The thing I’m finding, is that while people are ransacking supermarkets and the big stores for their supplies of loo rolls and tins, the local newsagents and corner shops have been forgotten by the majority of people. I popped in to my local one this morning and they still had full shelves of everything.
It’s these small businesses that really need people to buy their products, not the supermarkets. They’re the ones who will be hit hardest in the event of a lockdown.

Not to add further worry, but how do people know they have a strong immune system and do not have any underlying health conditions? You wouldn't know unless you've had a recent full body, and comprehensive medical check with MRI and CT scans. I personally would not take any risks with this virus. Its outcome is a lottery unfortunately.

At least people in Australia are being calm despite their sensationalist news 😆

I think people need to be careful. This obviously isn't "media scaremongering", the kind of restrictions that are happening now has not been seen before in living memory outside of a world war and governments aren't doing this for fun. That said panicking doesn't achieve anything, it's a new virus and so much is unknown and what we don't know is what makes it such a concern.

Let's hope it stops spreading in Italy, the south is so much poorer and it would be far more detrimental.

Iran stopping all flights to Europe and Milan airport is stopping all international flights.

Has anyone thought of what they’ll do for money if the have to self isolate/go into lockdown? I live hand to mouth and if I have to go onto sick pay then I’ll probably have to rely on a food bank and won’t be able to pay my bills. While I’m worried about the health of my relatives the financial implications are more of a personal worry.

No disrespect to anybody here. But I'm shocked at the amount of people with insecure jobs that can't pay their mortgage in a month if they lose their job. The mortgage application forms make it very clear if you can't keep up with repayment you will lose your home. Why do people expect government help with their mortgage? That's not fair if the government helps people with their personal assets. At most they can work with mortgage companies to stop interest payments for a couple of months. The times of jobs for life has long been over, if you've got a mortgage it's mainly your responsibility to make payments. And mortgage payments are low at the mo.
You show an absolute lack of understanding about the state of our country. it is hardly that anyone WANTS to live in a month to month situation, or a financially unstable situation. People do the best they can with the jobs that are available. And talking about mortgages is just ridiculous. Many people will not have a mortgage and still have to pay RENT, which is usually higher than a mortgage payment anyway.
Luckily we are mortgage free, own our house outright along with several others. However the nature of both our jobs (husband self employed and me a sub teacher) means our monthly income is variable. We are financially very stable with great savings, and very responsible, but it doesn’t negate the fact that if we can’t get any work for a month that is a crap situation to be in.

The delay phase suggestion of 7 days self-isolation if you have any kind of cough/cold/temperature is concerning for me. I have young children, so we have constant coughs and colds through winter. If we are expected to self isolate every time then I wont be leaving the house until July 🤦‍♀️

Heart disease kills.....
The flu kills.....
People die from.....

Shut up.
People who keep spouting this shit even now need those masks so we don’t have to hear them anymore.

There’s a difference between being calm and trying to manage people’s anxiety and being thick.

Happy Monday folks,
wash your hands 😂🤣

Im sure there will be a lot more babies in 9 months too.
O God yes ! Eek that might be another strain of health services that hasn't even been considered 🤔

I bet at least one person calls their baby Corona 😂

(P.s. if you don't laugh you'll cry sometimes X)

People calling for schools to be closed, where are kids supposed to go? I bet they won’t stay at home in isolation. They’ll be out in shopping centres, the streets, parks etc so still being exposed.

How long for? What about their education? Not to mention what are working parents meant to do? If they closed my sons nursery I’d be screwed...I have no family support so I don’t know how I’d care for him and go to work.

The knock on effect to business would be huge if half their workforce suddenly couldn’t come in and therefore the economy would be effected. Maybe I’m missing something...I didn’t even think kids seemed to be getting affected that much?

So apparently in Italy they can still go to work and public transport is still running? How’s that going to help them if people still work?

I have a Chronic illness and it’s annoying me when people say welllllll it’s only the elderly or people with underlying illnesses that get it! That’s me!

I’d be very stuck financially though if I had to self isolate when we move to the delay stage, I don’t have any spare money as it is! BUT I hope they take the decision out of our hands
I am getting SICK of people saying this and not taking into consideration those who are vulnerable/older that may read their social media posts. In fact today, I posted on IG saying "think before you post some smart ass comment online." My BIL has been doing this, and SIL is of the same opinion that why should they worry over the "flu." Maybe because your parents are elderly and your dad has a lung condition you selfish fucks. Sorry, it is getting me riled up. Now, I am not saying panic but be considerate of those others who may not be so healthy.

Vietnam only have 31 cases, I wouldn’t see that as cause to cancel, personally.
I'd be more worried about the flight itself tbh regardless of destination, those places are breeding grounds for bacteria

I'm British but study in Prague. We have around 40 cases. We got notification today that all schools and universities are officially closed and all events (graduation ceremonies, conferences, symposia, sport events) with the expected attendance of over 100 persons are cancelled.

Final 6th year medical school exams supposed to be tomorrow are cancelled until further notice.
The UK seem to be the only country that is so blatantly putting the economy before its population. It is a disgrace

My colleague told me that her brother has said if he gets it hes going to work as normal and doing nothing different.
Ignorant, uneducated attitudes like that are what's most deadly.

I dont have an insecure job. I have a job that doesn't pay sick pay. I have insurance cover that will pay my mortgage if I am unwell but if I am made to self isolate that wont pay out. No need.

I am writing my son’s birthday party invitations out for his football party on 3rd April, so that he can hand them out tomorrow in school. My husband just walked past, glanced over my shoulder and said “Blimey you’re bloody optimistic eh?” Fucker.

Just looking at what the rest of Europe are doing, the Netherlands had 56 new cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total to 321 the same as the UK. Thousands of children were sent home from schools today. Albania have 2 cases and have closed all schools and cancelled all travel to and from Italy until April 3rd. Germany are tracking all confirmed cases so the root cause of each case can be found and offering testing to anyone connected and have cancelled all public events over 1000. The Germans have taken this virus seriously since December and have taken a proactive approach. We meanwhile, are being told to wash our hands and consider self isolating if we feel ill and are brave enough to tell our managers.
