Oh that's brilliant news @SpiceWeasel, I'm so happy for you! Save the drink for 9 days time. SO close to the finish!
Thank you ❤ the vet is happy with his progress so it’s looking unlikely he’ll have to have surgery now or be referred to a specialist, yay! I am fighting the urge. Tbh I did agree with the devil on my shoulder AKA my boyfriend to have a drink, but I won’t pour one on my own and he’s nothing in so if he continues to sit on his arse watching the chase rather than going to the shop the urge will have passed by then and he’s blown it 😂

An update on my fur boy, things are looking up ❤ really want to have a drink like I said I would do but trying to talk myself out of it. I know I’ll feel like I’ve ruined it tomorrow 🙈
I am so sooooooo happy for you. Don’t beat yourself up if you do x

I am having a drink 🙈 sorry guys, I feel like a let down after being so motivated. Just so relieved my baby is going to be alright, we have been fearing the worst this week with some of the possible diagnoses. Will get straight back on it tomorrow through til at least Feb 4th. @fluffyglitterbug I feel very conscious of your loss typing this and my thoughts really are with you ❤

You deserve it completely. Tomorrow is a new day. I think the fundamental point of dry jan is to help you realign yourself and look at your behaviours. I think it’s deffo helped us all. When I look at my app I look at the 20 days not had a drink this month rather than the 1 day I had off 🥰 x

You're so thoughtful. I'm fine, I'm distraught that I lost my Snoops but I also know how happy you must be feeling that your boy is on the mend and that's worth celebrating! I have three other dogs that are keeping me smiling. Enjoy your drink and sending lots of cuddles to your recovering boy! I'm looking forward to 9 days' time when I can have a proper drink.

Our local landlady (who is also a great friend) dropped a lovely bottle of red over this evening so we could a have a drink for Snoopy so that's being cracked open a week on Sunday! (There goes my resolve to last until Feb 6th )

Also, don't feel like a let down. I cracked and had a G&T (or three) the other night but it was ONE night and I'm sticking to dry Jan otherwise. I know I can go without a drink in the week and that's a huge achievement!

I did enjoy having a drink last night, I had less than I usually would as I had one bottle of Prosecco then opened another but only had a glass out of it, felt like that was enough. However I slept TERRIBLY. Just could not stay asleep. We got Chinese as well which I don’t think helped as I was soooo thirsty. My heart was hammering too, I still had my Apple Watch on and one point my HR was 100BPM while I was just lay there in bed! Quite happy just to go back to my alcohol free beers as I have slept amazingly up until last night.

I am not going to beat myself up about having a drink and going to get straight back on DJ. If I still do 30 dry days out of 31, that is an achievement seeing as I struggled to even get 1 day some weeks last year.

If anything, it serves as a reminder as to why we're doing this!

The benefits of not drinking (clearer head, better sleep, general feeling of wellbeing) outweigh the drinking to me! I will of course still have a drink but hopefully not fall into the massive amounts I was drinking pre DJ.

Definitely! I want to be one of those people who can just have a couple of glasses of wine and be satisfied with that. One can dream 🤣

It’s a lovely crisp day here so I’m going to go for a walk and hopefully blow out the cobwebs. I think the cat will be happy for the peace and quiet as I do fuss over him too much 😂

That’s exactly the same problem I have. I really struggle with sleeping when I’m a bit pissed but not completely smashed. I wake up early with a hammering heart / anxious feeling too and end drinking copious amounts of water and hugely craving something sugary. Tbh that’s why I never ever drink on a Sunday night anymore as it was causing me awful anxiety before work on a Monday. And by drink I mean like a few pints or glasses of wine. I’ve gone back to not craving it at the moment, my husband is going to have a bottle of wine on Saturday whereas I’m going to stick to AF beer. I think I’ll have a few drinks next Saturday as I start my new job on the 8th feb so I’ll not be drinking the weekend before I start or possibly during the course of my training (8 weeks!). That being said if next Saturday I’m not REALLY craving it I’m not going to bother because that’s how I felt last Saturday. Wasn’t really bothered, did it as we planned to and ended up sort of feeling a bit like... why did I bother. I really really want to get into the mind set that on a Saturday I can have one or two bottles of fizz and that is it. I don’t just drink it at super speed and then end up on the gin or pre loading with beers and etc.

One thing I have really noticed since cutting down booze is that I don’t wake up to pee during the night anymore. I am sleeping SO deeply and getting to sleep quite quickly. My skin actually does look a bit fresher too. I suffer with quite bad redness and it’s actually reduced a lot!

And that’s exactly my problem too. I’m all or nothing girl. Can’t understand how some people can sit with 1 glass of wine and sip it throughout the whole night. I would be on my 10th one! Yes, the same: panic, anxiety, being slow, feeling guilty, bloated, craving shitloads of fatty carbs... no. And although I’m dry since 31st December, my sleep is still tit. I’m working funny hours now, so can’t get used to it too. Not long now. I can see he finish line 🏁 x

I hear ya!! Maybe one day we will get there.... perhaps on my old adage hahahaha. If you’re struggling I tried sominex which you can get from boots. I tried it when I had insomnia and it really helped!

My partner and I will always say 'let's pop down for one' knowing full well we'll be there for at lease 97 pints and 18 bottles of wine.

I think I've been to our local for one drink a grand total of 1 time, and even then it was two glasses of wine

(In our defence (?!) we live in a small village with no public transport and one pub)

I'm still on dry Jan. I had a few wines at the beginning of the month. Currently on a new year, new me hype. I normally drink 3 bottles a week. The hardest think is knowing ive got 8 bottles of wine chilling in the garage 😳

The only time we have ever been to our local for one drink is when we have been waiting for transport into the nearest town for a night out 😂 we get way too comfy and the thought of walking home is just such an effort even though it’s only 10 mins.

Not at the moment obviously but my dad has gone to the pub every single day apart from when he has been ill which is rare. My step mum is the most laid back person ever and I don’t think she’d care if he just told her but hilariously he always tells her he’s got to go to the shop or go and pay a bill at the garage or something and he’s actually just using it as a reason to leave the house to go to the pub for an hour. I’ve called round before and asked where my dad is and she’s like ‘oh he had to go and get cat food’ but she’ll say it was about half an hour ago and I’ll text him where are you and I’ll get ‘I’m in the pub come and meet me if you want’ 😂

One of our neighbours is like this. He tells his wife he's popping down to the allotment (which he genuinely does do) but stops for a pint on the way and another on the way home. He then comes back down about an hour later for another pint. I'm not quite sure what she thinks he's doing at the allotment as he's never got any mud on him, nor does he bring any produce home! He has a fair amount growing there as his plot is next to ours 🤔

There’s something so wonderful about a pub. I love them even though our locals are a bit....questionable.... there’s nothing better than just parking up and having a good sesh. I’m so looking forward to that. It seems more acceptable than just sitting at home getting smashed... which I also enjoy hahaha. I’m lucky as I have quite a few friends who live in London so I have the best of both worlds. Countryside boozers and then city pubs although. I prefer to just roll out of my local and go home hahaha.

I’m not going to lie the cravings have hit me hard tonight. I won’t cave tomorrow when my husband has wine but I think by next Saturday I will be absolutely gagging.

I’m definitely a pub girl. I like going out in the city to proper pubs which have been there forever filled with as you say sometimes questionable locals but makes for excellent people watching. I used to go ‘out out’ clubbing when I was younger but I have given up trying to pretend to like it now and I would be more than happy never to step foot in a nightclub again 😂 used to always try and pretend sometimes I was working or ill when everyone was going out when I was like 18 but I’d actually be sat on the couch in my pyjamas stuffing my face with pizza thinking this is so much better hahaha

I’m glad I’ve found this thread. I drank too much New Year’s Day. Had a huge meltdown and felt so ashamed the next day I knew I had to make an effect to stop. My marriage has ended and I was hiding behind drink BUT apart from a couple of glasses last Monday I’ve not had anything else. I am sleeping better and don’t wake up full of anxiety anymore. I could never have a couple of glasses, it was always the bottle and then some. This is where I know I’ll struggle - stopping at a couple - but I remember how horrible drinking makes me feel. It’s not worth it!

Still going here. Been so tired this week I haven’t craved anything. It helps I don’t have any booze in the house at the moment I think. My sleep has been rubbish though and I’ve been struggling to get off to sleep but once asleep the quality of sleep is better I guess.

I’ve struggled with getting to sleep too. But I’m sleeping so much better. No 2am and 4am wake ups!!
