Climate Activists

First of all the disclaimer that is necessary when discussing X.R and similar groups. I am not a Climate change denier and have said in other threads on this forum that the consumer driven society we currently have can’t continue for much longer.

But now let’s look at the group itself, along with other similar groups such as BLM. Let’s not be shy here, these are in essence Far Left groups. They are not stupid, they realise that they can’t explicitly say words like Socialism, Communism or Marxism, given histories unfortunate knack of systems based on these philosophies quickly degenerating into nightmares of extreme poverty, repression, and human rights abuse. (See Venezuela) Unless of course they want to use the frankly laughable “that wasn’t real socialism” or “Sweden is a socialist country” arguments. However repackage those failed philosophies as saving the planet or combating racism and you have a fresh new army of recruits who’s hearts are in the right place but perhaps lack a little in critical thinking experience.

What has struck me about these groups is the similarity of the message. We must change “the system”. (What to?). No. “The system” has provided most people in the West, including X.R, an unparalleled comfortable lifestyle and the absolute right to moan about their comforts to their hearts content. The system is fine it’s the greed of the people within the system which is the issue, and that doesn’t just include billionaires, it includes anyone who is currently contemplating upgrading their phone to a newer model which operates one millisecond quicker when their old one works perfectly well.

Another that’s struck me when reading stories of people who have been arrested to court after these protests. They’re not as you might expect 20 somethings, but are often older people in their 60s or 70s. I do wonder if “back in the day” how many of these older committed environmentalists were expressing “solidarity” with mining communities and agitating to keep the pits open? More than a few I expect.

I remember there was a good documentary years ago which followed UAF and EDL. They filmed at the same protest but from different sides. When it came to it nothing was much different between them in the end. Shouting at police, shouting at each other, fighting with the police, fighting with each other. It ended with arrests galore on both sides.

Extremists are the two cheeks of the same arse.

Just seen the mess they’ve caused at Trafalgar Square (?) vandalising the fountain 🤬 the feckless idiots are just a travelling freak-show. Some beast with a megaphone bouncing around with her belly hanging out. Namby-pamby police standing there grinning like they’re in a queue at a festival, itching for their opportunity to break out into a dance 🙄 they all need putting in the recycle bin.

They really are appallingly vile.

The police and authorities anger me more though for refusing to clamp down on people of this ilk. Why should the rest of us have our lives and country ruined because some anarchist twits want a fun day out? It's not protesting, it's just thugs causing chaos because they can.

I see the set of toss pots have ruined another day in the capital for people minding their own business, going about their day such as work with it being interrupted. We are skint and they cost the taxpayer millions to deal with their crap. In this country we do a bloody lot to help the planet and in the future will do a lot more. If they want to go after countries ruining the planet who use coal etc they should pop to Australia, China and Russia to carry on their protests to see how well they go down.

In Norwich some moron from XR climbed up a huge crane and sat it out for a few days. All they managed to do was tie up an ambulance and a load of police while they sat up there being a dick. It makes me so mad when there are elderly being forced to wait on the floor while some middle class twonk gets their 5 mins of fame. I fail to see how that helped the plant one bit.

I wonder how many of these hypocrites are in favour of, are highly supportive and vocal for XR in public. However they very clearly don't care about the environment when it suits them....

Each abandoned tent requires the equivilent of 9000 plastic straws, and 25kg of co2 to make.

Abandoned Festival tents also add around 875 tonnes to landfill each year.

The XR bunch should have stood outside the Festival gates telling people, 'don't be utter hypocrites'. Would have been far more beneficial than messing around on Tower Bridge.

Left behind tents end up going to companies like this that can get them used again by donating them abroad as one example........

People should tidy up the rubbish they leave behind though. It looks a tip and it's sad people don't care.

I agree.

Some tents can be recycled, although not all are. It is also a terrible waste that some (possibly whom claim they are 'green') are so wasteful for a three day event. A tent can be used over and over, not just for one event.

Much of it is sheer laziness.

Yes, they should clear up their own mess. Sadly this isn't enforced.

If anyone who attended an event and left it like the images, then try to claim green credentials, or lecture others on being green. Then they are utter hypocrites.
