As someone who has gone through cancer, Lizzies story scares me so much. I see myself in her.

Lizzie update. She has her scan results. She's going to have 1 day radiotherapy in her groin area for the cancer in the bones, but not in her back as the pain there is tolerable and that would mean 5 day treatment.

She's also received an invite from the Marsden to discuss trials. Fingers crossed they have something for her!

The hope and excitement she has for the royal Marsden letter has broken my heart
Hope can be a really dangerous thing sometimes...
When you get a sliver of something dangled infront of you and it gives you hope
And then it turns out to be nothing
It's crushing
I know positive ..I'm being all doom and gloom
But all the specialists have said it's very unlikely Marsden can offer her anything
she will be so beyond crushed if that's the case

It must be hard to not want to put all of your hope into it, when it's frankly you're last hope.

I've just realised Lizzie is a year younger than me. Can't imagine how she feels.

Hopefully though, whatever happens with the Marsden, there will be some comfort in knowing that she’s explored every possible avenue for treatment and trials. I know it would be devastating situation but if it is worst case scenario maybe meeting with the Marsden and knowing for sure they can’t offer her anything might be a bit easier to reconcile with than wondering what if?

I'm blocked so can't see her updates, but imagine she's very hopeful and excited, but with that "what if?" feeling. It's not you being doom and gloom, I thought she was told there's no chance of any trials due to her heart condition, so why are they referring her? If they're just doing this to cover their own backs due to the rubbish treatment she's received, kinda like passing the buck as they can't do anything else, then it's beyond awful and will give her crushing false hope. When is she going to there and when will she know whether she can go on a trial?

If they are meeting her they aren't doing it be cruel. Maybe her oncologist was wrong, maybe they just want to explain things in more detail.

There is nothing wrong with hope when the only other option is death. It's not like it's some weird Brazilian scam offering healing through prayer and charging a fortune in return.

Trials are extremely hard to get accepted in and if her heart has been affected by the treatment a lot of it is a No if her hospital has exhausted all avenues then that will play a factor in the decision too.

She said she knows it will probably come to nothing and she's trying not to get her hopes up but when there's literally nothing left for her, she has to try cling on to every tiny bit of hope there is for her sanity

Oh I get that I've been in her position. But disappointment can play a massive factor in your positivity when trying to hold onto hope

The scan showed that her bones are blimming pickled with cancer. It’s shocking to see. She’s younger than any of my kids. Fucking cancer.

It's wild seeing that x-ray and then looking at Lizzie, because she seems so well. It's certainly a reminder that you never know what someone might be going through, even if they look perfectly fit and healthy. I've said before that Lizzie reminds me a lot of Emily Hayward because it was the same sort of situation. Emily's cancer was in her brain and organs (I know Lizzie's isn't), but she looked well and was living a pretty normal life almost to the very end. Emily was also a patient at the Royal Marsden – I really hope they will have some option for Lizzie. It would be awful for her to get her hopes up and then be told by another hospital that there's nothing they can do.
