyone when they can understand you. After all, it's just a different way of seeing things. Sending all the love
