I didn’t think of this - you’re right this house wasn’t built with central heating, but the bathroom has a radiator now, but maybe she just liked the carpet so kept it? It’s funny because we had a few weird patches of different plaster in the wall when we stripped the wallpaper back & wondered wtf it was, apparently every single room would have had a fireplace?! I can’t imagine how hot that would be?!I think carpet was often put in for general warmth in this country - when bathrooms weren’t heated and if no central heating was in a house. There used to be all manner of weird heaters in bathrooms once upon a time and not linked to a central heating system. You could also be right about it being there for safety. What was underneath the carpet?
My mother had a washable rug in our family bathroom when I was growing up, on a tiled floor. But we had hot air central heating.
Get some popcorn...Ahhh I’ve had to give up I’ve proper fucked that up but how gorgeous you all are
I need to go and Grunka, she’s back then I take it
When I was at school I had a friend who had (well her parents had...) not only a fluffy loo lid cover, but a fluffy seat cover So youput your bum on fluff when you went for a wee..or worse!Yes, the toilet mat was there to catch the pee drips!
my grandparent's had this awful kind of muted green coloured set in the house they had when I was little. And that weird wallpaper (no idea what it is called) that has like bubbles? in it, kind of almost like bubblewrap but less full. I vividly remember scratching at the bubbles. awful. My granny had a pink bathroom set... toilet, bath and sink. With a fluffy pink carpet, pink fluffy loo cover and pink fluffy rug! And it stank of talcum powder She was a divorcee too so maybe living her 70s glam fantasy out as best she could in a small 2 bed mid terrace
I'm glad, we, as a wider society, have moved on from this interior design nonsense.
Omg my parents had a green set til I was well into my teens because they didn't want to renovate (don't worry I'm not pretending to be a street urchin, they just prefered to spend the money going on holiday to Italy lol) and it was foul!!! We also had that textured wallpaper which you could pick off?!my grandparent's had this awful kind of muted green coloured set in the house they had when I was little. 100% it will, it's like the awful trend of 80s/90s clothes re-occuring, it'll be the new hipster thing along with carpets in bathroomsOmg my parents had a green set til I was well into my teens because they didn't want to renovate (don't worry I'm not pretending to be a street urchin, they just prefered to spend the money going on holiday to Italy lol) and it was foul!!! I wonder if it will go full circle and you'll see influencers peddling avocado sets from Arighi Bianchi's (alongside crushed velvet sofas).
avocado! Bathroom, we bought a house in the 80's autumn gold, it was callled, basic a shade of brownOmg my parents had a green set til I was well into my teens because they didn't want to renovate (don't worry I'm not pretending to be a street urchin, they just prefered to spend the money going on holiday to Italy lol) and it was foul!!! Not fully caught up but reminded me of my friend who viewed her flat a few times ahead of moving in only to realise (once moved in) none of the rooms bar the kitchen had ceiling lights - as in bare ceiling with no fixtures in place! She relied on uplighters/lamps for an age as she slowly got them installed. The electrician who came to do the work couldn’t understand why you wouldn’t install ceiling lights as standard, or the fixtures at least.IT DID! How did you know?! We changed that quickly & cheaply when we got the hall floor done, was this a thing?! She was elderly and had mobility issues so I always assumed her kids put it in to prevent slipping, as wet tiles are actually quite dangerous, I know someone whose dad died in a freak accident slipping on a wet tiled floor and hitting his head on their sink, isn’t that awful. Not good for the anxiety fraus is it, sorry guys that’s actually made me feel a bit squiggly
We didn’t even realise it until we moved in, and we’d been to the house twice?!!
Is it bad I really like the blue one?! With a nice wallpaper that would be so fun!@heretoreaditall2019 I found these on eBay.
I'm waiting a knock on the door from Interpol as we speak.I’ve been absent from the threads for the past few days, but what the bloody hell has been going on over on the MT? Thank goodness for @Pocahontas’ catch ups on the first page of the new threads there; there’s no way I could Grunka through everything. I see JM is being as batshit as ever though. She’s still talking about bullying and court cases I see.
I like the blue one too. A friend had a similar one in a flat in S. Kensington that she was renting. I’ve seen a really pretty old pale yellow suite in a dentist’s surgery near Wimpole Street. Is it bad I really like the blue one?! With a nice wallpaper that would be so fun!
Why did anyone ever design tiles & a bath the colour of blood tho...
We're only 20 years down the line from Changing Rooms and some of it really didn't age well...My granny had a pink bathroom set... toilet, bath and sink. omg that one with the 2tone toilet seat!! Jealous of a bathroom with a bidet though, I don;t get why so many other countries have them and the UK does not@heretoreaditall2019 I found these on eBay.
Most of changing rooms didn't look good when it was made, god knows now (albeit no way all of that cheap MDF would even be functional now). I wish they'd bring it back, I loved the episodes where the friends were too angry at the crappy results to meet at the endWe're only 20 years down the line from Changing Rooms and some of it really didn't age well...
