Ugh I really don't like when long detailed books are made into movies. They just end up not making sense.
And not just any series. I’d prefer it was done by Apple TV/whichever production company has made Silo. They’ve turned 3 books into 4 seasons and so far zero wasted episodes.i don’t know how i feel about this either! especially as, to match the vision in my head, they need to cast lando norris as the lead

Am I the only one who completely missed the fact there’s a new Sense and Sensibility film adaptation coming out later this year? Had no idea until I saw lots of people talking about the trailer that’s been released. (Maybe it’s been overshadowed by the dread of what Netflix are going to do to P&P!)
it doesn’t look awful but I don’t think it’s going to be traditional, Regency society Austen. There’s lots of windswept hair and moody lighting. I saw Sara from Fiction Matters describe it as the “Brontë-fication of Jane Austen” which seems like a pretty good description of what the trailer looks like at least.

Trying to keep an open mind as I love Daisy Edgar Jones but watching the trailer I kept asking myself "whyyy is everything so dark?". When did directors decide that we shouldn't be able to see jackshit and called that artistic lighting?!
It really annoys me when they are filmed so dark. and the loose hair, what the heck, updos were what women wore, loose hair meant things.
By contrast, I really loved Autumn de Wilde's Emma because it was bright and colourful.
The darkness and scruffy hair & clothes were what I immediately noticed in the S&S trailer, as well.

same on all counts! half the joy of watching austen adaptations is being able to see the yearning on everyone’s faces!
imo we already have the perfect sense and sensibility adaptation so why do we need another?! when will someone anyone do the persuasion adaptation i deserve
But it's (imo) because it suits Emma's vibes. It's much lighter and "funnier" than Sense & sensibility. It would be a bit weird to have so much brightness for S&S
The "Bronte" vibes could be interesting for Marianne as it's kinda what she wants, no ? The dramatic romantic life only found in books.
My only critic is that nobody can top Aland Rickman as Brandon (who is my main reason to watch S&S)

If anyone wants more broody Alan Rickman in their life I must recommend the film Truly Madly Deeply. He stars opposite Juliet Stevenson (who I think is also an excellent audiobook narrator, by the way! Definitely worth searching for books narrated by her on Audible or Libby).
