So a local resident will be blasting “You’ll Never Walk Alone” at 7pm on Thursday from speakers in his front yard. bleeping great. It’s going to take every fibre of what little sanity I have to resist smashing his bleeping speakers up.

I must tell my OH to look the hammers away😫

Also knighthoods are dished out way too readily these days. It was very impressive that he raised so much money, but a knighthood, really?
There’s been calls for Katie Price to get one as she’s an amazing mother🤣

I’ve said before that I have the utmost respect for Captain Tom as a war veteran and his charity walk. However all this hysteria now surrounding his death reminds me of when Diana died. Looking back to that time I’m embarrassed at how hysterical the vast majority of the country behaved and if you didn’t join in you were deemed callous and cold. Now we have social media which makes it worse.

The perfect storm for a national outpouring of grief. Loss of freedoms, loss of human contact, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs and life as we knew it! All harnessed, focused and released on this ONE death. As said the perfect distraction for the Governments gross negligence of this pandemic! 😡

Steve Allen on lbc is saying that nasty vicious people are spreading spiteful rumours that the vaccine might have saved him. Steve bats these away saying it was pneumonia not covid and then rants about special courts are needed for trolls, from the guy who calls Gemma Collins large and weird every day on national radio.

🙄

I just can't with this nonsense

Indeed. I’ve had to switch off the news.

Michael Ball said the same on the one show last night that she had contacted him too.
I find this particularly bizarre. He’s been in the public eye for 9 months. This shows that she’s not besties with these celebs. Wonder why she felt the need to contact these people?

It's uncomfortable they're saying his life was worth so much because he raised so much. Why do people need to attach a monetary value to everything?

Countless people have done similar fundraising things but they didn't attract huge media attention.

People keep saying he did it on his own which doesn't quite stack up as the money was from members of the public who were spurred on by the media.

I didn’t realise there was a thread before and I’ve spent all this time thinking I was the only one who thought something wasn’t right about all this! I too have a bad feeling about his daughter and I think she really let him down taking him to Barbados - I appreciate it was a free trip of a lifetime and that he had all his faculties but I would be doing everything I could to stop a loved one fly across the world right now, not join him.

Im sorry he has passed and I hope he rests in peace, but so many people of all ages have passed in the last year and I would say a high percentage of those did not have their family called in by the hospital and sadly died alone. That will be the hardest legacy of all this for a lot of families. I think they were worried what the daughter would say in a “statement” if they didn’t allow the family in.

I’m giving GMB a wide berth today as Piers Morgan (what a coup that was getting Sir Tom on Life Stories...) went on a massive rant yesterday about Twitter trolls who questioned why he had gone to Barbados, saying they were perfectly entitled to go because it didn’t break any Government rules...imagine if it was Megan Markle or The Beckhams who had gone, we would never have heard the end of it

Attention and publicity I would say - edit to say, apparently Sir Tom and Michael Ball recorded a song together - I managed to miss that too - so I suppose Piers Morgan and Michael may have been his friends. Mrs Skeptismo here is still wondering if she called all his friends or just the high profile ones...

the last thing I think of when someone dies is ringing piers Morgan

Have a look at the ‘Clap for Sir Captain Tom’ group on Facebook with 54k members if you need any more cheesy images, poems, calls for bank holidays and the Royal Mint sticking him on a coin and some fabulous amateur art work..
have you seen the tiktok of this little girl and her mum with the song he wrote? Stick me on a vent I’m done

It’s so interesting to see that the ones who lead “cancelled culture” are in fact the media, not anonymous “trolls”

if they decided someone is wrong, they’re wrong,
If they decide someone is right, they’re right, and critism is invalid and labeled as “hate”

the problem isn’t just social media its bias media as well

Watching Matt Hancock speaking about Sir Tom saying he was sending the message about staying at home. Really, does he not realise the hypocrisy of what he has just said. I think Sir Tom did amazingly well for someone his age and I was urging him on but his family should hold their heads in shame at the way they used him for the publicity. Rip Sir Tom.

I’ve seen this!
Is this how we now pay our respects? Have we moved from a minutes silence to blasting out music and banging saucepans?

The public and media outpouring is uncomfortable. If anything when reporting about Captain Tom it should be mentioned how important the stay at home message is and not to go on unnecessary travel.

While he may not of had many years left he ended up dying of pneumonia and covid and unable to get the vaccine he was entitled to.

I hope they enjoyed their holiday and it was worth it all
