I think she enjoyed the business leader / entrepreneur / CEO identity as a differentiator from the other food industry heirs swanning around Chelsea doing fuck all. Especially when she moved into the tech area eg launching the app. But at a certain point it ran away from her, she hit the her limit and that’s when her Dad brought Matthew into the picture. He love bombed her, promised to rescue the princess from all her problems… and here we are 🤢
He’s gaslight her so well that she really thinks he saved her, not the other way around.

Yikes.

You mentioned before that you worked there for a while…just how bad was it?
It was horrific. Their culture is to bully their way to getting things done. Matt blamed his team working from home for a reduction in sales. Most people hate it there. The staff turnover is dreadful. It’s chaotic. There’s no celebration of good work/outcomes. There’s no care for their staff well-being. The contract terms are awful.
---
Case in point…evening website meetings?! Surely their team have families and friends they would like to see? Hobbies and much better things to do?!

That article could have its own thread, there’s so much to unpack in it. She hasn’t had Botox or fillers but has had the very best facials and skincare as well as every treatment under the sun including facial acupuncture (all for free as she’s a fashion editor), and she uses an expensive gua sha and other similar tools with expensive oil every single day. Pretty sure she’s child free also. I think it’s a good conversation to open up and have in the round but found that article extremely narrow. The photo is interesting also because Anna has gentle lines in other photos I’ve seen of her.

And there’s Ella of course jumping on it in the most reductionist sort of way. There’s myriad reasons why people of a higher socio-demographic tend to live longer and have better health for longer so are more likely to look better for their age / look like they're ‘ageing well’. But congrats Ella for resisting the urge to pop over to Harley Street for all the tweakments hun x

Is she seriously trying to insinuate her mothers name / the family connections haven’t opened doors. Let alone the advantage she’s had in eye-watering wealth and privilege she’s been raised with.
It’s really irrelevant that the supermarket chain isn’t still in family hands.

The original story never made any sense, she was selling a lifestyle that was completely unobtainable for most people, she worked with private specialist doctors, she had a personalised exercise program that was something like yoga 5 times a week, I mean how much does that cost alone! Plus all the superfood powders she used to constantly go on about, which I think everyone now knows were a total fad. Then there’s been people who have spoken up about knowing her from uni and suggestions that it wasn’t just unhealthy food she enjoyed at uni, if you know what I mean. So of course giving up a lifestyle like that, eating more fruit and vegetables is going to make you feel better no question. Plus she had the right look to back it up, at that point. The story was so conveniently engineered to launch her brand and it remains to be a load of rubbish.

I’ve noticed Ella never seems to get sick when her kids and Matt do? Eg with this “influenza”, and when they had covid etc - does she just avoid getting close to them?
Maybe he can't actually get close enough to her to pass it on, she could easily hide behind some of the tasseled clutter. With all the clashing patterns she could be camouflaged for weeks before anyone saw her!

So on one hand I get that this is a tough moment and kids can be cruel… but instead of affirmations maybe try to explain in simple terms that you will never ever get along with everyone and that’s ok. Affirmations are the perfect way to drill it into a child that nothing ever is their fault

Do you guys find he demonstrates toxic positivity? Or just generally has a “fake” vibe? I used to think he was okay until a few years ago when he started involving his girlfriend/wife in lots of his work - I would cringe at her subpar acting in his videos. Bit similar to how I cringed when Ella started involving her boyfriend/husband in her work 🤣 They’ve deffo got a bit in common!
He faked being a monk and plagiarized loads of quotes. I find loads of those armchair therapy/motivational gurus really odious and exploiting or trivializing people’s difficulties.

This video goes more into it:

Ella has been reading her threads here again.

All of a sudden the DE logo is also a picture of her and Matt, “ask us anything” Q&A, lots of pictures pf CEO Matthew and how amazing he is making the company grow… 🤦🏼‍♀️
Do you think she has? If so, I’d assume she wouldn’t use a picture that looks like Kim Jong-uns family portrait with the big man sat down and his woman standing next to him… gives out patriarchal vibes… 🙃

Just did some aimless scrolling during I’m a Celeb to make this post as it’s pissed me right off that she’s tried to claim that being part of the Sainsbury’s dynasty hasn’t got her to where she is…

I started going off Ella in 2015/2016. She’s the same age as me and before that I had been so impressed with what she’d achieved.

Then she went on holiday to St Lucia (somewhere I’ve always dreamed of going) and stayed in the beautiful Jade Mountain

I remember googling the hotel and seeing that it was like $1,500 a NIGHT minimum! And I was like “holy fuck, how can three girls my age afford this?!”

Later that year she then posted about getting engaged here:

This photo was actually the second time she’d posted a photo of that pool, that year… (so 3 Caribbean holidays in one year)

View attachment 1747183

Just as an aside: the photo where she got engaged was taken like 4 weeks after she’d just got a dog I can’t imagine getting a dog and then leaving it essentially straight away. Explains her attitude to her kids though.

But anyway, it lead me to Google the house. It’s called Hummingbird, and tonight’s googling has brought up that her Mum has actually sold it. They bought it for an easy £5million, and have sold it for £22million.

Some info on the houses Ella grew up owning:

However, this is the article I came across back then (it’s still a top search on Google if you look for Camilla Woodward Mustique House).

And for those who enjoy looking at luxury houses, this is the house they use to own: https://avenueproperty.com/property/hummingbird/

And honestly I felt so lied to… She had presented herself as this girl who started a foodblog and got lucky. But she isn’t. Her original blog included fish, and was on Blogger or something. She was recommended to change it to vegan because at the time, it was becoming the “in-vogue” thing.

The following is all from interviews I then read by Ella herself at around that time:

She first got picked up by Huffington Post because her friend wrote the bloody article. The whole thing about basing it around her illness and how it “cured her” was essentially a different way to sell a weight loss diet, but rather than saying that, instead, this diet “cures other things too, it’s just that amazing”.

She created her first phone app, funded by her family wealth, when she had like 20,000 followers, which is not usually enough to justify the expense of something like that.

She was able to employ Annie Clack (do any of you remember her?) and then employed someone else (I can’t remember her name though), before she’d even released her book. How? Family money.

Her original kitchen, in the flat she moved into after uni in central London and was in her name, was put in especially for the lighting, the island and the ascetic so it was perfect for filming. This was because the large kitchen in her Mum’s house where she filmed her first youtube (which was filmed by a friend who happened to also be a videographer, so had professional cameras etc) was too dark…

To repeat: she bought her flat in London, and put a brand new kitchen in it to film videos and take photos for a food blog because her Mum’s kitchen was too dark.

Her first book came about because her Mum’s friend, who happened to be a book publisher recommended that she did it and helped her put together a suggestion about what to put forward to publishers.

But no, obviously she has absolutely not had any help at all from her family or the fact that her Mum is the heiress to the Sainsburys fortune which is something like £100million.

That’s ignoring her wedding, which was also in Mustique. They hired several villas around the island for their 30-odd guests. These villa’s are in the $50,000’s per week to rent. And they hired multiple…

Her wealth and her upbringing are just absolutely unimaginable to everyday people. She isn’t one of us. She doesn’t have money problems. Her Mum has invested in all her business ventures and Ella knows that her Mum will buy her out of trouble.

The fact the public have just accepted her story at face value is just incredibly good PR. I think if Tattle had been a thing back in 2016/2017, she probably would have crumbled a lot more and there would have been a bigger backlash.

edit: my ability to paste the right links in the right place is clearly shit 😂 sorry!
I am impressed by the amount of research you’ve done and thank you for that! Just to add to this - I remember when Ella said that at the beginning, when she was only launching her first blog, it was only her mom who read it and who shared it with her friends. When I didn’t know their privilege at that time, I imagined middle class women who just happened to talk about it - I didn’t realise that such a powerful family would have powerful people in their circle. So the ‘my mom shared it with friends’ story hits different when these friends are probably extremely minted people with different backgrounds that Ella can find useful in launching her career…

With these prices I’m curious to see how many they manage to sell. Not the best idea to release plant milk for £2.40 or more when just below you have Alpro for £2 (which I already find a bit pricey) in a two-digit inflation.
How on earth is this leading the way when there are millions of plant based products out there already

Girl that's not a flex, that's some serious red flag behaviour!!
Also if they met in early 2015 like she said, she would’ve only been 23 and he would’ve been 31 😳 Surely her family and friends were concerned when they moved in together after 1 week and then got engaged and he became CEO of her business 3 months later… it sounds toxic

“a few years ago I was getting very nervous and anxious”

Funny how she was always nervous/anxious/unhappy/unhealthy/tired etc etc THEN but never NOW. And the ‘then’ keeps shifting. And the ‘magic’ (lol) solution is always ‘my app/my guided meditation session/my yoga classes/an expert featured on my podcast’. Positively uncanny.

It’s just rinse & repeat ad naseum. She is a fucking fraud.

I have just unsubscribed from her app. I have been paying 99p a month for the recipes since it was started. I had a notification that from next month it would cost me £2.49 for the same. That‘s two and a half times as much! I am going to screenshot the recipes I use before I lose access. I can’t believe she has done that in a cost of living crisis!

Just cringed at the latest Instagram update - seriously though, girl check your privilege! Whole family feeling under the weather? Why not drive down to your extended families rich country estate for a ‘quite week to slow down’.
Seriously just eff off. Such a tone deaf post in the wake of covid and the cost of living crisis. She should be ashamed.

Always!!! Their immune system must be crap as ai dont think she feeds them nutritious fods and they are vegan also which means they miss out on a lot that their little bodies need
Being brought up vegan and/or vegetarian doesn’t mean you’re missing out on nutrients, I mean Christ, half of India is vegetarian… there are healthy ways to be brought up not eating meat in the same way there are very unhealthy ways to be brought up eating meat.

Lots of toddlers get sick at nurseries, they’re literally breeding grounds for colds and sniffles. I imagine Ella has a tendency to over react to them though because she is seemingly a hypercondriac.
