Not sure if it works on mobile the same way but on desktop type the @ and immediately start typing the person's username. A little dropdown will appear; you can click on the username from the dropdown list.

I was thinking the "hello world" crap was in the 1st aisle. That's why she just bought that, she couldn't get any further in the store.
