I find this new trend for shops allowing dogs inside absolutely bonkers! And that’s coming from a vet nurse. Not everyone likes dogs and they should be able to shop in peace without being scared. It’s just giving in to the kind of people who haven’t trained their dogs to be happy alone for a few hours.
i agree. I went to a shopping outlet last weekend and there were dogs in every shop & dogs barking outside the shops at other dogs. It puts me on edge and some children are petrified.

if I go to a park or a beach, I expect to see dogs, but I don’t expect to see loads of them in the shops! Like you say, leave them at home.

I think if the dog is small and being carried I don’t really have an issue with it but a dog on a lead unless an assistance dog, no that needs to stay outside.

I don’t like it as sometimes the shop is really small and there’s multiple dogs, not only does it put me on edge but I have a sneezing attack which makes other people give me glares and back away from me like I’m diseased!

One woman was even like “I’ll avoid you, I don’t want to catch anything before Christmas!”. It was all the bloody dogs in the shop I’d just been to!

Maybe I’ll buy a croc and when it starts snapping at people’s feet I’ll go “oh, he’s just being friendly” 😜

I find the dogs everywhere thing a bit weird. I don't dislike dogs, but I don't think they need to be in shops and restaurants (other than service dogs).

Just before Christmas I did a charity walk with some friends and we decided we would combine it with a Sunday lunch at a fairly upmarket restaurant in the town where we were doing the walk. One of the girls decided to bring her dog on the walk and therefore on the lunch with us. The restaurant were OK with it but I just found it weird. When I'm paying that much for lunch I don't really want a dog sniffing at my crotch from under the table or everyone passing down their left overs to feed the dog! Plus the dog owner had to keep getting up to take him outside for a drink! He was pretty well behaved (probably more so than the kids that were in there) but I didn't really see the point of him being there. I'm just thankful the restaurant let is eat indoors with him!

I am a HUGE dog lover but I completely agree that (unless a service animal) they don't belong in shops. Restaurants/cafes can have dog friendly areas / outsides spaces, but overall it's unnecessary, unhygienic, and potentially dangerous to have animals in these spaces.

Admittedly, I think kids are also unnecessary, unhygienic, and potentially dangerous in many public spaces 😂

Some stores here allow dogs and I take mine to them. He is well trained though, in fact most of the dogs I see in stores are very well behaved. Better than the kids may I add 😉. Because it can get down to -40 here in winter, it is actually a blessing that some stores allow dogs in... It's a way for them to get stimulation and "exercise" in really frigid weather.

I have been in a country cafe in the wilds of Yorkshire and seen an owner tie up his dog outside and come into the cafe for a meal.
It was absolutely freezing and the poor dog was staring in at us all like a kid looking through a window at a party. I felt so bad it put me off my meal.
I'm nervous around dogs unless they're well behaved.
I would definitely have let that dog in. Can't understand how the owner could have done that to his dog.

Layers, lots of layers. Well insulated houses and driving everywhere 😄. I am lucky to live in a dry climate and not a humid so even that temp is bearable if dressed correctly. It doesn't go through to the bones the same way humid cold does. I always tell my British family that I would pick a dry climate, sunny -20 day here over a damp, cloudy 0* day in the uk.

Those of you that don't like dogs in shops/cafes, (which I totally get), don't ever come to Central Lake District (Keswick/Windermere area)

I actually went last March and yes there were dogs everywhere! It’s not really that I don’t like it, more that I’m scared of them (doesn’t matter if they’re well behaved) and they make me feel on edge.
I actually avoid my in laws at all costs since they’ve got a dog 😂

A Rottweiler tried to attack me when I was 7 so that’s where it comes from.

Some spaces should just stay dog free or kid free in my opinion!😂

Like my friend. She cant come to the pub for literally a couple of hours because she can’t leave her dog alone. Everything has to be dog friendly pubs and restaurants. Fair enough, if you like dogs. I’m a cat owner, and I don’t want to spend all evening with a dog clambering over me getting my clothes covered in dog hair and smell, especially when I’m trying to eat. I love dogs, well behaved dogs, but a lot of these “lockdown dogs” haven’t been socialised or trained properly

I love dogs but I also don't want them in every space. Not every dog is well trained and much like parents, some dog owners think their mongrels can do no wrong 🙄 There are people who are allergic, people who are afraid, kids who may not know how to approach an animal, etc etc. It's really annoying when Inhave to navigate a massive lab or a pitbull in a tiny cafe or a pub. If you want to sit inside, find a place to leave your dogs, ugh. Sick of kids in adult places, sick of untrained dogs in human only places. It's not an insult on you if people want to work or eat or shop in peace.

same 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

i love dogs! but i’m not a fan of people demanding that a space should immediately accommodate them and pamper their needs - and that goes for dogs, cats, children, parrots, goats, whatever tiny creature a person might want to take into a cafe or a resultant. other people have the right to sit and have a coffee, do some work, eat a nice meal in peace.

(this doesn’t go for outdoor seating or areas that are adapted for and suitable for said tiny creatures though. dogs in beer gardens make me happy)

For me a lot of it comes down to the training/parenting.

If a dog owner has trained their dog and sit under the table and I don't hear from it, fantastic you are welcome. If however they let the dog wander over to other tables, it whines, it begs for food etc. Then get out.

Likewise well behaved children who can sit quietly and not need an ipad on full blast are welcome. Others, get out.

I’ve just had small children running around just outside my room in my office, what on earth… didn’t know I worked in a nursery 🤣

I can't go in a local pub without hearing a bark or growl when I walk in. As it's heaving I've no idea where the dog is. It's probably scared cos there are so many people and it's a bit dark in there. Have often seen dogs being dragged out of pubs cos they didn't want to leave!!! Literally dragged bodily along the carpet. 😄😂

The entitled mumsies* are at it again. God forbid lickle Ayva-Maiiiii-Pryncess walks more than three steps per day!

*Because we all know that Silly Hubbies can’t do the school run. They’ll accidentally go to the wrong school or get the wrong child, the silly sausages!

Ok apparently we can’t link to the MEN. It was a story about primary school parents parking across people’s driveways and turning up at 2pm to get a parking spot because they have nothing else to do all day but wait for their children.

i used to live near a primary school and it was a NIGHTMARE. no one is a more inconsiderate driver that a mummy who can’t possibly allow little archie or millie walk an extra ten steps from school. parking over driveways, on double yellows, blocking access roads. there was a care home the other side of the road and i have no clue what would have happened if an ambulance needed to get through. my neighbour used to frequently phone our council to ask for traffic wardens to patrol, which was something i can only support tbh.

yet again the world does not revolve around you/your child’s needs. other people need to use their cars safely and might actually want to leave their homes. drove me crazy.
