My (soon to be) ex-MIL was like this - didn't give a tit about what me or her son had going on but could sit and talk for actual hours about her 2 grandsons. I don't think people like that realise that a) we don't care and b) shock horror but child-free people have lives too. Granted it doesn't involve raising the next Ronaldo or Einstein but hey hoI am drifting further away from my parents due to them having nothing else to talk about except my sisters 2 children, it's honestly getting to the point I don't want to spend time with them as they don't even bother asking about my job or interests its all about my niece and nephew which is SO boring for me (my sister and her family also live in a different country) anyone else in a similar position??
I swear parents just buy those to carry them around. Is it just me or are there loads of small children these days allowed to cause chaos on scooters or trikes/bikes (usually scooters with three wheels)? I’m talking about young children that should really be holding their parents hands or walking nicely.
Waking to and from the station I often have to avoid small children scooting way ahead of their parents. I’ve even seen young children riding scooters in busy (major!) train stations! Why do parents let them do this?
And then you often see the parents walking back home dragging the scooter with them after dropping their sprogglet at school. The whole thing seems a faff for everyone.
I had the same with PCOS - a (male) GP told me he would only offer treatment for it if I was struggling to conceive. It annoyed me a lot as it’s not a condition that ‘only’ affects fertility and it felt like all of the other symptoms I was having were irrelevant and my overall health and well-being were only valuable if I was going to breed. I can’t imagine a man going to the GP, being diagnosed with some metabolic condition that affected his whole body, and then him being told that he could only have treatment if he wanted kids. It just wouldn’t happen.I take medication for hypothyroidism. Its a lot better now than my symptoms at their worst but never have got back to how I felt before. Doctor had admitted my numbers on blood tests are not ideal but isnt concerned enough about the symptoms I have to change the medication dose(his fear is it could go the opposite direction). Every single time though, he goes into a huge discussion on if/when I decide to get pregnant we will get a much more in depth review done. I understand that medically perhaps there is a stronger need for the thyroid to be more tightly under control in pregnant ladies but it also feels just a bit like my current concerns are non existent unless I want to conceive.
Not my parents but my MIL is exactly like this. She talks about her grandkids non stop. Mundane tit like what each of them like and dislike food-wise. It's so boring and I don't understand how she can't hear herself.I am drifting further away from my parents due to them having nothing else to talk about except my sisters 2 children, it's honestly getting to the point I don't want to spend time with them as they don't even bother asking about my job or interests its all about my niece and nephew which is SO boring for me (my sister and her family also live in a different country) anyone else in a similar position??
A male GP told me that periods ‘don’t hurt that much’ and to basically get on with it. You must be from near me! Must have been a nightmare. There was a big Airshow on in my area at the weekend and a lot of people from work were going, including me, but I'm the only one without kids. They spent on average about £70 on ice creams, souvenirs and fairground rides on top of the entrance fee... As we had no kids we spent nothing! The traffic was horrendous as well, it took us 4 hours to do a 15 minute journey. I can't imagine what it was like for people with kids! We managed to enjoy the day despite the drama, but I think I'd have lost the plot if kids had been involved too!
People whining at me at work that they have nothing nice and question why I have a nice car, go on holiday treat myself to thing even down to buying lunch and not having leftovers or a soggy sandwhich. There was a big Airshow on in my area at the weekend and a lot of people from work were going, including me, but I'm the only one without kids.
