Flop pop acts from the 90s and 00s.

In my experience it was Jay that everyone I knew lusted after.

I absolutely loved Stop Sign Abs did after they broke up.
J refused to participate in The Big Reunion. There was bad blood between him and the other 4.

He gave his side of the story here: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/973877/...-of-the-story-after-boyband-bullying-bust-up/

J was actually my favourite band member. Abs came across well on the Big Reunion, seemed like a sweet guy.

Ah thank you for the link, I’ll watch it this weekend!

I really feeling for Kavana being in the closet. People forget that the 90s was still quite a homophobic time. I used to really fancy David Ross from Bad Boys Inc (another flop act mentioned here), and found an interview where he was explaining that he was in the closet at that time, and felt self-conscious about his mannerisms etc in case anyone would realise.
Just googling Kav and he was on The Voice in 2013 but didn't get through the blind audition

Daphne and Celeste were bottled off the stage at the Reading Festival, way back in 2000.

I was there somewhere in the crowd, watching the horror unfold. 😆
Me too! It was a great weekend. I was in the front row in the mosh pit for the Super Furry Animals.

Anyone remember Kele Le Roc??

Abz is currently on Celebs Go Dating. When he had his first meeting with one of the dating specialist, Anna, she told him that they had met before. She had been in a girl band and they had supported 5ive.

I remember Kele Le Roc, she was promoted a good bit but don't think she ever got a hit

I'm gonna count Dane Bowers solo career as a flop - ok he had the duet with VB, another Truesteppers collab which did well ... plus two top 10s on his own... but he got dropped before his album was released so must have underperformed vs expectations.

I actually like the song below, and the video is unintentionally hilarious. It's about his breakup with Katie Price.

You'd need to be about 40 to remember these two from the early 90s - Halo James and Big Fun.

This just played on the radio and I’d forgotten about it!

I love this song! Fun fact, as well as Kim Basinger it also features vocals from Ozzy Osbourne. But, there’s a version from the early 80s with a pre-fame Madonna singing!

Oooh I never knew about the Madonna version. Just reading one of the comments on YouTube and when Steve Silk Hurley remixed it in 1992 he took the original Ozzy Osbourne version and was going to add the vocal that Madonna did presumably from about 10 years earlier but she didn’t give her permission so that’s why they got Kim Basinger to do it instead

Oh wow! I’m not surprised they couldn’t get Madonna‘s permission by then, she was huge at that point.
It worked out well though, they still had a hit, and Kim Basigner fits the song so well. I prefer the Madonna version tbh though, I can’t remember how I found it but I’m glad it’s out there.

Apparently the remix with Madonna’s vocals did get accidentally released on the two-LP and double-cassette formats of compilation album Now Dance 92 entitled the 12-inch mix.

On the 12-inch and CD single formats of Was (Not Was)’s follow-up single, "Somewhere in America (There's a Street Named after My Dad)", there is a Dub Mix of "Shake Your Head" which uses several of Madonna's vocals.

You unearthing this Madonna version has sent me down this hole of detective work as I find things like this fascinating 😊

Was (not was) had a big hit with Walk the dinosaur in the 80s. Apparently they still occasionally release music, their last release was 2008.

Gonna check out the Madonna version when I have time.
