A relative of mine has this too, and they work for the NHS
I have respect for him as a war veteran (as much as any other war veteran I might add) who has served our country and I commend his efforts, but I won’t be clapping, I won’t be pausing. I know he’d not want all the faff. He seemed like a down to earth bloke. His family will push the narrative though and that makes me want to dig my heels in more.
Funny that Piers never mentioned his Xmas trip to Antigua on air. Maybe it didn't fit the narrative?

This has happened to me. One of my closest friends and I message each other throughout the day with various things - we're both news junkies and like a good debate. I messaged about Barbados and said the daughter seemed shifty and - radio silence. All very out of character. And she's posted news of his death but never commented on what I said which is really odd. I'm just shocked at people's reactions. Am I the weirdo here?!?

Unfortunately the general population in the UK think being kind is posting a rainbow on Facebook and that is our answer to a pandemic. Being kind is actually staying away from each other and not traveling to Barbados. The UK population seems entitled and immune from the virus.
There is a cult like status for captain Tom, it's weird and like the nation has been brainwashed. No one is thinking independently and actually stepping back an observing how ridiculous it is.
We've truly landed in the twilight zone. It's like a dark episode of Black mirror.

Yep I had to almost carry my grandad to the garden for sunshine on his face but was worth it. And now I'm glad I went to see him before he was taken to hospital as I followed every rule with my Nan and she's now not here and I'll never see her again!duck sake. I don't understand why people are sad tbh.
I understand he's a war veteran but so are/were many other people affected by this.
I understand he raised a ton of money but so did many other people, even if they were inspired by him.
It just feels a bit like one of those 'trendy' things where you're meant to feel sad but it's all for appearances

My Nan who is 81, dare not even go around the corner it’s no more than a 2 minute walk to the butchers because she’s so frightened. She’s worried about COVID, worried about being dobbed in for going out, worried in general about the public and the idea of her going out.
between me and mum she has a Tesco order, milk and more & a local company drop a fruit and veg box. Tesco round here are struggling. If she goes without it is on our head be it! Quite simply!
she will not ask for help, she’s far too independent but deep down, she’s struggling and we know it hence why we try to help her out as much as possible.
compare that to a man, who 12 months ago was just the same as you and me. But within months of recognition for helping the NHS (fair enough) hun and his family somewhat get away with bending the rules.
Bending the rules? Yes, quite simply not staying home. Not staying in the same country or district, oh no, no. Going to a foreign country, risking his health, but overall giving us all the big two fingers.
If I was to consider booking a train from where I live to somewhere else, within a 30 mile radius I would be classed as SELFISH & it would be called UNNECESSARY

Honestly the British public just confuses me because there seems to be so many double standards (if you can even call them that)
Uni students were blamed for moving to uni when it started despite the fact that they didn't have a whole lot of choice in most cases. People traveling outside local areas to exercise was also fine for some reason, travelling in general just seems to be 'oh okay whatever'.
Only recently have I seen people actually criticised for travelling to other countries at a bigger scale, but clearly some travel is perfectly fine.
There's really no one rule for all, it's basically different rules for different people in different circumstances.
Its wrong that people are trying to justify him going on holiday by claiming that as he is 100 and wouldn't have long left to live. I think its also wrong to be going to the Caribbean right now during the pandemic.My dads side of the family come from the Caribbean and i know first hand what these islands are like. What the islands are actually like for locals is a lot different to what most tourists see in the resorts they stay at. The islands struggle to provide decent health care for the locals let alone be able to deal with a potiental influx of tourists bring covid to the islands and getting ill. I think anyone who goes there right now is a shelfish wick and is putting the locals in danger.
