While we have a truly unreal death rate and failing after failing after failing by our government, it is just too much to have this sentimental tripe pushed down our throats. Not to be conspiracy theorist about it but it does seem to be one big convenient distraction doesn't it?
I am actually aghast at how much of the UK population has acted throughout this whole pandemic. I am from the UK but now overseas, I always thought the British were sticklers for the rules but during the pandemic it has been apparent they have not. My mum went on about how hard this last year has been (which I am sure it has) but she has seen friends for lunches, gone to pubs, gone to hotels, lived pretty normally apart from a few weeks in a stronger lockdown, etc. Meanwhile, my husband and I have really hunkered down...literally not socialised since last spring, not eating out at all since last March (takeout only), not been at a pub since last march, not been to a hotel since last January... Now, of course, that was our choice but it is because we want to be really careful. Some people just seem to think they have done "sooo" much when in fact they have done the bare minimum.

It's been depressing to watch tbh. I do think the UK has drastically changed from the stereotype. Maybe we used to be known for manners and sticking to rules but I feel now that individualism and 'freedom' is what is emphasised and deemed more important. As for the privileged, well they just do what they like. Always have, always will. All I can say is that this situation has truly shown our national character and boy, have we ever come up short.
This is why I can't get on board with this outpouring of grief. Of course it's sad. But I didn't know him. Neither did most of us. It doesn't affect us. There's enough sadness in the world, and it feels like so many people are actively seeking out things to get upset over.

i got some defensive response to a comment i made ..the poster was calling out influencers & people who'd rushed to beat the ban to get away on holiday and that covid is real and they are all hypocrites ..i replied that sadly it looks like he may have possibly caught it on his holiday and sad it was he'd passed away from it...Same here

I got jumped on because someone said it was truly unfair and someone said well he was 100, and I replied saying whilst it’s an unfair ending for him. 100 is a remarkable age and he lived a remarkable life
