It’s because cancer is just a catch-all term for your cells going wrong. They’re separate diseases, really. Brain Cancer has nothing in common with blood cancer which has nothing in common with pancreatic etc. Breast cancer survival rates have sky rocketed becuse there’s been so much money poured into it. In the 90s, leukaemia made similar leaps and bounds. The trouble is (a) some cancers just don’t get the same levels of funding (b) somethings are just fucking complicated - e.g. we don’t fully understand the brain when it works well, so brain tumours are very hard to do much with and (c) some cancers are just so aggressive that the time span to do anything with them (if you could) is too short.

There’s no conspiracy, it’s just the random nature of the world. That’s not to stop it bloody awful and unfair on a person level.

Anyone else so relieved Lizzie had a great trip with her family and got away without having travel insurance? So hope this treatment line does something for her

Do you know, I'd be fucking LIVID if someone recorded me without my consent whilst in hospital getting treatment for cancer. WTAF?!!! It's completely irrelevant that we don't know the people or can't distinguish what they're saying. It's a total breach of privacy at a time when someone is quite possibly going through the worst experience of their life. Get in the bin you utter twat.

I think Lizzi is quite real. Here dreams are normal, not like NickNack. She prioritizes time with her family and giving them a normal life. She complains about her treatment but doesn't use her profile to be treated any differently to anyone else. She rarely complains about her pain. What's not to like?

Absolutely don’t blame Lizzie for getting another dog. I know personally how awful it is when you’re used to the presence of a dog in the home and they pass away. Such a happy distraction as well from all of the crap she’s going through with treatment.

Thank you for posting that update, although it was a tough read..... I feel sick that she literally hasn't any other options - how IS that possible in 2024? 😓 💔 I wish I could give her a massive hug..... ❤
I really hope I cause noone offence with this reply
I say this as someone who is deal with mutiple chronic illnesses...11 different meds a day
Hospitals..specialists ..doctors..

The medical field...even medical professionals are meant to see everyone as someone worth the time, money and effort of helping and saving..

But ....that's not how it is
It's not how it is for people who can't be cured or cured easily..

I'm a woman and I have been treated like an absolute waste of time
Drs don't want me as a patient because it's too hard to manage all my issues..
They just want the easily managed..in and out cases

I've had to fight so hard to be heard and respected and there are times I've cried and cried because it feels like my life as a human being...as a mother..a daughter ..a sister.. a friend..isn't worth much because I'm sick..

And in the eyes of the decision makers
Who hold the government's purse strings..
Who are you going to give your money to?
Those who can be cured and can then go on and work and pay taxes
Or those who cannot be cured and will never recover
And who cannot work..

People who are ill are still in 2024 viewed as less than
And a waste of time, energy and resources.
We aren't all equal
We should be
But we aren't.
Until that changes
Patients who are terminally or chronically ill
Will continue to fight to be listened to..to be respected ..to be valued..
For more treatments..

Sadly...I don't see that happening anytime soon
As what rules is the all mighty dollar and budgets

I can totally see why Lizzi has got a new puppy and whilst I’m very much part of the adopt don’t shop brigade I understand completely that she wanted a puppy of a specific breed that she knows and loves. Cockers are amazing with young children and Lizzi seems a responsible owner. I’m delighted for her - in shit storm that is her life, she has to take the joy where she can.

I really feel for Lizzie in her latest stories 😢 However the sad reality is the NHS cannot fund everything. I’m sure each individual patient wants their own drug funded but it isn’t a bottomless money pit. Not sure what the answer is really but it’s an awful situation.
It shouldnt be a postcode lottery either though and it shouldnt be about funding one drug but not another based on how many you’ve already tried. Thats where the frustration is coming from. One person in one town gets offered 10 treatments, one in person in the next town gets offered 2 - its the disparity between the situations

Conversely, my dad had terminal cancer and they gave him a choice for his last set of chemo (of the “you’re well, why don’t you enjoy the time you have?”) and he and my mum had a very much ‘yes of course we’ll take it‘ mindset and I tried to suggest that it might not be worth putting him through it.

It was his choice but I do think he went through with it for my mum and ultimately he died quite an awful, drawn out death, not from the cancer but from an infection that took over his chemo-weakened body.

Chemo isn’t the answer to everything and at some point you have to weigh quality over quantity. I wouldn’t blame anyone who wants to try and extend their life but doctors have to think about the ‘do no harm’ part of their vow.

I hope Lizzie finds what she’s looking for and it all works out, I really do. I also hope whatever happens, she makes her peace with it all. My dad never did and I often think just how pissed off he would be to be dead.

My husband found himself in this situation at the start of last year. Out of treatment options and damage to his heart. The NHS couldn't fund any further treatments. Due to him being in his early 30s with pretty good performance status the very best option was turning to medical trials. Sadly and very unexpectedly he died with a heart problem while waiting to hear about the trial he had applied for.
I feel very sorry for Liz because she is youngish with young children and will have a good performance score/performance status, but sadly NHS have very strict rules around how much treatment can be offered. Lizzie isn't alone, thousands of others have found themselves in the same situation, are in the same situation or will find themselves in the same situation.
Lizzie's best hope is getting a referral to the Marsden or the Christie and searching all UK trial databases.

As a cancer patient this thread is too triggering for me but I just have to tell people who will "get" it. Lizzi Ellis is fucking amazing. She's just bloody amazing. She really moved me there with her campaign for people to sign the petition for life extending treatment on the NHS. 🩷💔

Does anybody follow Katiesnotgivingup ? Her story is horrific . She's been told they won't do any more surgery on her face chemo won't do anything and she is being sent home to starve to death . She has a 3 year old little girl . It's absolutely heartbreaking 💔
I’ve just had a look at her Instagram and I actually can’t believe it. Being sent home to die after being told there’s nothing we can do / you’ll likely starve to death is disgusting - I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, we wouldn’t let an animal suffer in this way. End of life can be great for some but seriously needs sorting out for so many, it’s 2024 why are people still having to die like this??

It blows my mind that someone like Lizzie who is actually pretty well in herself i,e isn’t in and out of hospital like bowel babe / NNL constantly, seems to live a fairly ‘normal’ life, can just hit the end of the road like this and then that’s it? She seems like she’s so strong physically still I just can’t get my head around it. So shitty

Sad news that robs_final_dance passed away today, I’ll miss his posts. He was one of those people who always seemed to be there whenever I opened Instagram. His poor parents did a good job of posting lots of updates as he wanted them to.
