Does anyone know of a bitter drink that’s easy to get in the uk- of the type of italian chinotto drink or Maltese kinnie? I know I can get these on amazon or specialist sites but is there anything in the normal supermarkets?

i tried the shloer non alcoholic supposedly aperol spritz copy but it was too sweet and not enough flavour.
I've never had anything that came close to Kinnie (and I'm quite happy to keep it that way - definitely an acquired taste!).

Omg yeah the date!! When is it @BeautifulTrauma? I really hope it goes well. I love romance and love and happy times so much.

I watched a lovely little film called Benjamin, written by Simon Amstell. My friend recommended it because I fancy Colin Morgan but oh it was so sweet and funny. I like Simon Amstell a lot.

Just making the roast potatoes for my TV snack 😂😂
Thank you @GrunkaLunka and everyone else who has wished me luck!

It’s quite weird as one of the first things we talked about and bonded over was us starting to use the Tattle forums, so I feel like she’s been there from the moment I opened my eyes about JM and her ways. And I get to tell her how annoyed I am about JM and she listens and takes it on board - it’s awesome! Doesn’t use the forums now though, she’s not one to go looking for trouble.

The activity is a very random one, but because we met on Tinder just as the country was closing down, we said when things reopen we wanted to do something neither of us had done before so we decided our first date would be axe throwing - I checked and I can’t take JM’s picture to put on the target unfortunately! It’s early evening on Saturday and then we’ll go for a drink in town or something.

Thank you everyone, it means the world to me to have your support. I’m really excited, and trying not to get ahead of myself but if she’s as cool in person as she is via texting then I’ve got myself a great girlfriend. I will report back on Sunday!

Have you tried the Fever Tree blood orange soda? Quite bitter, really refreshing.

I am v basic but all these weird new Cadbury’s flavours freak me out! Why would you want a jelly bean in chocolate? I say new they’ve been at it for years, did anyone else notice the epidemic where they tried to cut costs so didn’t do whole nut anymore? Just chopped? I think they went back on that decision, I barely buy it anymore it sort of tastes weird now?

Just got back from my evening walk, doing a mini Chicago town pizza as a late night booster as I’m nil by mouth from 6am tomoz (waking up at 5.30 to have a cereal bar that’s on my bedside table). Anxiety doing okay.

Sorry I was really negative about recruiters loool I’ve had really good experiences being placed by them but working with them to find people is a nightmare, they’d lie about anything and get really ratty when you say no! Like some things aren’t subjective hun... It is a bit #wolfofwallstreet as an industry loool
Good luck hope all goes well

Thank you for all the well wishes cabal!

I really miss the shape of the old cadbury...?! Like when it was solid squares of chocolate. It does not taste the same anymore and it saddens me.

Didn’t it get sold to an American company and that’s when god awful changes started occurring?

Gonna say it.. galaxy > cadbury
I kinda agree Galaxy Caramel beats Caramel hands down I think.

omg 100% this!! I swear the shape of things influences the taste? I love choc buttons and the feeling of the text on the bottom of them on your tongue, the old cubes were so much nicer to bite into! I don’t like the weird curvy thing they’re doing now 😤

These plates came with my husband, they used to be his nan's! So genuine retro 😂
I love your plates 💗

Was watching a show set in the late 60s the other day, and saw the set my grandma had (I'm an 80s baby, but they were not people who got rid of things!) There was something oddly comforting about seeing them.

And @BeautifulTrauma we're all rooting for you! Axe throwing sounds really fun, I hope it all goes well for you! 😃

On the galaxy discussion - I'm still missing the galaxy truffle ! It was the best celebration chocolate by a mile

Thank you @Spoonfulofjam and others for bringing up Selling Sunset - I started watching and couldn't stop, it's so entertaining!

If I can give a recommendation back, it would be The Lunchbox. Wonderful film with the late, great Irrfan Khan.

It definitely does! It's been shown in studies - I think it's to do with it affecting the speed at which the molecules break down in your mouth.

Totally agree, it’s the same with pasta , there are some shapes I hate even though I generally love pasta !

That wasn't my intention by invoking a hyperbolic Jackie style verbosity... but seeing as you mention it, I DO have a book out next year - subscribe to my patreon for a special discount 🤣
I love your writing mate, however I am still waiting for your freebie Nutribullet ;)

I'm really not a great fan of conchiglie. Not sure why but seems a lot of people feel the same as during lockdown if there were any pasta left on shelves it was that one 😂

Galaxy definitely superior to Cadbury, especially the caramels.

I've just woken from a very deep sleep, having dosed myself up on valerian tea before bed. Going to now stagger into the kitchen and make some caffeinated tea to wake me back up 😂

Mouse update- it's a rat. I'm at work (overnight job) and Mr B just saw it trying to get in through the locked cat flap. Fucker.

(Rat, not Mr B, he's lovely).
Not caught up, but I have remembered my own rat story. It is both grim and not very reassuring for people who don't like to think about rats very much. I am pretty relaxed about most creatures but not overly keen on rats, I think reading 1984 at a formative age wasn't helpful with that.

You have to tell us now, Flumps!

I'm up and dressed uncharacteristically early (please don't hate me working folks) cos I'm off to see my fam today. Bonus lovely train journey and I get a double seat all to myself! Will I be throwing strops at LNER staff and starting a twitter pile on?

SHAN'T.

@Nottonightbabe and @Readingismyhobby thank you both - much preferring the vibe on here right now. The JM threads are getting very dark - I think the kitten business was when it started to turn. Obvs I mean the subject matter, not the folk posting.

Aww. Poor little shells, but I agree with you. I think they just inevitably go too floppy. I feel they should be nice for their sauce catching potential, but they just aren't somehow.

Yes, they were bought by Kraft in 2010, which then split into Mondelez and Kraft Foods, Cadbury stayed with Mondelez and I think complaints about the recipe started around then. Mondelez said the 'basic recipe' hadn't changed, but I am not sure that is the same as saying nothing has changed, possibly quantities of ingredients or production methods.

Cadbury's story is pretty interesting, as it started as something of a socially progressive project (Quaker led) and people saw the Kraft takeover as a selling out, but most industry observers would argue that the business model had already substantively changed in (I think) the 60s when they merged with Schweppes and became Cadbury Schweppes. Lots of chopping and changing happened to the drinks arm of the business particularly, but also parts of the food business (acquisitions, divestments and partnerships) after that until the de-merger, in the 2000s, then eventually the sale to Kraft.

You have to tell us now, Flumps!
I will tell, but I will also hide behind a spoiler, it's not super horrible, but a little grim, and some people might be eating breakfast.

First off, apologies for those old enough to now have a UB40 earworm. There's really no excuse for my behaviour.

Ok, so I have slightly given away the ending here, but here goes....

So, in my old house, one morning I blearily got up and went to the loo. Flushed and suddenly the bathroom floor flooded with water. Grrr, thought I, what is that all about. Grim clear up occured, then I investigated further. Because of small bathroom and tightness for pipework I had a concertinaed u-bend, not made out of sturdy plastic, but much thinner plastic with wire reinforcement so it could bend as needed. This plastic had, I thought, worn over time and there were little holes in the bottom of it.

So off I went to B&Q, bought a replacement and spent an unpleasant day learning how to and eventually changing my u-bend pipe (thanks You Tube). Tested a few times with experimental flushes and generally felt v pleased with self. Then went to bed, repeated the bleary stumble to the loo the next morning. Flushed. Another flood.

What the actual duck? Inspected brand new u-bend. Holes again. Baffling. Looked closer. Realised holes looked, I don't know, chewed. Googled possible reasons. Learnt that rats will sometimes swim up u-bends. See here for info if you are strong of stomach.

Anyway, knew I had to change it, so disassembled existing setup before I headed to B&Q. Returned from B&Q. Made restorative coffee before tackling u-bend, while also wondering if I was going to spend the rest of my life replacing u bends on the daily and crying, or how much rat catchers cost. Suddenly heard scritchy, scratchy noises coming from kitchen. Entered kitchen to find bleeping massive rat (size poss exaggerated because of trauma) staring at me. Brief stand off, before it legged it past me, into the living room. Followed it in general horror type way, grabbing a mop (from clear up) on my way (not sure what I was planning to do with mop, just felt need for security I think). Rat scurried round my living room for a terrifying minute or so, then spotted open French doors, and disappeared out them with a swish of its tail, thankfully never to be seen again.

Thank you for coming to my rat talk. I hope you all can still sleep at night and go to the loo in peace.
