Thanks for sharing that, and I do agree tbf!! I was quite uncomfortable when she opened the PO box recently and Dilly was receiving hundreds of gifts to his room in GOSH. They obviously don't need that.

Basically because the NHS is badly run, inefficient, understaffed and almost nothing works as it should. People suffer terribly and yet everyone crows “oh but I’m not criticising our lovely NHS”.

We’re supposed to be grateful that it’s free.
But it's not free is it? Yes we don't get billed but we (,the working people) pay for it.

As a cancer patient this thread is too triggering for me but I just have to tell people who will "get" it. Lizzi Ellis is bleeping amazing. She's just bloody amazing. She really moved me there with her campaign for people to sign the petition for life extending treatment on the NHS. 🩷💔

Has there been any new updates? I feel for her and wish I could message saying she's got so much support in here and that we are all thinking of her. 💔

No new updates, close to 120,000 signatures now though!! She's still on a working treatment line at the moment but she has to be thinking she could be one of the many women who are being needlessly denied this medication at some point 💔 she really is a very good campaigning for breast cancer while still being very real about it all 🩷

Does anybody follow Katiesnotgivingup ? Her story is horrific . She's been told they won't do any more surgery on her face chemo won't do anything and she is being sent home to starve to death . She has a 3 year old little girl . It's absolutely heartbreaking 💔

Yes I do. It's heartbreaking how she's been treated, she was meant to go to turkey to have the surgery done but her surgeon here said they would then said they wouldn't! She's even moving in with her mum so her daughter doesn't have to see the cancer take over her face x

I’ve just had a look at her Instagram and I actually can’t believe it. Being sent home to die after being told there’s nothing we can do / you’ll likely starve to death is disgusting - I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, we wouldn’t let an animal suffer in this way. End of life can be great for some but seriously needs sorting out for so many, it’s 2024 why are people still having to die like this??

I think this is the most heartbreaking case I have seen 💔

That sounds so heartbreaking. I’ve never even heard of that type of cancer & to be let down & just told there’s nothing they can do. So devestating for her & her family.

I never knew there could be a cancer like hers. How can they send her home to die like that? Surely she can have an NG tube and be tube fed?

You would think surely there must be a way of fitting an NG tube . What an horrific way to die 😢

Unlikely shed be able to have an NG June inserted due to previous surgery and radiotherapy, however she would be able to have a PEG tube or RIG inserted , but it's finding someone who would be able to fit it as it would take a specialist with extensive experience to do this
.
it seems likes it's an extremely fast growing tumour , so fear her options are very limited

She's on Instagram as katienotgivingup there's a lot of hair pictures but her cancer journey starts when the hair pic stops. There's a few grid posts with her story on x

Sounds like she has an aggressive cancer that has relapsed after chemo/ radiotherapy and surgery. A desperate situation but I don’t buy that the medical team are leaving her to starve to death. If, as and when the cancer affects her ability to swallow, they would consider inserting a feeding tube placed through the stomach.

With head and neck cancers feeding tubes are usually inserted after initial surgeries in anticipation of the effects of radiotherapy.

Yes or when a pt with advancing cancer is struggling to eat due to growth of the cancer. A feeding tube put in ahead of radiotherapy would usually be removed once the patient has recovered from the side effects and is able to manage normal food again (small proportion of pts need long term feeding tubes following head and neck cancer treatment).
