This is actually something most drivers do, with red flags as well. Because they can’t/don’t want to communicate on the radio they have a little sheet with last notes from the race engineer.

These flares are so bloody stupid. What’s the point of paying to see a race when all you can see is orange smoke

on a serious note though it’s coming over onto the track quite thickly
