For such an obviously intelligent girl she has displayed a real streak of irresponsibility and selfishness throughout this entire pandemic. I'm beginning to wonder whether she is a bit of an arrogant narcissist. I hope not as I did genuinely like her when she was a YouTuber at least in her uni days anyway.
I'd say it's also sketchy she was somewhat sponsored by Linklaters since maybe it may seem unfair to other candidates and/or trainees and give an impression she receives some special treatment. At least it was very sketchy to me.
In overall I think she became very obnoxious after graduating and the moment she started all the posing and fake-deep monologues in her videos is when I stopped watching her really. That and the fact nowadays she only posts sth when she's sponsored.
I miss her casual vlogs, it was like a friend chatting to you. Now it feels like the videos only serve to bolster her ego - it’s like a smug (but also insecure) teacher talking to you.
Yup, a condescending substitute teacher trying to win over a class of kids, only she's cringe as fuck, everyone's generally much more knowledgeable than her about everything, and her finger is about two to six years away from the pulse of current trends.
Her new video's no different.
She offers up the opinion that Robin Thicke is a bit creepy as though it's a hot take, even though he's been a well-publicised creeper for quite some time. This is a bit like saying, "Guys, I don't want to alarm anyone, but I have my suspicions that Harvey Weinstein might not be a good person." Only, y'know, saying it without a trace of sarcasm or irony.
Plagiarism in music will always be relevant since there will always be new cases, both frivolous and with merit. But all the cases she goes over are old as fuck now and have already been discussed to death. She brings nothing to the discussion, let alone anything new. Her videos are now 'Here are Wikipedia summaries of famous legal cases from ages ago with no real opinion or insight'.
She has nothing to offer from a musical perspective, having no apparent technical knowledge of music, so she just cribs material and includes clips from the videos other YouTubers who've explored this in much greater depth with actual knowledge and experience.
She also has no legal perspective to offer on the situation. Like the last video, she's just parroting legal quotes and definitions from other sources, and even then it's the most basic shit. She makes blanket statements without really showing anything. Like one of the cases she talks about the Mariah Carey v Andy Stone lawsuit over 'All I Want For Christmas is You'. She essentially says, "This case is different because there appear to be no similarities between the songs, just the lyrics." Okay. So give examples.
Video is an audio-visual medium. If you're going to talk about two songs being similar, provide clips of the songs in question to compare. Show the lyrical similarities. This is a video essay, so provide the viewer with shorthand visual and audio aids so they don't have to go watch two other videos to see what you're talking about. Hearing someone say "two songs are similar and/or different in several ways" is pointless, lazy content.
And it's so half-assed and amateurish. Again, she's paying someone to research and edit videos for her now, so why do they still look and sound like smashed ass? She's recording in the most wide, echoey room she could find. It sounds awful.
She's looking down to read from a script for most of the video, and she reads it with awkward uncertainty, like it's the first time she read that shit. She mispronounces "plagiarised" and it stayed in - no second take. If you're gonna use a script, maybe rehearse it and memorise the lines so it doesn't seem so forced and lazy.
For comparison, Legal Eagle covered the same ground two fucking years ago.
The comparison's especially damning for Eve since she talks about the same case and uses clips from the same music YouTuber that Legal Eagle brought on as a guest expert (and coincidentally has the same sponsor, and while Legal Eagle leaves his sponsor segment until the end, Eve frontloads it so it's the first thing you see).
He's naturally more charismatic than Eve, which helps, but it's infinitely better researched, he provides much broader, deeper and more informed legal context, he brought on an expert with knowledge of music to offer context from that perpective, and he made the video immediately following the case, when it was peak relevance. Eve is doing this shit far too late and far too half-assed.
I'm still baffled why she's clinging to YouTube if she clearly has no interest in or talent for it and already has a full-time job.
it also is not something you can always control. Being catcalled or other unwanted attention from a man is a part of "the male gaze" but that's something that's happening to you as a woman no matter your sexuality or if you even wanted it in the first place.
Why shouldn’t Eve express herself a queer though? If it really isn’t a big deal then why shouldn’t she portray that in what she wheres. For myself I know clothes are a huge part of my identity and coming out not only to other but figuring out what I like and yes I do feel like that’s linked to my sexuality as a lesbian/ queer woman. I relate to Eve a lot I’ve had a huge change in how I dress in the last few months. And like Eve I have to wear a “uniform” / am expected to dress a certain way in my job and that makes me feel so uncomfortable sometimes. So anything I can do to put my own style into it I try to.
Presenting as queer is important to some and I don’t think anyone should critique anyone for wanting to do that. Being queer and visible is so important, I’m in my early 20’s and I don’t feel like I had many people at all to look up to or to listen talk about being gay so if someone like Eve does as a public figure then it’s going to help someone else.

I saw it in my own cohort, the trainees who came in the most boastful and posting stories about the job- quickly leave within a few years. They thought law would be their “Suits” dream when it’s actually an incredibly stressful and complex job.
That new role she’s got will result in at least a 60-70% pay cut too, so she really wanted out.
I begin to wonder whether Eve's girlfriend is not the brightest. She's been promoting the new Drake album in every story lately. Quite a few lesbians (and other members of the LGBTQ+ community) have criticized the album for being extremely homophobic and reproducing stereotypes around women who love women. Some have also criticized Drake for sexualizing and fetishizing lesbians in a particular song that Lucie played in a recent Instagram story with Eve. I find this extremely ridiculous considering Eve even received an award for her commitment to the community.

It would be great if she would deconstruct the toxic culture and spill insider tea about the awful realities of Magic Circle life, but she won't because she still works there.
It's a shame she doesn't do more vlogs as she is very confident on camera. I understand her not posting loads as I'm sure she's mega busy but for the one upload in a month to be a desk tour is a bit meh for me.

I wish Eve and her gf nothing but the best, but gosh did she get worse since they got together. I don't if it is bc she started getting quite a high salary / the gf has been living a pretty privileged life and Eve needed to adapt to her lifestyle or whatever but it makes me sad. I feel like I am watching a parody of her old self.

It's an interesting point you make she could have been 'managed' out of the team and placed in this new area. It happens all the time when companies can't just sack somebody they manage them out instead by doing things like this.
I wonder if this could also explain the sort of baiting I think she's been doing over the past year or so where she would be dressing inappropriately etc. Maybe things were going south at that point and Eve was intentionally being awkward as some sort of passive aggressive resistance.
We'll see how long she lasts in her new role. If she's gone from there in a short period then I think we can start to add more weight to this.
I mean not that it makes it ok but at this point nearly everyone breaks the rules in some way, and there are a million 'exception' clauses that make it very difficult to tell between legit meetings and not. FWIW I literally work in the healthcare services and even we are confused at times.
To be fair MC firms are next level. I know two people who did their training contracts at MCs - they weren’t leaving at 10pm, they were regularly leaving at 1-2am and back early the next day. People often didn’t leave the office at all to go home, so I’m told. They pay really well but they really get their pound of flesh for it.
Eve did a couple of vacation schemes and this work pattern is pretty well known for law undergrads so I’d be surprised if she didn’t know about it!
I find it quite hilarious how she preaches how she views success as ‘earning your own money, paying your own bills, helping parents’. Basically, all of this crap about financial independence and how she values it
Not sure if this was about Eve or her gf but I always find it sort of funny how YouTubers, even those in an educated position and with an actual job like Eve, talk about money as if it's just that easy
The majority of students (and their younger followers) will probably end up in a minimum-wage job, or they may get lucky enough to land a graduate/training position in their chosen career path, and while they will be somewhat financially independent it will not be on the same level as those YouTubers. They probably won't have the spare money to help their parents or rent/buy their own place
I'm sure Eve has probably experienced some financial difficulty or budgeting in her life, but it's obviously very easy to forget that when you have a YouTube channel that will pay you relatively well, a well-followed IG that can score you quick advertisement, a well-paying job that the majority of law graduates would probably kill for. It's just... very ignorant.
