If Perez can get the sponsorship, I would guess he would be in. Also, if Haas wants cheaper engines, he might ask for Mick Schumacher......

I understand Russell is being kept in reserve for when Hamilton retires.....
Perez already has the sponsorship, has always come with Mexican money, $20m+.

I totally see that Russell is Hamilton's spiritual replacement, but surely you'd get him in the team sooner rather than later to bed in. Especially to be ready for 2022 new regs. Bottas has shown himself to be unable to compete against Hamilton properly over a season and is just a compliant No.2 he's safe, so I get it. But I don't like it. Ferrari, Red Bull even McLaren have put faith in their juniors and are reaping the rewards, Mercedes are just too safe.

Agree - Merc can’t witch if Williams drop Russell for Perez, if they really think George is the next big thing, they should’ve got him in the car for 2021, the regs aren’t changing next year, they’re comfortably the best team and would still wrap up the WDC/WCC with Ham/Rus

You can’t blame Williams for looking at Checo, he’s a great driver that brings in money. Most pay drivers aren’t anywhere near his level.

If I remember rightly George was confirmed at Williams when Frank/Claire were still in charge. Maybe new management have found a loophole, and that they don’t have to honour that decision?

i’ll be really upset to see george go if he does, considering how successful he was at the lower levels.

i’ve also heard today that ocon has been in talks with red bull/ alpha tauri and gasley has been talking to renault so that could be a plot twist...

I think I’d be disappointed if red bull finally look outside their driver program......and get Ocon!

Also, do we think Alonso has a veto at Renault (who are we kidding, of course he does  ) - would he reject Gasly coming to them?

Gasly to Renault would be a big surprise, I suppose it depends on Ocon's contract, how easily Renault can break it.

Perez is absolutely a driver any team would look at and we know Williams are stretched financially even with Dorilton taking over. Checo brings money and talent, perfect.

I'd not heard Ocon had been talking to Red Bull, bit interesting.

Somehow in all this latest part of silly season, Super Sub Nico Hulkenberg seems to have been forgotten, he isn't getting linked to seats. Though I have heard rumours that he has also spoken to Red Bull as well.

Red Bull desperately want Albon to come good though. Because he is British-Thai, and Red Bull has Thai shareholders. Problem is, that car is built to suit Max Verstappen, Riccardo saw the way the wind was blowing away from him and towards Max and so got out. But Max and Alex like a different style of car to perform and until Red Bull compromise the car design/set up to help Alex, it's never going to work.

Vandoorne had the same problems at McLaren with Alonso. A good driver, in a car that isn't suited to their style and against a really special driver. Because Vandoorne wasn't a bad driver, he was just in a donkey car, designed for Alonso's style and driving against Alonso. He could never win. McLaren basically bent over and spread themselves for Alonso and I really hated the team in those few years, because Alonso didn't deserve it.

Lets not forget that the 2nd red bull car has only scored one podium in the last 2 seasons!

Red Bull are really screwing themselves over by building the car for Max, yes he’s done great, but you can’t win the WCC with one car, you would struggle to win the WDC with Max too if he hasn’t got a decent teammate to back him up.

As you said, Danny Ric got out quick, and both Alex and Pierre looked poor in the RB, but look what he’s done in the Alpha!

Let’s be honest Max (and clan) arent the most welcoming of teammates and no doubt is enjoying the other garage is making him look like a God.

No surprise the two decent teammates he’s had (Danny and Carlos) both walked away before they got sucked in and made to look tit!

Yes, quite right. Benetton lost the WCC when Schumacher won the DWC. They changed that and got Johnny Herbert in and won it the next year.

Pierre Gasly has remained for Alpha Tauri for next season. I have a lot of time for him! He’s made great progress this year and the win was wonderful to watch.

Looking forward to Imola this weekend!

Gasly has definitely rebuilt himself brilliantly from the awful experience at Red Bull. Not his fault that went wrong. I think when you see the number of drivers ruined by the Red Bull programme, and recently by being let down as No. 2 to Verstappen being given cars designed entirely to suit Max's style not the other driver. They are all on a hiding to nothing. Pierre seems like a genuinely decent guy, deserved his win even if I was rooting for Carlos as a McLaren fan. Likely to be partnering Yuki Tsunoda for next year.

And I'm really obsessed with Pierre's eyes! 😍😍

There must be something about Red Bull drivers and their eyes. Because Carlos Sainz, former Red Bull programme driver - amazing eyes. Jaime Alguersuari from years back also had the most incredible eyes.

Yeah, everything about Red Bull seems toxic. Right to the top with Christian Horner and Helmut Marko. Not a pleasant environment for anyone coming in to the team.

Helmut especially, i remember listening to a podcast with Lando Norris and when he was in F3(???) he had a conversation with Helmut and the first thing Helmut said to Lando was “how heavy is your car?”
or something like that and lando basically said erm i’m not 100% maybe like 400? and helmut went “max would know” and shut the conversation down there and then so it just shows how much they love max there, it’s always max and the other driver, not both drivers as a team

Yeah, Helmut is a massive bleep. Proper wanking over Max Verstappen. In a way I feel sorry for Max, because he's got to not only deal with Helmut Marko and Christian Horner, he's also got his dad Jos who seems like an extremely pushy parent.

He's going to be as bad as Bernie Ecclestone before long for talking absolute rit and being toxic as anything.

Yeah it would explain a lot. He is under a lot of stress really when you think about it. It just doesn't do him any favours when he makes some of the comments he does on radio.

I went to the Belgian Grand Prix last year, and somehow my nephew got us sitting in the middle of a sea of Max fans. He crashed on the first lap, and they all got up and walked out. He could see people leaving, and I thought the pressure on him must be immense.....

yes that’s true, he has so many die hard fans. as someone who has been an athlete at a relatively high level (nowhere near these guys) and someone who studies sports psychology, he must be losing his mind with the amount of pressure

Max’s dad is a (insert strong word here) for abusing several partners. Hope Max turns out a lot better but his race temper concerns me.

I saw something on Twitter today about Max demanding Nico joins Red Bull. I know that RB are desperate to keep Max but how much of a say would he have?

Im sure him and his dad have some sort of veto on teammates.

But I would be surprised if Max wants Hulk to join the team, he would be a lot closer to Max, but then again, Nico has a good reputation and by beating him Max would increase his stock value...

...textbook narc behaviour!
