I genuinely think part of the answer is stop testing. Why are we testing if we’re not sick or suffering? You wouldn’t test for the flu or something in case you had it.

Some of the postive cases may come from all the hundreds and hundreds of hospital procedures though which requires a PCR swab before hand so they could be adding to the numbers

Also some employers ask if they’re a suspected case in the household that the employee also tests before returning to work

God I’m bloody depressed. Yeah I know people have it a lot worse that me but just gotta rant. Just been told I’ll be working from home for the foreseeable future just as I signed to contract to my new flat which is in a city miles away from where I currently live just for this job. The head office for my job is meant to be incredible. I honestly feel so disappointed

My in laws are supposed to be coming for Christmas (and I actually like my in laws so will be gutted if they can’t!) One of my MIL colleagues has just tested positive 😩 annoying thing is she works in an office so if her company weren’t stingy and let her work from home this could be avoidable!!

I got my NHS letter saying my smear test is due and to book with my GP...... Yip haven't been able to get through constantly engaged... No doubt prioritising booster appointments... So can't see me getting my smear this year.
Does your local hospital not have a family planning clinic ., I always went here For mine and never the gp

Schools have asked pupils to test twice a week for almost a year so they provide boxes of them. At one point they sent my daughter home with four boxes - 7 in each!

Getting a bit sick of spam from the NHS now.....6 emails and 9 texts.....can't they work out I don't want a booster(*).

I might just book one to get them off my back.

(*) - no anti-vax sentiment here. Jabbed x2 with AZ and happy to have 1x more AZ but not an mRNA. I wouldn't take part in a medical trial even if they paid me.
My asthmatic son has has 2 AZ. He hasn't yet been invited for his booster, but he's decided that he doesn't want it anyway.

Today he got through same text as me from our surgery (that I posted) but his text told him that routine appointments would be cancelled, but it also reminded him to book his flu jab.
So he can't see a Dr for a general worry, but can see them for a jab

Honestly up to you, viral load is the same regardless of vaccine status and transmission
vaccines only help reduce the severity of how ill you are

so if your dad is up to date with jabs and feels comfortable socialising then Ul be fine

This is the highest case day ever, they have ammo to lock us down at this point and the fact they haven’t just proves to me they aren’t really that concerned about Omicron but need to appear to be doing something in the meantime.

I don’t want another lockdown and I think they’ll avoid it at all costs purely down to not wanting to pay for it. At the end of the day, they’re still the Tory party, covid or not.
It's not about lockdowns.

They just want everyone boosted and get the passports in place based on 3 shots .
Then over time they'll add more restrictions to the passports.

In order to retain your passport and be eligible for freedoms you need to comply with whatever the new gatekeeper is- it could be continuous boosters or something else.

Try not to be too downhearted. I expect "for the forseeable future" just means they can't put an end date on it yet, due to the uncertainty. Hopefully numbers will come down before too long, especially as more get the booster, then offices will start to encourage people to come in a bit more.

Like what? What new stuff might the gatekeepers demand ?

I'm unvaccinated. My dad (vaccinated) and I are both CEV and I have continued to see and live with him at various points throughout the past two years and neither of us has caught COVID.

Please just enjoy your family together this Christmas and stop living in fear.

The vaccine does not stop you from transmitting the virus anyway!

ETA, to hopefully give you more reassurance, my 11-year-old son had COVID and I obviously cared for him and also didn't catch it.

I agree. I mean how many right now have flu or a common cold? I bet that’s quite a high number. Ok not as high as covid but we don’t test people daily for these things so who knows how high the figures are. My sons had to do a pcr today for work because he has a sore throat, I’ve been a bag of nerves all day because I’m unvaccinated and have CFS. Sick of it all.

If that was said then it's interesting because I know plenty of elderly and vulnerable who that even before all the panic couldn't get their boosters booked until the new year.
Meanwhile anyone young fit and healthy who has time to queue for 2hrs can go get theirs.

Make it make sense

Did any journalist ask about the Omicron hospital figures?
Or are we still assuming all this waffle is for 10, maybe 9, maybe less people?
Not that I can remember, mostly asking if Boris is going to change his ways.... If they will be celebrating Xmas with family and about the party rumours..... To be honest it was just a hour of them screaming boosters at the cameras... How we should now be getting jabs into the kids to save the world and hopefully get back to some sort of normal next year 😏🙄

I really feel for you. Working from home can be great for some people, but what others don't think about is the social isolation that working from home can cause.

Yes you might be on Teams or Zooms calls and speaking to people, but thats nothing compared to being able to swivel your chair around and have a 5min mindless chat about crap just to break the day up, which really helps with work morale.

If you're a good worker you can also end up putting in more hours than you're contracted to because you lose all track of time.

Or the fact that working from home means that you might not get any kind of exercise or just time outside.
It's all very well saying "well make time", but some people can't if they have commitments.
For most people their exercise or time in fresh air was walking to work, catching public transport or having a mooch about town on their lunch hour.

The fact that you have a new job and having to do this is awful and I really hope it doesn't last. I also hope that your company and HR dept recognises what I've said and helps you... if they don't then you should get in touch with them. All companies now should be safeguarding their employees mental health

Is that really true? Do you have any data you can point me to? I have some family members worrying and judging so would be great to be able to back up my reasoning for not having the booster with some facts!
