My friend mentioned a while ago that she was going to buy my baby an outfit as part of her Christmas present, so I told her what size she’s in now but also suggested getting the next size up as she’s getting big quickly.

Opened her gifts to find a selection of lovely winter clothes in sizes 12-18 and 18-24 months. My baby is 3 months old

I’ve always bought clothes too big for kids/babies, on purpose. If a kid is 3 months old I would buy 6-9 months probably. A 6 year old I would buy either 7-8 or 8-9

It reminds me of people who “stash” kids clothes; it’s usually Frugi or Scandi but people will buy tops in like age 7 when the baby is just born

People who bought me clothes in 6-9 months when my baby was a newborn were the GOAT. Saved me a ton

I probably would have done the same (and have done on many occasions). I’d buy for the next season, or same season next year - so I’d have either got your baby 6-9/9-12 summery clothes or 12-18 winter so you got a whole season’s wear out of them…

My family are quite good at presents- we all give each other “ideas” so we all know we’re getting something we want, and also getting things we each want.


Although, my mother makes us something every year, and every year it’s awful… last year we had chocolates, this year alcohol which would be fine except she has loads of allergies so she can’t taste test them!

I didn't get a single present or card from my partner or kids. I should be used to this by now as it happens most birthdays and Christmas but it feels like an extra kick in the teeth at the moment. I've been really suffering with my mental health the last couple of months and though I know I'm not worthless, it certainly doesn't go any way to making me feel cared about.

I'm really dreading going back to work next week and being asked the usual "did you get anything nice" and hearing what efforts everyone else's families have made.

It’s basically got a clip that you attach to it for about 15 mins to heat it up & then stays warm for longer than a normal hwb. I haven’t been able to use it yet

I hate to sound ungrateful, but my goodness, the shower sets. Specifically Baylis and Harding, I find them so impersonal. I can’t use them because of my skin conditions yet people still buy them for me. I literally have 4. They’ll be heading straight to the womens refuge.


You’re not ungrateful at all. I completely get this, it is upsetting to get gifts when you realise that people don’t “get” or truly know you. It is so wasteful and it makes me angry because I know people will have spent money on them. That’s why I always ask for vouchers to the stores I like (if asked) yet people think this isn’t a “proper” gift. I have no idea why, it’s so frustrating as I see it as wasted money on their part…

Baylis & Harding sets are the WORST! TBH I never buy gift sets as most of them are rit.

So sorry to read this. That is an appalling way to be treated by family. I honestly think they need a taste of their own medicine: if the kids are old enough to know better then I would suggest next year they get a card but nothing else. If they ask why just tell them you’re using the money to treat yourself for a change given they seem incapable of buying you a present.

No bad gifts this year - but I do have one that amused me. My Mum gave me and my sister a set of matching tiles (the sort you use to play memory games) by an artist Mum likes. My sister and I don't live with each other, so the set will stay at our mothers place. So basically she gave herself a gift
This is not unprecedented, when I was a child the family often got gifts from Santa that were basically just things Mum wanted for the house

Poor behaviour from your partner. How old are the kids? I would tell your partner how you really feel.What would happen if you didn't get them anything?

Can you buy pick out something for yourself ?

An excellent question! It’s a mystery. The sentiment was kind and I’m happy to just play together as a family when visiting.

Day 2 of present opening with other family

one has given me a big gift bag of smelly stuff including cheap bath bombs glittery nail Varnish nail files etc
Feel like it’s a present for a 12 year old not a woman mid 30s

I'd take it as a compliment. We always buy my sister some wash stuff as a hint she needs to wash more several others do the same

Not bad present as such just a bit confused. My mum is normally over the top at Christmas and usually get good gifts but this year I got an eco beauty gift set. I mean I love skincare and beauty but this is not my mums usual form.

The food bank is getting a ton of chocolates from me, I didnt see anyone on Christmas but a few friends/family ordered stuff to come to my house and one of them got me so much chocolate/biscuits/snacks two selection boxes, a family circle box, five big share bags of sweets, celebrations, even crisps in it, I know its nice thought but oh my god its too much she trying to make me large

My baby was given a gorgeous The Snowman outfit it’s super cute however by the time it fits her it’ll be May/June
