I’ve been listening to The Nothing Man but have just returned it (library app) about 30% in. The narrators aren’t great and I think that’s affecting my view of the story.

I’ve managed to reserve it as an ebook for a couple of weeks time as I want to give it another go.

Anyone else read it?

I read it and really enjoyed it. Its a clever story and some bits were very disturbing

Just started reading Red, White and Royal Blue based on recommendations. Has anyone read it and what do you think?

Personally I felt like it was very close to fanfiction (which isn't always a bad thing- I read fanfiction! I just wasn't expecting it from a published novel) and weirdly paced (which makes sense when you read the acknowledgements at the end and they admit it was double the length). I was also mis-sold it through youtubers/tiktokers calling it "enemies to lovers" which I completely disagree with.

I also have a lot of issues with the way colonialism was criticised but only through a British lens (from a prince??? The way royalty was depicted... It was very clearly written by an American), the weird stereotypical British representation (Henry was literally sitting in bed watching Bake Off and eating Jammie Dodgers at one point), the forced outing (which no one told me about and as a queer person, I find super triggering) and never looking in on the negative aspects of American history/culture.

I'd give it 3/5 stars. Story was sweet if you look past all the other stuff I didn't like. Wouldn't rush to re-read it.

I loved The Great Alone. I don’t think I’ve read a Kristin Hannah book I didn’t enjoy.

Hi everyone, where on Tattle are we allowed to make book requests? There are two books that I'd like to get digital copies of, but none of the mainstream ebook sites have them. Is there anyone that takes on these requests in the first place?

i absolutely loved the nightingale by Kristin so hope this is as good

I really enjoyed The Great Alone but remember it being quite bleak and a difficult read in places. I haven't read Betty but it doesnt look like an easy read either though

yeh they definitely don’t sound like fluffy reads but i do enjoy a bit of angst in a book sometimes

February reads - half of these have been audio books this month.

Stand out books were Reminders of Him (great first book club choice!) I also enjoyed Baby Be Mine and Room.

I wouldn’t recommend Surprise Me (boring) and didn’t see the hype with Normal People. A rare time when I preferred the tv show to the book.

As I posted earlier, The Nothing Man went to the DNF pile BUT this was largely due to the narrators of the audiobook and I’m hoping to actually read this next month.

I have a good few library ebooks that’ll be ready to download in the next couple of weeks so I’m looking forward to March

I loved Room - the film is great too!

What did you think of Saving Noah? I’ve read some of Lucinda Berry’s other books but not that one yet.

It was a difficult read at times, very sad. I’d recommend it but I wouldn’t say it was one that’d stay with me for a while.

Completely different stories obviously, but if I were to compare them to say Shuggie or Room which are also emotional reads, it didn’t quite get me like those did.

Finished The Trawlerman by William Shaw, loved it. I would recommend that series, particularly if you’re a fan of Cormoran Strike.

Just seen the next one in the Ava Turner/DI Callanach series by Helen Fields is out on 3 March so I’ve preordered.

I need something to keep me going until then

i liked betty a lot but it’s a very brutal read. i would read it only when you’re in the mood for something like that as it really doesn’t let up.

Sharing links to free book sites is not allowed as would put tattle on dodgy grounds and quite frankly we have enough to deal with influencers smearing here. I'm sure anyone can find them if they want to.

If everyone didn't pay for books then they wouldn't exist.
