Sometimes I wake up and have no truck with anxiety, I saw to myself, not today, I am having the day off. Sometimes works.

I’ve woken up and just experienced what I can only describe as a panic attack. I’ve experienced one before but last time when this happened I got diagnosed with low iron as I had a few of the symptoms that are similar for both low iron and anxiety/panic attacks (fast pulse, dizziness etc). I hate how it’s really hard to bring yourself out of them and now I’m trying to not get worried about my iron again and work myself up because it’s going to be a rigmarole with the doctor to sort it out. The thought of going back to sleep though and it happening again 😩

Panic attacks are so hard, sorry you had one. The more you have them, you kind of have an understanding that they won’t last forever even though it feels like it in the moment. Doing the 5 senses exercise can help bring you back. Speaking with a doctor can help you address if it’s iron or anxiety and there are meds to help with both as well as coping mechanisms so you’re not afraid if/when it does happen. I know it’s a rigamarole with doctors but left unchecked in can become harder and affect you in other ways. For now, remind yourself you’re in a safe place and that you are ok. Deep calming breaths (you can try in for 4, hold for one, out for 8 counts, repeat).

So sorry you had to have a panic attack. I was also diagnosed with low iron last year when I started having panic attacks, and they do say lots of people with anxiety actually have low iron. Maybe ask you GP for a complete blood test and go from there?

I know it's hard but try not to worry too much about the possibility of having another panic attack. Chances are it won't happen again. And if it does, you'll go through it just like you did today. Listening to calming meditations on Youtube really helps me (anything that brings your focus on your breath is helpful). In general, I would recommend daily meditation just to build that skill.

I just hate this feeling of know what’s coming (panic attack) and just not being able to do anything about it 😭

Sorry to all of you on here suffering with anxiety, it's the worst isn't it?
Mine is all trauma based, been recently diagnosed with PTSD and I'm waiting for EMDR therapy. It's a constant loop of panic attacks, intrusive thoughts and overthinking.
Does anyone else feel like they leave their bodies when they have a panic attack?
I go dizzy, my hands feel tingly, rapid breathing and a feeling of not being here. It's truly awful.

I have a lot of anxiety most of it being triggered by stress and it gets worse during PMS.

The things that helped:
- Therapy
- Baths
- Talking to people to get me out of my head
- If you can, taking a weekend or week trip away
- Crying to release stress

I’ve had anxiety since I was very young and made myself sick with worry about different things over the years.

These days I get very anxious about my job. I run a small business which I really love doing but I can’t shake off the feeling that it’ll all end tomorrow and everything I’ve worked for will be gone.

I can totally relate to the poster who mentioned OCD and the compulsion to check things. I take pictures of my straighteners to reassure myself that I switched them off, blown my candles out, etc.

I had a throat issue last year. Turns out it’s stress - job related. In the last few months it has felt better. Today I logged on for work and read something, instant anxiety. Basically I am going to have to fight my corner, again. Just like last year. My throat immediately tightened up, and now I have trouble eating and my voice is croaky. It makes it better to know it’s stress related rather than a serious physical medical issue. (Interesting how stress can manifest itself. I also get the sensation that the side of my face is wet sometimes. It isn’t, but that is stress too.) But it is still bloody annoying. And debilitating. And depressing. It’s nearly New Year and 2023 is gearing up to be as crap as this year has been. I am too old to find another job, I feel totally stuck. I can’t face another year of this.

Just wanted to share in case it could help someone, I am currently reading Dare by Barry McDonagh and I find it quite helpful and reassuring. I can’t say if the method will work long term but just reading the first few pages made me feel a bit better. Highly recommend!

ETA: Also if anyone starts reading it and wants an accountability buddy, I am here🙋‍♀️

I have mild anxiety compared to some. Just a tit couple of years have left their mark plus perimenopause. Recently work stresses have really got to me, and I have physical symptoms of stress.

However I read somewhere that a supplement called L-theanine can help. So I bought some a week ago. And I have to report, it’s working. Never expected it to, but I feel calmer than I have done in years. It works immediately and the dose is 200mg, it’s cheapish, it’s non habit forming, and you can take it in the morning or night - I take it at night (8pm ish) so that I am calm when I go to bed. I still have worries but they are manageable and they feel a bit removed. They don’t make you spaced out or drowsy, just on a more even keel. The only drawback is if you have blood pressure issues - can’t remember if it’s low or high blood pressure, but you might want to look that up if you are minded to investigate. I am happy to recommend these. Surprised, but pleased!

Urgh.. my anxiety had settled but it’s back today. It’s definitely worse when I’m tired.

Glad to find this thread, I am struggling at the moment with my anxiety…

Things are going so well in my life I have a promotion, I’m saving money, I’m fitter and most importantly am seeing a lovely guy. Here’s the problem, I’ve been single for 11 years and have not found one decent guy in that time. My heart has been chewed out and spat on and let me tell you this guy is too good to be true.

I’m completely wracked with anxiety mainly surrounding him, thinking it’ll all go wrong. I don’t think I could bounce back from that heartache well.

Anyone experienced similar? Xx
