i can’t believe they’re making a series of this trauma porn.

JUST HOW TINY IS THE ACTRESS PLAYING SHANNON?! SHOW HER TO ME 🤣
Let them know! Im sure they will recast and put Polly Pocket in instead!

I've been scrolling for advent calendars (blame the Christmas thread 😁), and Providence pushed me on to pictures of bookstores.......
Left me thinking why do I have no pictures of book(stores).🤔.
This particular one brought back memories of a floor creaking, wooden shelved bookshop that I used to frequent, until it shut down and re-emerged elsewhere in clinical form.😲😩😭

The algorithm knows I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo.......
This come up in my feed and the comments describe the part I'm currently reading as life changing. Wow!!!
Thought I'd post it here in case there are some books we don't know about - a lot of suggestions in the comments.
Some are already our favourites.

I knew his daughter acted but not his son.
also while i’m still thinking about boys of tommen the poster here who said they’re basically like the really fraught self insert fan fictions that girls used to write about all of one direction being in love with them was completely on point.

i also honestly think it was borderline irresponsible to market them as tiktok romances given how distressing so many of the themes are and how gratuitous it all is. i wonder how much it will get toned down for a tv series. that scene at the end of binding 13 was needlessly graphic.

I enjoyed the boys of tommen but don’t disagree with the trauma porn aspect of it (and the casting seems very off to me, but that’s neither her or there). I’ve never read anything else Chloe Walsh has done though, I’m curious whether the aspects I liked in BOT will translate into her other books.

It's been a long time since I read Husband Material, but now I'm reading Father Material, maybe like 20% through it. And I forgot how bleeping annoying Lucien can be. But Oliver still continues to be Daddy!

It's like Lucien is one of those characters where a single personality trait is pushed to the extreme, in this case his low self esteem, negative disaster vibe. Like nobody is more of a disaster than he is kind of thing.

Like when a character, usually the female lead in a romance novel, has anxiety to the most insane level and can't even speak because of it, but still obviously falls in love with the male lead - who is obviously the tallest man that there could possibly be in society. And the woman is probably the smallest person ever.

I just don't like these single characteristics being exaggerated to the extreme because it makes the characters too one dimensional.

i literally just reread boyfriend material and YES - lucien is the absolute worst. he doesn’t deserve oliver at all, and he’s so awful to him sometimes. it’s even more annoying because lucien could literally change his own disaster-ness if he just experienced some kind of emotional growth but, no.

alexis hall is a decent writer but I HATE how all their characters are zany stereotypes of people who just wouldn’t/couldn’t exist in the real world. lucien’s whole friendship group and work colleagues in particular just annoy me so much.

It is just everyone is a stereotype and they aren't real characters.

I'm gonna have to go steal a fictional book character for myself as well now. 😂😂😂

I’m almost halfway through Yesteryear and feel a little confused. I don’t quite get what’s going on 😂
Stick with it! I really enjoyed the twist, although it is very far fetched.

Posting my June reads as I'm not going to get another book in by the end of June:

I'm still on with The Count of Monte Cristo - another 450 pages to go.
The hot weather slowed me down. The book is an absolute tome. Bigger than a J K Rowling, and a mega chunky paperback is not easy to hold. Especially if you have to hold it away from your body. Putting it on a cushion/pillow or resting it against your body just makes you combust in the heat.🥵it's left me with pain in my wrists and arms, but I'm so addicted I can't put it down!
Why did I not read it when the weather was cooler!😩
Thank you for listening to my whinge Ted Talk.😁

A good 87% of the characters are just Edmond pretending to be someone else!

Also! I need to stop reading book club books for a while (you know the ones, those that are either celebrity book club picks or popular with our mom's friends). Reading June Baby by Shannon Garvey and good God. I can just see herpulling the strings to make sure heartbreak keeps happening.
