I had a long train journey yesterday and flew through The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. I really just didn't enjoy it at all, and if it wasn't for being stuck on a train with poor phone signal and nothing else to do I would probably have put it down and not picked it back up again. I was really disappointed as I quite enjoyed her other books, albeit that they were a bit predictable. Really felt the story was a bit confusing and poorly structured, lacked any sense of anticipation or emotional investment. I think others have talked about it on the thread already but wondered if anyone had actually read it and enjoyed it?

Overrated author.
Her books are always hyped up but they’re not worthy of the recognition they get.

It's out in paperback in September so will probably be cheaper then hopefully. Not sure if you use Kindle at all but maybe one to add to your wish list if you do and hope that it comes down in price/you get an offer for it?

I read The Guest List and The Hunting Party and they were basically exactly the same book. One was good. But I didn't need to read the second.

I agree they were very similar stories. I didn’t mind them though. Didn’t like The Paris Apartment much at all, it was all over the place and lacked tension I thought.

I’m so over publishing houses pushing books that don’t deserve the attention, it’s usually an influencer of some description or

Started NOS4A2 by Joe Hill and cannot put it down! Mammoth book at nearly 1000 pages but it's grabbed me straight away.

Sorry to say I'm not enjoying Shuggie Bain. I'm finding it very "dense" (I can't think of a better word) and wordy, and I'm struggling to keep up with who's who. I've put it to one side, and started The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave instead.

I know how this books is gonna go before I finish reading it. The three "acts" every one of these stories has.

And as cliche as it's gonna be, I think I'm gonna love it.

honestly, that sounds lovely, if you haven’t read it already i hugely recommend “if this gets out” - which is another sorta hidden gay romance to falling in love story that i really enjoyed.

and “house in the cerulean sea” of course, if you like your romances with more of a fantasy vibe.

Sorry youre not feeling Shuggie, Chick. Its definitely not for everyone and is heavy reading.

Im trying to finish the book club pick but honestly the author is insufferable and I don't want to read anymore Ive not got much left so I will try to finish it tonight.

Finished Love of my Life last night and it was fking terrible. Even the subject matter in the end was very heavy and the writer didn't treat it correctly imo. Don't even feel bad for giving it 1/5.

Then started an actual paperback normally on the kindle these days. It's called Keep your eyes on Me by Sam Blake. The description is very strangers on a train. But again so far very disappointed with the story so far. Feel a slump coming on because I've read a few "bad" books recently

In some ways its better but I feel more in my heart for Shuggie than Mungo.

Greenwich Park is also £1 and I'd also recommend it, one of the better thrillers I read last year.

Lenni and Margot is a lovely warm book, ideal for reading after A Bit of a Stretch.

I've gone onto Our Fathers by Rebecca Wait, less warm but so far it is beautifully written and evocative.
