Christmas present moans

Ok so I have a on off relationship with my sister - went to mums today to find she'd dropped of Xmas present for myself and my daughter (her neice).
We open them ----wait for it
I received a packet of tissues - from a multi pack and my daughter received a small tube of lip balm.

I genuinely have no words
Just don't bother

this tread is hilarious, my sister is usually a great gift giver, I am sure she does it to make my stuff look naff as although I try hard I am just not that good at this stuff. Last year she had an off year and we got a random basket of stuff which I think was re-gifted so I was lulled into a false sense of security that she had paid attention as I keep telling her not to buy us stuff as we all have enough money to buy what we want when we want it, so this year she went full out again, and I know I sound ungrateful, but she knows I am crap at this present buying game and also it was all food and I have put on a lot of weight this last couple of years and am always moaning I need to get a grip as it's out of control, ok even I know I sound ungrateful, I will go hang my head in shame

sorry second post in quick succession, does anyone else hate the smell of Sanctuary and have a drawer full of the stuff or is it just me?

So this year from her I received a clearly regifted smelly set. The corners of the box were all tatty

I quite like the petty regifting or variations on the crap we were given idea. I started this thread because I couldn’t understand why partner’s family member had asked what I’d like and then decided to get me something that would have been more expensive and unwanted. It turned out the gift was actually way worse than expected - I wish I could say why but I’d be worried about being outed.

For the serial offenders, there should be some acknowledgment that the gifts they give are lousy. The only way they may acknowledge that is if they get something similar (the same if you have the bottle) or equally as offensive.

@PurpleRox - your sister could be gifted a wrapped up loo roll for her birthday. Companies like Who Gives A Crap and Bazoo sell them individually wrapped so you wouldn’t even have to spend on wrapping paper.

I really don’t think these people would challenge their gifts and even if they did you could just point out that you used their gifts as inspiration: ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ after all

We did secret Santa for my extended family meet up, £10 limit. I got a bag of unwrapped items which were clearly bundled together from a drawer: discontinued bodyshop sample perfume, chocolates well past their best and all white inside, battered box of green Avon nail polish and bubble bath.

I’ve said I’m not doing it again, I bought a really lovely gift and went slightly over budget for it too.

Complaining on behalf of my mum -
My mum has a phobia of candles, well known in our family - she won't be in the same room as one (Due to abuse that happened as a child it's a lifelong fear) so what does my sister get for my mum? A huge home bargains yankee-ish candle
Edit to say: Me and my sister did our christmas 2 days before actual Christmas day - she got me a candle as well and i said 'Oh thanks but we don't have candles in the house because of mums fear' - so she didnt even warn me that she'd got mum a candle - I'd have swapped it for something (we live together so it wouldnt have been an issue)

I have been working from home since 2020, and do like to light the odd candle. My birthday is in October and I got candles. I have been bought endless candles for Christmas too and I just feel like its the lazy option now? so unimaginative. I even get candles from Lidl now as presents....
