I’m planning on giving up booze for good. I done two months without drinking at the end of the year but had a few over Christmas.
I have an issue with alcohol. I don’t really drink often but when I do I have to do it to excess and I always get myself in trouble. I’d just rather not deal with the extreme anxiety after drinking and bad stuff that comes along with it anymore.
Roll on dry life!

I've decided I'm going tee total for a year from 1st Jan. It will be ok on a day to day basis but I'm sure the special occasions will be tricky. I drank a fair bit through the first lockdown and particularly this last month. I enjoy it so much in the moment but the next day or so after I feel rotten.

My husband doesn't really drink. A few times I have gone into the garage and seen the empty wine bottles waiting to go to the bottle bank. I feel a bit embarrassed by the amount.

Good luck everyone doing dry January.

Sorry guys, fallen off the wagon tonight. Doggo passed in my arms. I’m devastated and have had a drink.

Not going to detail the thread - I’m going to add another week onto my dry January to make up for it!

Anyone planning on doing this?
I tried to do it some years back, and got to Day 25; when we were invited to a party with a free bar!
I hope my resolve is stronger this time, especially with lockdown.
Maybe we can support each other?
I want to use it as part of my weight loss/exercise more plan.
Thanks.

I know with the announcement that people will think oh fuck it but let’s make a list of all the positives from staying on Dry Jan!!
So better sleep (ok, takes a week to kick in!)
No muzzy head
Empty calories!!!
save cash ready for when this all ends!
Giving up alcohol is hard, I don’t want to make this “deep” but just take a chance to look around and see how we are constantly bombarded to drink! Mummy wine culture is some how cool? Adverts showing women out with friends, always drinking.
I have not drank for 12 months (officially tomorrow) and I have never felt better, given I would thrash a bottle of wine by 6:30 then move onto my next! It’s just habit, doesn’t change any situation & just numbs you slightly.
I’m not smug in my sobriety as I know how hard it is to achieve it and I bloody failed so many times before, however, I am so fricking happy with it now & proud of myself.
Keep up with Dry Jan, if you slip them jump straight back on it, you won’t regret doing it & you will most likely give it up for good xx

So I just realized it's my friends birthday this weekend and heading out for a few drinks 🤦🏽‍♀️
I’m just jealous you’re somewhere you can go out for drinks and socialise with friends! I’m really considering keeping going on the sober wagon until I can party with people again. Although if that’s the Autumn I’ll probably have 2 glasses of fizz and need a nap 😂

I’ve never done it before but want to this year. Lockdowns this year have increased my alcohol intake at home more than it’s ever been purely through boredom. Not to the extent of getting hammered but just a couple of drinks several days a week so need to nip that in the bud before it becomes a problem. I’m actually looking forward to it and eating better after the excesses of Xmas.

I’m definitely in! Got far too reliant on drinking in the evening. Put far too much weight on, not sleeping well and my complexion is starting to suffer. Let’s do this ❤

Woohoo my weigh in day today and I’ve lost 2lb, I haven’t been that good cos I’ve been into the Xmas chocolate and with the gym being closed I haven’t exercised as much as usual so some of that’s got to be down to the lack of booze!

To be honest I feel like shit!

I have become irritable, moody and just totally negative, not only to my parents, but my g/f and one or two friends.

I need a drink, and if it means going about it illegally then so be it. Perhaps this thread is inappropriate for me because I know I won't be able to last until the end of January.
Rather than dry January why don’t you focus on trying to cut down. Alternate between alcoholic and soft drinks when you want to have something. Or force yourself to only have one drink an hour when you ideally crave it. Cutting down is still an absolutely massive achievement when it’s something you find hard. It may not be advisable to stop altogether for your mental well being x

How nice is it waking up on a Saturday without a hangover 💪🏻 I mean I did last weekend too but that wasn’t a proper weekend as hadn’t been at work all week. My kids even slept in till 8am 🙌🏻 feeling really good today.

I’ve mentioned before but I’ve found filling my Instagram feed with cool sober accounts has helped. I didn’t realise there was such a sober movement and there are plenty of UK based accounts so not all over the top cringey American ones (no offence to any Americans just I need sarcasm and dry humour!)

Today was my day 1 as we celebrated New Year on the 1st. I stopped drinking completely for about 6 months years ago and have been toying with cutting it out completely again, aside from maybe a drink with a nice meal out. I cant deal with the anxiety the next day, its so hard for me.

Day 2 down, during the week isn't so much a struggle but I'm not looking forward to 6pm on Friday 😬
You will whizz this!!! 6pm Friday go for a walk! No excuses, just 30 mins will do it! Once home, shower and a schloer or fancy juice, make a list of stuff you need to do Saturday & try an early night, honestly, you will be so proud Saturday morning xxxxx

I’m managing fine, hope I don’t sound like a smug twat.

I get into bed pleased I haven’t had a drink, that makes me think it might be time to consider becoming teetotal but I love wine and gin🍸🍸🍸🍸. If I’m really honest it does wreck my sleep and cause anxiety and I can never stick to one , ever.

Apologies in advance if anyone is being sponsored to do this but I personally find it really annoying being asked to sponsor people to do Dry January/Stoptober etc. I don't see it anywhere near as much of a challenge as other things people might asked to be sponsored for e.g. running a 10k/half marathon which requires dedication and training. Also it's beneficial to your health and your own bank balance?! You never see them putting any of their own money in on the fundraising page either. I know it's to raise money for good causes and I am a charitable person anyway but I just get annoyed at the concept of sponsoring someone not to have a drink!

I will! Haven't been drinking heavily but I want a full month of cleanse, without even the sporadic cocktail or wine.
